Chapter 58: Open Your Heart
Even though she hadn’t lived in Fengniao Town for an extended period, Eveum felt that every place here was recognizable. The bustling Phylin tribe on the road looked particularly charming from behind.
“I’m a bit unsure of the way. Can you tell me how to find Lord Ron?” Eveum adjusted her dress and squatted before a Phylin tribe member, asking softly.
“Mr. Ron’s house?!” The Phylin tribe member pointed in the direction of the mayor’s mansion. “It’s over there!”
Ron’s residence was notably large for Fengniao Town, easily visible.
Of course, the Phylin tribe planned to construct an even more extensive house than the mayor’s mansion.
But first, they needed to finish building all the houses in Fengniao Town. After all, only a fraction of the town’s houses had been constructed.
And the occupancy rate was even less, not even reaching a fraction of a tenth. After all, one couldn’t expect the small Phylin tribe to fill up all the houses.
“Thank you,” Eveum patted the head of the Phylin Tribe member and then prepared to walk away.
But as she stood up, she saw Ron on the road.
After bumping into Eveum, Ron visibly paused. “Good morning, Miss Eveum.”
“Good morning, Lord Ron,” Eveum smiled and nodded.
Ron took a brief look at Eveum. Just as Loloan had mentioned, Eveum looked quite worn out.
However, compared to when Ron saw her near Eveum’s house, she seemed to be doing much better.
At least Eveum’s eyes weren’t marked with tears, and her body wasn’t covered in bloodstains and black ashes. At least, there was no sign of hostility.
“My home is here,” Ron said to Eveum. “Sitting is better than standing.”
“Okay,” Eveum didn’t resist. After all, she had wanted to go to Ron’s house, and now her wish was fulfilled.
Since Eveum found Ron, Loloan shouted, “Since it doesn’t concern us, let’s go build houses.”
Not only was he the strongest warrior of the Phylin Tribe, but he was also a key figure in rebuilding houses.
Knowing that strength could be useful in more places than just battles was important.
When Loloan turned around, the wood almost hit Ron again.
Before Ron could complain, Loloan had already slipped away, and all Ron could hear was his voice in the distance.
“We’re here! There were some troubles just now, but everything’s sorted out now!” For Loloan, building houses was the top priority.
For Loloan, building houses was the most important task at the moment.
Ron’s and Eveum’s eyes met, and then Eveum smiled at Ron.
“Cough, cough…” Ron felt like Eveum was laughing at him, so he pretended nothing happened.
“Welcome, this is where I live,” Ron proudly declared after bringing Eveum to the mayor’s mansion.
Even though Ron didn’t know how the previous mayor managed to build such a large house, it was now his!
After a nod of acknowledgment from Lilian and Ron, she silently went to prepare things to entertain the guests.
Moluna also felt it was her duty to host the guests, so she handed a glass of water to Eveum.
Moluna couldn’t find anything else, but the water was readily available.
After thanking Moluna for her kindness, Eveum took the glass but didn’t drink. Instead, she looked deeply at Ron.
“Please, have a seat,” Ron rubbed his chin, feeling like it was the right time to say that.
Eveum sat down slowly and began, “Lord Ron, do you remember the question you asked me last time?”
“Last time?” Ron crossed his arms, trying to remember.
Honestly, he had spoken quite a bit with Eveum and couldn’t recall what he had asked last time.
Eveum was talking about the last time in the treehouse, right?
No, that doesn’t make sense. Those things are not appropriate for this occasion.
“About the Mother Holy Tree and the Withering Root Disease,” Eveum explained, noticing Ron’s puzzled expression.
“I apologize for not being upfront with you last time, especially about these matters,” she said solemnly, bowing.
She knew apologizing might not be sufficient; concealing such matters could easily erode trust.
“You know about these things?” Ron raised an eyebrow, surprised that Eveum had brought it up alone.
He was struggling with how to deal with the Mother Holy Tree and Withered Root Syndrome, and Eveum’s words were like a godsend.
“I’m well acquainted with them because I’ve been containing the spread of the Mother Holy Tree roots here in the Wind Veil Basin,” Eveum explained.
Ron hadn’t realized that Eveum was the person mentioned by the system that suppressed the roots of the Mother Holy Tree.
“Originally, the Withering Root Disease shouldn’t have occurred, but some time ago, I was swallowed by black mud,” Eveum said.
“So, I couldn’t suppress the Mother Holy Tree, allowing its roots to spread from the Buried Alive Plains to this area.”
Throughout the generations, witches in the Wind Veil Basin had the duty to suppress the roots of the Mother Holy Tree. They were known as the Green Witches.
Ron hadn’t realized that Eveum was the person mentioned by the system that suppressed the roots of the Mother Holy Tree.
“After you rescued me, I should have continued to suppress the roots of the Mother Holy Tree,” Eveum said, her expression freezing. “But many things happened afterward.”
“Those things…” Ron hesitated, well aware of what Eveum was referring to.
Eveum’s tree house was set on fire by the refugees, leaving her with no time to suppress the roots of the Mother Holy Tree.
“Now the roots of the Mother Holy Tree are growing wildly,” Eveum explained. “This will cause Withered Root Syndrome in the Wind Veil Basin.”
“How can we solve the Withered Root Syndrome?” Ron asked.
“Cutting off all the roots of the Mother Holy Tree from the Wind Veil Basin is the solution,” Eveum replied.
Eveum paused after saying this, “But it’s not that simple.”
The Wind Veil Basin is vast, and ordinary people cannot deal with these roots.
“My mother left something for me,” Eveum said, taking a leaf.
This leaf remained unscathed even after experiencing a big fire, with its color intact.
“It can tell us where the crucial nodes of the roots of the Mother Holy Tree are.”
“All roots grow in a tree-like structure. If we find the nodes and destroy them, the roots behind the nodes will be rendered useless.”
After some consideration, Eveum handed the leaf to Ron. “Please take care of it.”
Right now, it’s not suitable for me to keep it, given the risk of my potential outbursts.
