Chapter 39: The Ogre Lord
For the four seasoned mercenaries fully engaged in combat, dispatching eleven ogre infantry was naturally a breeze. Moreover, under Tyr’s guidance, both Butterfly of Sunflowers and Shating Iron Sword showed visible growth in their strength, a development that filled Wind Slash Ghost and Emerald Star with envy.
“Follow me!”
As they ran swiftly, Tyr called out to the four not far behind. Everyone quickly caught up, drawing closer to Tyr. Whether it was due to venturing deeper into the den of monsters or not, the once clear sky above the Meteorite Mountains was now densely covered with dark clouds. The entire mountain range took on an eerie atmosphere in no time.
Meanwhile, at the location where Tyr and the others had just left, a large number of ogres emerged from numerous caves. Moreover, a colossal ogre, approximately ten meters tall, roared and chased after them at a speed beyond that of ordinary creatures!
“Elder! A ogre lord has appeared in the rear! This guy should be the strongest existence before the appearance of the Ogre King, a level four monster!”
“Ogre lord!?” Tyr raised an eyebrow slightly, glancing at the giant creature behind them, then looked towards the natural stone bridge about five to six meters wide and over ten meters thick ahead. After a moment of contemplation, he said,
“You guys go ahead first!”
“Yes!”
“Do you need help?” Dragon Slayer asked earnestly, as this was a level four monster, belonging to the 【Broken Army】 level. Even if humans were also 【Broken Army】 level, due to various reasons, they were generally slightly weaker than monsters in various aspects. Therefore, in a one-on-one situation, the human side would be in a precarious position. Tyr shook his head, a gesture that made Dragon Slayer smile slightly, and she led the other four quickly across the stone bridge.
Tyr turned around and drew his trusty iron weapon, the 【Wind Sword】, from his side. The massive ogre approached slowly, its oppressive presence almost reaching the level of the giant beast from earlier. Yet, it was only close, not quite there. Tyr narrowed his eyes, the reflection of the giant figure mirrored in his gaze.
“【Heaven Sword One Heart】, first form,” Tyr muttered to himself, as if soliloquizing in silence. However, the sharp intent of the sword was clearly felt by the five even from a distance – it was an immensely powerful strike!
“Slash!”
Buzz! The sound of the sword echoed through the sky. A white light streaked across the night like lightning, heading straight for the ogre lord!
Roar!
The massive ogre sensed the threat brought by the white light and immediately halted its steps, lifting its stone club as a shield!
Bang! As the white light made contact with the stone club, the massive weapon shattered instantly. A horrifying wound appeared on the ogre lord’s chest, and blood spurted out with its roar!
With just one strike, the once mighty lord of the ogres was injured. Such an achievement could not help but earn even more respect from the four senior mercenaries. Dragon Slayer smiled slightly as well, though she lacked the ignorance displayed by the others.
“What are you planning to do next? While it’s impressive to injure a level four monster with one blow, it seems like the opponent is still quite lively.”
Just as the words fell, with a sudden boom, the stone bridge beneath the ogre lord’s feet shattered, and the creature, now further enraged and strengthened, plummeted out of sight.
“Let’s go!” Tyr seemed to anticipate the event, not bothering to look down to see if the ogre had fallen to the bottom of the mountain. Instead, he turned and caught up with the other five.
“So your initial target was its feet.” Dragon Slayer’s smile remained, but her gaze towards Tyr took on a slightly different meaning.
“Well, considering it’s such a big fellow, even if the two of us teamed up, it might take some effort. That would just take too much time.”
Tyr was speaking the truth. The level four monster was the highest level he had encountered in the Sang Zang Forest besides the giant beast. However, he had always chosen to flee in previous encounters. Though today was different, he still wouldn’t choose to confront it head-on if he could conserve his strength. Moreover, he could only fully execute the first form of the sacred martial art, 【Heaven Sword One Heart】, and without a sword and with the sealing of the 【Descent of the Divine】, even though using a twig was an option, facing a level four monster, he didn’t believe it would be of much use, despite being well-versed in the auxiliary martial art, 【Everything Can Be Utilized】.
“Where do we go from here? Since we encountered the ogre lord here, the ogre king shouldn’t be far off, right?”
“Yes!” Emerald Star took out the map and cast an acceleration spell on herself, barely keeping up with the speed of the five people. She spoke with some difficulty.
“After crossing the stone bridge, turn right and go up along this mountain. At the end, there’s a huge cave where the ogre king resides. However, there shouldn’t be too few ogre infantry and ogre hunters around.”
“When the time comes, leave those guys to you to hold off. If you feel you can’t hold on, you can choose to retreat. This isn’t just a polite remark; I hope all six of us who came will return.” Tyr’s words moved the other four somewhat. After all, mercenaries often faced death. A comrade who was laughing heartily with them in a tavern yesterday might become monster food today. Therefore, even though this kind of speech might sound insincere to outsiders, mercenaries couldn’t help but be moved.
“All right, let’s get started.”
