Chapter 23: Carpool
Tyr shook off the tree branch in his hand, wiped the sweat off his forehead, and looked at the massive bear in front of him, relieved that it was now lifeless.
“Oh dear, tonight’s dinner is finally sorted. After wandering in this damn big forest for five days, you’re the first one to come at me like this, brave and fearless. In gratitude for Mr. Bear’s hospitality, I’ll do my best to devour you.”
Tyr casually remarked, then pulled out an extremely sharp tooth from his belt, swiftly cutting off a piece of meat from the bear.
This tooth came from a creature Tyr encountered three days ago, resembling a lion. Its teeth were incredibly sharp, turning both trees and rocks into powder within the creature’s bloodthirsty jaws.
Tyr had to put in a considerable effort to gradually kill the creature, and the tooth that could cut through objects became his trophy. It was this tooth that made his hunting much more convenient in the following days.
The roasted meat had a distinct gamey smell, but the taste was still quite good. What worried Tyr was the possibility of unknowingly hunting a poisonous creature one day, which would be a tearful experience.
“According to the map, the Kingdom of Milik should be just ahead, but with so many side paths here, what was supposed to be a journey of one or two days has trapped me for so many days. I don’t know when I’ll be able to get out! Oh, I really wish I could take a comfortable hot bath like Yuehai on the other side.”
Tyr patted his satisfied belly, lying on a large tree, displaying a slightly discontented expression.
But speaking of bathing, when I saw Yuehai naked back then, for a moment, I really didn’t know where to look. However, it seemed that due to the nature of my own body, the excitement level didn’t reach the point of nosebleeds compared to seeing Leia’s naked body. It was indeed a fortunate misfortune; if I were to have a nosebleed from looking at my own body, that would be downright perverse!
Just as Tyr was indulging in random thoughts and preparing to hide in a tree hollow to sleep, the ground suddenly trembled.
“This is…”
Tyr raised an eyebrow, his ears pressed to the ground, picking up the roars of monsters and the shouts and screams of humans engaged in battle.
“There are people!”
Although he didn’t know what was happening over there, since there were people, he should go check it out. If things got tough, he could always escape back. It’s not that Tyr is boasting, but the Kaming School’s myriad folding technique is indeed incredibly mysterious. Even though Tyr can only perform the most basic fold now, it still allows him to escape from the hands of many unbeatable monsters.
Ever since successfully breaking through to the initial level of the lower rank, “Qi Harmony,” in the martial art of Qi, Tyr felt that his agility had increased many times over. Creatures that he struggled with initially were now easily slain after becoming a warrior. For example, that large bear from earlier, if he had encountered it on the first day, he would have had to run as far away as possible.
In reality, he was unaware of the true gap between non-warriors and monsters. If others were to find out that Tyr defeated monsters solely with martial skills and agility, it would be an astonishing piece of news!
In less than a moment, Tyr stopped in a thicket. He crouched on the ground, looking down, and below the elevated area where Tyr was positioned was a path that had been cleared. The distance between the two was about twenty meters, providing a safe vantage point. However, if everyone were on the same horizontal line, Tyr might have retreated another fifty meters.
On the road below, a fierce battle was unfolding. Dozens of terrifying monsters were besieging a caravan approximately a hundred meters long. Such caravans were mentioned in the Shadowstone before—basically, merchants moved between countries, capitalizing on the price differences between nations. They often took risks to traverse the Sorrowful Burial Forest.
Incidents of caravans being attacked were not uncommon. The scene before Tyr’s eyes was a prime example.
However, this caravan had somewhat wisely hired a mercenary group. Unfortunately, the outcome was not optimistic. Despite having a mercenary group of around twenty people, their strength was mediocre. The disorganized attacks of a dozen or so monsters were enough to prevent them from mounting any substantial counteroffensive.
Tyr shook his head. Dealing with a dozen or so monsters was too troublesome for him, and there wasn’t much benefit to be gained. Gratitude from the merchants? He would rather decline, especially since Yuehai’s aristocratic lifestyle had left Tyr without much concept of coins. After some consideration, Tyr felt it was wiser to go back and get some sleep.
Just as Tyr decided to retreat, a burly man who was clearly the captain among the mercenaries below loudly roared.
“Gad, Little Kebi, Riel, the three of you take the caravan and leave first! We’ll catch up after driving away these monsters!”
The captain’s lie obviously didn’t deceive everyone well, the thin man called Gad answered with a hoarse voice.
“No! We will live or die together with the captain! Weren’t you saying the girls of the Milik Kingdom are charming, and you even promised to take me along for some fun! Captain, how can you break your word like this!”
“Damn it, Gad! Can’t you see that if we old guys don’t hold back the monsters, the caravan will be wiped out as well? Don’t tarnish the glory of the Sand Fox Mercenary Corps! Get out of here!”
“Captain!!” Gad, Little Kebi, Riel, and the others shouted with red eyes, their voices hoarse. They were unwilling to leave like this because this farewell would be eternal!
“Go!”
The captain’s roar abruptly stopped under a pale light, followed by the wail of a monster spraying blood!
When the captain saw the figure descending from the sky, the other party had already moved, still as a mountain when still, swift as lightning when in motion!
Such speed brought a glimmer of hope to the captain who had long been in despair.
Swish! Another wail of a monster and a burst of blood, in front of this figure, the monsters were like decorations, allowing the opponent to slaughter them. The intelligent monsters also understood that the sudden enemy before them was beyond their ability to contend with. The wild instinct made them disperse without hesitation. In an instant, the once bloody battlefield became empty and quiet, with only the figure standing in the pool of monster blood, shaking off the branch in hand…
“Wait, branches!?”
The captain doubted his eyes because the radiant light that effortlessly slew the monsters just now turned out to be a readily available tree branch! Can there be anything more absurd to make him question his eyes!
And just as this thought began to form, the figure in the pool of blood had already spoken.
“Uh, brothers, how about giving this little one a lift?”
