Chapter 57: Just a Glance

“What are you doing?”

Muen was staring blankly at a glass of water when suddenly, Eluka’s voice came from behind him.

Startled, he almost knocked the glass directly onto Eluka’s face.

Luckily, he managed to stop himself.

“What’s wrong?” Eluka asked curiously.

“It’s nothing, it’s just that you walk so quietly, you scared me.”

“Oh, I see. Well, it can’t be helped. In my house, if you walk noisily, you’ll get a beating,” Eluka chuckled.

“Exactly, it’s the same in my family. It seems like all families around the world value these things, like not smacking your lips while eating.”

“Who says they don’t?” Eluka shrugged, then turned and walked back to the kitchen.

Before long, Eluka emerged from the kitchen, struggling a bit as she carried a large plate of roasted lamb.

“The roast lamb is ready.”

“So fast?” Muen quickly got up to help.

“It’s only been an hour, can it be cooked?”

“It was already cooked.” Eluka winked mischievously.

“I put the lamb in the oven on low heat before I left, so when I got back, all I needed to do was sprinkle some spices. The reason I waited so long… actually, it was to make you a little hungrier.”

“That’s too much!”

“Haha, just kidding. After sprinkling the spices, it still needs to be roasted for a while to let the flavor seep in.”

Eluka handed Muen a set of knife and fork. “You can cut it yourself. I won’t help with such trivial matters.”

“Thank you.” Muen took the knife and fork, about to start cutting, but then he suddenly seemed to remember something, staring straight at Eluka.

“Um… you go ahead and eat first.”

“Hmm?” Eluka furrowed her brow, looking at Muen. “Do you suspect me of poisoning it?”

“No, no.” Muen waved his hands vigorously, chuckling awkwardly.

“I just thought, you suddenly came over to enjoy the meal and drink, and you’ve been busy for so long. If you still can’t taste the delicious food first, wouldn’t I, as a guest, be a bit impolite?”

“Is that so?”

Eluka stared at Muen for a while, then suddenly raised an eyebrow, smiling. “I’ll take it as you meant it that way.”

Eluka picked up a silver knife, skillfully shaved off a piece of crispy, fragrant skin from the roasted lamb, and put it into her mouth.

As her teeth met the skin, it made a crispy, fragrant sound that made one’s mouth water just by listening.

“Well then, I won’t hold back either.”

Seeing this scene, Muen couldn’t resist any longer. He picked up his knife and fork and demonstrated his Level 5 Knife Skill with precision in slicing the lamb. The firm meat entered his mouth, instantly filling his nostrils with a rich aroma of spices, without a hint of gaminess. The taste was so good that it could rival the chefs of the Duke’s mansion.

“How is it?”

“Absolutely fantastic!”

Muen’s cheeks puffed up like a squirrel feasting, unable to resist giving a thumbs-up.

“Is that so? I’m glad,” Eluka smiled, lips pursed.

However, after the first bite, she didn’t rush to continue eating. Instead, she carefully used the silver knife to slice the lamb into thin pieces, placing them neatly on the plate, even arranging them meticulously.

Is she preparing this for her husband?

Muen couldn’t help but think so, and once again marveled at the loving relationship between this newlywed couple.

But then he remembered his own situation, unable to return home and still being chased by a yandere, and couldn’t help but feel sorrowful. So he could only turn his sadness into appetite and lower his head to eat heartily.

“Woof!”

Muen, who was enjoying his meal, suddenly heard a dog bark. He instinctively looked up towards the direction of the bark.

Huh? This position… isn’t it inside the house?

“That’s my pet dog,” Eluka explained. “Usually very well-behaved, but it seems like it’s hungry now.”

“You have a pet dog?” Muen’s eyes lit up. “Can I see it? I really like dogs.”

In his past life, Muen had always wanted to raise a Golden Retriever, but neither time nor circumstances allowed it. Even until his death, he only managed to satisfy his urge by occasionally visiting pet stores.

So, since he had the chance to interact with a dog now, he couldn’t let it slip by.

“Sorry, not possible,” Eluka refused decisively. “Our dog is very shy. Otherwise, it wouldn’t keep hiding in the room.”

“I see,” Muen sighed with some regret.

“Well, that’s how it goes.”

It seemed like he would never have the chance to raise a pet in this lifetime. Instead, he always ended up being treated like one himself, which was quite annoying.

“Enjoy your meal. I’ll go feed my dog,” Eluka said as she carried the sliced lamb she had just cut, humming a tune. She turned around the corridor, heading to the innermost room, and opened the door.

“Woof, woof, woof!”

“Good dog, good boy. I brought some food for you.”

“Woof, woof, woof…”

Eluka casually closed the door behind her, and the barking of the dog became muffled, but Muen could still sense a hint of… excitement?

“It seems like Eluka has a great relationship with her dog.”

It was truly enviable.

Muen sighed and continued his battle with the roasted lamb for the second round.

“Huh?”

Halfway through his meal, Muen suddenly raised his head, shocked.

“So, all those slices of meat were meant for the dog?”

“Ah, I’m full.”

After devouring nearly half of the roasted lamb, Muen leaned back in his chair, patting his round belly, feeling a satisfaction he had never experienced before. What could be more fulfilling than being able to eat delicious food until you were stuffed after a day of hunger?

“I feel like even if I were to die right now, I would have no regrets.”

“Are you full?” Eluka emerged from the room, holding an empty plate.

“You look pretty tired. Do you want to take a nap? The guest room is available.”

“Is that… okay?”

Muen hesitated. “First, I’m freeloading meals and now I’m freeloading sleep.”

“Look at it this way, you’ve already freeloaded meals, do you really care about freeloading sleep?” Eluka smiled.

“You have a point,” Muen nodded, not being overly sentimental. “Then I’ll have to trouble you a bit more.”

“It’s okay. The guest room is the first one on the left.”

“Thank you.” Muen walked into the guest room.

It was apparent that the room wasn’t specifically prepared. The bedding was very basic, without even a proper blanket. But for Muen, it was more than enough.

Lying on the bed, the exhaustion accumulated over the past two days engulfed him like a tidal wave. He quickly drifted off to sleep.

Outside the window, the moon was shining brightly, casting its pure light.

Everything was quiet as usual.

“I love you.”

“Oh no!”

At midnight, Muen suddenly widened his eyes, his expression extremely serious. It was as if he had encountered a major crisis.

“I need to use the bathroom.”

Having eaten too much too quickly, his stomach wasn’t feeling well.

“I shouldn’t have indulged myself like this.”

Muen cautiously got out of bed, then silently opened the door and stepped into the hallway.

“Oh no, I forgot to ask where the bathroom is.”

“At this time… Eluka should be asleep, right? It wouldn’t be good to wake her up suddenly.”

Muen stood at the end of the hallway, facing three unfamiliar doors in front of him.

“Three choices, the odds are pretty good, right?”

Muen placed his hand on the handle of the rightmost door and slowly pushed. The door gradually opened a crack.

“Woof.”

A dog’s bark suddenly escaped from the door.

“What’s this…” Muen wondered.

Seems like Eluka’s dog’s room.

“Not the bathroom, huh?”

Muen sighed disappointedly, ready to quietly close the door.

“Wait a minute.”

But suddenly, a spark lit up in Muen’s eyes.

“Since I’m already here, why not take a peek?”

After all, he really liked dogs.

Just a peek shouldn’t hurt, right?

With that in mind, Muen crouched down and slowly brought his eyes closer to the crack in the door.
