Chapter 70: Application of the Six Arts
“Let me start,” said Zamiyah, the secretary-general of the Avalon Student Union. He gestured towards the front row of magicians and continued, “You ten, demonstrate the Crystal Shield Art for me, all at once.”
“Yes!” Although these ten magicians were considered geniuses locally, they still appeared very nervous in front of someone like Zamiyah. After all, he was a figure seen in magical stones and textbooks, renowned worldwide. None of these underage girls had the unwavering mindset required; they were all essentially terrified.
The ten individuals displayed their proficiency in the Crystal Shield Art, with some creating solid shields while others appeared quite rough in their execution. Zamiyah pointed at three of them and said, “You three, stay. The rest are eliminated.”
“Great!” The three remaining individuals cheered and congratulated each other, while those eliminated turned pale. They didn’t have the mature mindset of being able to take success and failure in stride; failure would leave indelible memories.
At this point, the male emcee on the stage below spoke up.
“Crystal Shield might be unfamiliar to some warrior friends, but those who deal with magicians should understand its function. By using magic to form a shield, you need to understand its structure more than you do with Qi shields. The more you understand its state, the more solid it becomes. With enhanced magic, Crystal Shield can become increasingly powerful. It’s highly practical in combat as a defensive magic. It’s much more flexible compared to December Holy Shield and other chant-based magics like Xuanwu. Of course, if you want to turn the tide of battle with a comeback, then I recommend higher-level magics.”
There was a sudden realization among the audience, along with some disdainful voices, evidently finding it amusing that some people were still unaware of Crystal Shield.
Next up was Nicholas. She selected ten individuals and designated the Healing Art. Although Nicholas, known as the “Cage Emperor,” was a warrior, her understanding of magic was incomparable to these youngsters. It was possible that Nicholas had encountered more magicians in battle than these youngsters had ever seen.
In this tense process, wave after wave, over a thousand people were quickly eliminated, leaving only about half. Naturally, Yuehai passed, and even Arena passed without much difficulty due to having studied magic for several years in the elven tribe.
“So, next up will be the second part of the second round, the practical application of the six arts,” Nicholas continued, slightly embarrassed, as she held her prepared notes.
“I believe everyone knows that the six arts are the foundation of a magician’s basics. Many intermediate and high-level magics are derived from these arts, so their importance goes without saying. This second part primarily requires the over four hundred magicians present to devise corresponding strategies based on the prompts provided by us judges.”
“This time, it’s a one-on-one test, with all five judges conducting the evaluations simultaneously, continuously rotating the tests until we determine the final one hundred contestants.”
The breathing of the over four hundred girls suddenly became somewhat tense, indicating that this was the decisive moment where success or failure would be determined.
“Let’s start with you.” Zamiyah once again took the lead, selecting ten individuals, among whom was Yuehai. She raised an eyebrow, thinking it was just as well, saving her from waiting.
Zamiyah glanced over the ten people and immediately noticed that Yuehai’s demeanor was different from the others. He seemed like he was on vacation, exuding a relaxed vibe in both expression and behavior. The moment Yuehai stepped forward, the audience erupted into waves of amazed cheers, clearly indicating that Yuehai’s beauty was causing men’s hormones to flow without restraint!
“A bunch of damn men,” uttered the disgusted Avalon grade director, Rafinas, from the sidelines. Unfortunately, her voice was drowned out by the continuous waves of cheers from the crowd.
Nicholas chuckled on the side, attempting to calm down Rafinas’s anger. It was a joke; Rafinas had a dark history of nearly being taken advantage of by higher-ups. Although this incident was never exposed, it left an indelible scar on young Rafinas. Since then, she had worn a scowl whenever she encountered men. The male students at Avalon were no strangers to her strictness, and there were even rumors about Rafinas single-handedly slaughtering hundreds of men in a single night. Nicholas had heard about it from higher-ups on a rare occasion, so she hurriedly tried to soothe Rafinas’ emotions. After all, if Rafinas were to unleash her wrath at the scene, it would be disastrous.
“Let’s start with you.” Zamiyah pointed at Yuehai with interest. “Cure the husky in front of you. Remember, you only have one chance.”
“Yes.” Yuehai nodded solemnly, squatting down to look at the large yellow dog that had clearly been brought over by someone, gasping for breath. Its tongue hung long, eyes rolled back, breathing was rapid, and there were noticeable cuts on its front paws.
However, these were not the main points. Yuehai noticed Zamiyah’s underlying meaning from the beginning. She said to cure the dog, not just heal its wounds. So the superficial injuries were clearly a distraction; the real issue must lie within its body.
