Chapter 50: Not Too Trusting of Us
Because Eveum didn’t follow the Mother Holy Tree faith, Ron explained the Mother Holy Tree and Withered Root Disease without any emotional burden.
He shared this information with Eveum because he believed she was a magical witch who might have a solution. However, Eveum’s silence disappointed him a bit. Perhaps she didn’t grasp the concepts of the Mother Holy Tree and Withered Root Disease.
“Mother Holy Tree… Withered Root Disease?” Eveum stood up and looked out the window.
Muttering to herself, her expression gradually revealed surprise—because the Mother Holy Tree had appeared in the distance.
Tall and majestic, it appeared incredibly malevolent to Eveum.
Before turning into black mud, the Mother Holy Tree wasn’t visible in the Wind Veil Basin. Why did it suddenly appear?
Maybe during her magic running wild, the Mother Holy Tree invaded the Wind Veil Basin. This was problematic, as she agreed with her foster mother to protect the Wind Veil Basin.
“I might have to take my leave, Lord Ron,” she said in a deep voice.
Returning home might help her find a way to suppress the Mother Holy Tree. As she tried to leave, her legs gave way, and she fell to the ground.
Eveum, puzzled, felt her weakened body, “What’s happening to me?”
“Miss Eveum, you just recovered and can’t adapt to a weakened body so quickly,” Lilian explained.
Returning to her original state is a miracle for a witch swallowed by black mud. Eveum’s current condition was expected.
“I took a long time to adapt before,” Moluna said as she helped Eveum up, “You need to rest for a while.”
Moluna, who helped Eveum up, poured her a glass of water. “Drink some water. It’s good for your body.”
“Is there a place for her to stay in Windbird Town?” Ron asked Lilian.
“The Phylin tribe doesn’t have the resources to build extra houses,” Lilian said, “Right now, this house of yours is the only place for Miss Eveum to stay.”
“Hmm?” Ron smiled upon hearing this.
Eveum wanted to return to her treehouse quickly, but it wasn’t possible in her current condition.
“Thank you for your help,” Eveum said.
“You can stay with me,” Moluna told Eveum, “I’ll take care of you.”
Eveum smiled, “Thank you.”
She couldn’t remember how long it had been since someone treated her so kindly. Meeting another witch in the Wind Veil Basin was indeed a joyful occurrence. However, it would be even better if there were no issues with the Mother Holy Tree.
“I’ll take you to find a room,” Moluna said, holding Eveum’s hand. Eveum could sense the warmth despite the lack of expression on her face.
Once Moluna left with Eveum, Ron spoke up.
“Miss Lilian, she seems quite wary of us,” Ron remarked.
Ron clearly sensed that Eveum was hiding something.
Lilian nodded, “Your judgment is correct. She does indeed not trust us much.”
“I think Miss Eveum’s attitude is understandable,” she said, “Even though you saved her, witches generally have no goodwill towards humans.”
“Or rather, the fact that she can smile at you already makes her quite a friendly witch.”
“I can’t help but feel she knows something about the Mother Holy Tree and Withered Root Disease,” Ron sighed.
If only Eveum could tell them about these matters, he could come up with a solution sooner.
“Mr. Ron, I don’t think, even if you knew about these things in advance, you would come up with a solution,” Lilian said unexpectedly, “After all, you’re not that smart.”
“Hmm?” Ron felt that Lilian was underestimating him.
Did Lilian read his mind again? She couldn’t accurately read minds, right?
“I indeed can’t accurately read your thoughts, but your thoughts are too simple,” Lilian said regretfully.
It’s not that Lilian wants to read him so clearly. It’s just that Ron is sometimes quite predictable.
“I am your master,” Ron clicked his tongue.
Why wasn’t the system assigning a task at a time like this, allowing him to properly punish Lilian?
【Ding, because you have already defeated the creature before you, the system will no longer assign you corresponding tasks.】
【If you need, the system can arrange for you to confront other powerful creatures.】
“No need,” Ron immediately vetoed the system’s proposal.
He had a feeling the system would make him confront Lady Mercury again. Although Ron didn’t know Lady Mercury’s combat capabilities, he had witnessed Lilian’s prowess.
Considering that Lilian followed Lady Mercury’s orders, Lady Mercury couldn’t be much inferior to Lilian.
“Don’t get your hopes up. We don’t know who they’ll send,” Ron shrugged.
“This is my room,” on the other side, Moluna had already led Eveum into her room.
Her room was very simple, without much decoration—mainly because even if she wanted to decorate, Windbird Town didn’t have a place for Moluna to buy decorations.
“Moluna, miss,” Eveum called.
“Just call me Moluna. You can call me directly, and I’ll call you Eveum.”
“Alright, Moluna.” Eveum smiled, paused for a moment, and then said, “Once I’ve rested, I’ll probably leave.”
Moluna first met Eveum’s gaze, then said, “Okay.”
She didn’t try to keep Eveum but added, “You can come back to this town anytime.”
“I’ve never felt malice here,” Moluna said earnestly.
Everything here was completely different from Moluna’s past experiences, even though Windbird Town hadn’t been fully built. But for Moluna, this is a paradise beyond the reach of ordinary witches.
Eveum gently patted Moluna’s head, “If possible.”
