Chapter 41: They’ve All Flown Away
Moluna sat in front of the mayor’s mansion, cradling her cup, delicately sipping from a glass of plain water. She didn’t enjoy conflicts. She preferred days watching the lively Phylin tribe in Wind Bird Town.
The Phylin tribe’s liveliness made the whole town feel vibrant to Moluna. In her past village, she had no right to join such festivities. Her parents were once kind, but their attitude changed drastically when they saw her create water orbs.
Despite not abandoning her, Moluna felt her parents couldn’t return to their old selves. Since then, her parents constantly feared her being a witch.
Confined at home, Moluna lost her cheerful demeanor under the endless isolation. She became numb to the outside world, occasionally watching children play by the window.
Happiness was unfamiliar to her, with no chance to experience it. Despite contemplating suicide, a voice inside always stopped her. This inner conflict made Moluna hesitate every time. Her parents covered the window, cutting off all her contemplation. Her parents surprisingly didn’t care much about the possibility of her suicide.
Moluna didn’t understand why her parents didn’t just kill her if they disliked her so much. Exposed as a witch, she faced the usual fate—capture and execution.
Escaping the stake, she lived evading pursuit, keeping away from crowds. Captured again after a tumultuous life, she vaguely remembered turning into black mud. Swallowed by the mud, the only warm moment was when Ron saved her.
“Where is Lord Ron?” Moluna squinted, placing the cup down and wondering.
Ron went to the village entrance a while ago and hadn’t returned. After helping the Phylin tribe, Ron’s absence puzzled Moluna.
Does it take that long to see off Doran? Moluna couldn’t help but tilt her head, contemplating.
“Why are you sitting here, Miss Moluna?” A few Phylin tribe members carrying stone pillars asked as they passed by.
“Nothing,” Moluna replied, “Just having a drink.”
After saying that, she took another sip. Staying hydrated was essential, and she couldn’t neglect it.
“By the way, do you know where Lord Ron is?” Moluna asked before the Phylin tribe members left.
These Phylin tribe members were running around Wind Bird Town. They should know where Lord Ron is.
Of course, she didn’t have high expectations. She just asked casually. However, these Phylin tribe members indeed gave Moluna an answer, “Oh! Lord Ron, he has flown away with that maid!”
“Don’t call her the maid. She has a name!” another Phylin tribe member reminded.
“Oh right, it’s Miss Lilian!” So, the previous Phylin tribe member corrected himself.
Upon hearing the Phylin tribe’s conversation, Moluna’s face was confused. “Flown away?”
She blinked, looked down at her cup, and even wondered if she might be experiencing auditory hallucinations.
“Really flown away?” After a moment, Moluna asked again.
“Really, Miss Moluna!” The Phylin tribe member answered patiently, “They flew away long ago!”
Moluna couldn’t help but lift her head, staring at the azure sky, with the words “flown away” echoing in her mind.
The fact that Lilian had taken off with Lord Ron without bringing her along felt truly despicable to Moluna. The silver-white giant dragon suddenly snorted in the sky, resembling how a person sneezed. She felt being talked about behind her back, but she didn’t know who would gossip about her.
Could it be other dragons? If so, they must be quite bored.
Phylin tribe? It’s also possible. They never seem to stop talking.
“What’s that sound? Have we arrived?” Ron, suspended from the dragon’s claw, asked.
He heard Lilian’s snorting and thought it might be a sign of reaching their destination. After all, Ron didn’t know that this was the sound of a dragon sneezing.
“Not yet. We have to wait until after we pass through the portal,” Lilian said, “That sound was the flapping of wings.”
The place where Lady Mercury was located was quite far from the Wind Veil Basin. It wasn’t a short flight to reach there.
“Don’t rush me, I want to reach the destination even more than you do.” On the dragon’s back, Lilian had a variety of things tied, including but not limited to paintings, sculptures, and boxes.
After a couple of minutes, the portal Lilian mentioned finally appeared in the sky.
The portal in the middle looked like a vortex, surrounded by numerous palm-sized silver-white flying dragons. Lilian could have summoned the portal earlier, but doing so wouldn’t have served any purpose. To pass through the portal, a certain speed was necessary. Otherwise, one might end up in a strange place.
“Mr. Ron, you must hold your breath next,” Lilian kindly reminded.
When he entered the portal, Ron felt like he had been thrown into a vast ocean, with bubbles gurgling in his ears. His vision became akin to diving into water, making it hard to distinguish clarity from blurriness. Another similarity with diving into the sea was that Ron found it a bit difficult to breathe.
Being liquid-controlling white dragons, these creatures even experienced entering the portal-like diving.
“I’m going to die!”
“No, don’t worry. You won’t die for sure.”
Ron would only feel quite uncomfortable. Death, on the other hand, was not on the table.
