Chapter 1: Just Arrived, Let’s Start with a Beheading
Ron believed time travellers should establish themselves as heroes. The essence of many great deeds lay in encounters with charming individuals. However, as time passed, he grasped the harsh reality—dreams shrink, and passion wanes.
For four consecutive days, he lived as a homeless person, realising that the perks promised in crossing to another world were deceptive.
“Human abilities are limited. Knowing this makes one quite angry,” Ron’s voice resonated with emotion.
A fellow inmate, puzzled, questioned, “Is that why you threw the kid into the trash can?”
Ron calmly confirms, “Yes.”
His neat black hair and carefully carved features were marred only by thick dark circles.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t have acted impulsively. I bet you must regret it now,” remarks the cellmate.
Ron replies sincerely, “Give me a second chance, and I would still stuff that little brat into the trash can.”
Having time-travelled and wandered for four days, he finally afforded a meal, only to have it ruined by a brat. Ron’s retaliation led to a prison sentence for attempted murder.
Labelling him a lunatic, both cellmates and guards agree. Yet, Ron, facing the consequences, remained unapologetic. His life as a madman was nearing its end, having offended a senator’s son.
Survival in the city is unlikely.
Optimistically, Ron reflected, “My miserable vagabond life is about to end.”
However, his impending execution brought a new concern—the squirming substance in the corner.
His cellmate casually revealed, “That’s a witch. Can’t you see?”
Stunned, Ron questions why the witch ended up in such a state.
The cellmate, assuming knowledge, remarks, “She’ll probably be sent to be executed, just like us.”
Ron, maintaining composure, hides the internal chaos triggered by his impending execution.
Curious, he asked, “Why did the witch end up like this?”
The cellmate, giving him a strange look, said, “You don’t even know about this?”
“I really don’t know,” Ron was straightforward. Having time-travelled just a few days ago, there was no way he could know about such things.
“The powers of witches defy logic, so the Circle of the World punishes them,” the cellmate whispered. “In the end, without exception, they all turn into this blob.”
In Ron’s concept, witches should wear pointed hats, long boots, and capes that go beyond their knees, looking cute. Seeing this squirming black slime in the corner, he felt like his impression of witches was about to be shattered.
Just as he was sighing about this, there came a banging on the door from outside.
The jailer rudely said, “Come out, it’s your turn, you lunatic.”
“It’s my turn?” Ron furrowed his brow. He distinctly remembered that it was supposed to be several more days before it was his turn to go to the guillotine.
Before he could react, he was roughly pulled out by the jailer. “Move, don’t linger here!”
Seeing Ron being dragged out, his cellmate’s face turned deathly pale.
Today, it’s Ron, and tomorrow it will probably be him. This is not something he was looking forward to. This isn’t the place for public execution. No one will know he’s dead.
Ron seemed to want to say something, but he was forcibly pressed onto the guillotine. Although the guillotine had just been cleaned, the smell of blood still lingered, indicating that the previous person’s blood hadn’t been washed away. At this moment, the judge had already approached the guillotine, chewing an apple in his mouth. “Next, we’ll carry out your execution.”
Having offended the city’s politicians, whatever additional charges on Ron’s body wouldn’t be surprising. In fact, he could be executed without any specific charges at all.
“I suppose you don’t have anything to say. The sooner you die, the sooner you’ll be reborn,” the judge glanced at the young Ron indifferently.
However, Ron’s attention was not on these words at all. Another voice popped into his head, and a corresponding panel appeared in his line of sight.
【Hello, congratulations on becoming the one-hundredth traveller to use this system.】
【This system is committed to turning travellers into the strongest beings on Earth.】
【Name: Ron】
【Strength Assessment: Unranked】
【Halo Fragments: None】
[You’re currently weak, but under the system’s guidance, you’ll definitely become a force to be reckoned with.]“Ah?” Ron made the most confused sound of his life.
【Detecting your confusion.】
【Because system matching takes time, it is only now functioning normally. Please understand, traveller.】
While having a system was undoubtedly a happy thing, right now, he was on the guillotine.
“If this system can help him get off the guillotine, he would be very grateful to it.”
[The system will do its best to escort you on your journey to another world, and you will have one chance to avoid death.]Ron was stunned for a moment. Although he didn’t know how the system would prevent his death, it seemed like good news.
[But to activate this feature, you must complete an activation.]“How do I activate it?” Ron almost blurted out the question.
[Please say, ‘I am now the enemy of Vandal.]Although Ron didn’t know Vandal and had no real enmity with him, for the sake of staying alive, he didn’t care about that.
Of course, before shouting, he asked cautiously, “Who is Vandal?”
【Answer: Vandal is just a monster with a hammer.】
Upon hearing the system’s answer, Ron completely relaxed. So, Vandal is just a monster with a hammer.
Since that’s the case, there’s nothing to worry about. So, he immediately muttered quietly on the guillotine, “I am now the enemy of Vandal.”
He spoke quietly to avoid sounding arrogant.
“What did you say?” The judge felt like he heard something extraordinary.
“I said I am now the enemy of Vandal.” Ron subconsciously reiterated.
As the words fell, everyone present fell into silence.
Monster with hammer maybe Thor?
