Chapter 30: Deterrence!
“A bunch of jumping clowns!” Diaz’s voice echoed throughout the square. His gaze sent shivers down the spines of the participants, but then they heard these words from the formidable figure.
“Lord Tyr, a man even I can defeat! How dare you, you bunch of insignificant nobodies, compare yourselves to him? Withdraw your disrespectful words at once!”
This statement not only startled everyone on the field but also caused a momentary stiffness in Kaga’s expression as he watched from the sidelines. His gaze towards Tyr changed instantly, as if trying to decipher what kind of individual he truly was at that moment.
However, at this moment, Tyr waved his hand towards Diaz, then drew his sword, the “Demon Entrancer,” from his waist, and strode towards all the contestants.
“I am Tyr. Anyone who dares to challenge me, come forward. But know that you must pay with your lives.”
Tyr made this statement, having learned the truth since the incident at the Magical Girl Contest.
Kindness can be taken advantage of. The more you act indifferent, brushing off insults as if they mean nothing, the more you invite bullying. Sometimes, not showing a resolute attitude cannot control the situation.
At this moment, Tyr stepped forward, facing tens of thousands of contestants alone with his sword. If they all rushed at him, they could tear Tyr to shreds in an instant.
But what were the results?
One by one, they were at a loss. Even the fiercest contestants who had been boasting earlier didn’t dare to step forward.
Why? Because of what Diaz said, because of the attitude Tyr showed at this time! That’s a step only the strong dare to take, those are words of boldness that only the strong can utter in the face of tens of thousands of contenders!
They can’t afford to gamble. They all came to participate in the Avalon assessment, each with their own future and hopes. How can they risk their lives in such a contest of pride? If Tyr is really as powerful as Diaz claims, he could probably kill any one of them with just a breath.
With this thought in mind, the voices of dissent gradually faded away, and it didn’t take long for everything to calm down.
Kaga looked at Tyr with newfound respect. He hadn’t expected this man to not only have incredibly fast reflexes but also an indomitable spirit.
“Indeed,” Kaga nodded slightly. “Avalon likes people with backbone. Complacency is the real enemy of the academy.”
Seeing no one dared to confront him head-on, Tyr sheathed his sword and walked back to Diaz’s group.
Diaz smiled slightly at Tyr, clearly showing his approval of his actions, while Dragon Slayer lightly patted the other’s chest, speaking somewhat irritably.
“Do you enjoy ganging up on people so much?”
Tyr was nearly knocked off balance by Dragon Slayer’s “light tap,” which only amused Dragon Slayer further. As for Ye Xi, she remained with her eyes closed, as if the events unfolding around her were of no concern.
Kaga knew that there was always a bit of rebellion like this every year. That’s why he remained so composed, letting the participants handle it themselves. If they couldn’t, Avalon would step in naturally.
“Alright, then follow me for now.”
“Please give me a minute,” Tyr suddenly spoke up at this moment, catching Kaga off guard for a moment. Then it dawned on him; this lad had two young girls with him. He must want to say something to them. Kaga wasn’t devoid of empathy; he was quite considerate toward younger students who managed to enter the academy.
“There’s no time limit, just settle things as quickly as possible.”
These words made Tyr feel a slight fondness towards Kaga. He nodded slightly and then turned towards the direction of the other participants.
“I’ll be waiting for you in the academy. Let’s each do our best.”
He didn’t address this to the direction of the Butterfly of Sunflowers. After all, if others found out about their relationship with Tyr, it might hinder their assessment in the future. Petty-minded individuals were abundant, and Tyr wasn’t foolish enough to bid farewell to the Butterfly of Sunflowers at this moment.
It was clear that Tyr’s followers weren’t foolish either. They didn’t respond to Tyr’s words but maintained an indifferent attitude, just like the others. Even Arena, who wanted to strike up a conversation, had her mouth covered by the Butterfly of Sunflowers, looking extremely aggrieved.
Diaz, on the other hand, didn’t have any intention of bidding farewell to Leia. After all, they were just colleagues. Diaz had no intention of protecting Leia, and Leia didn’t need it either. Moreover, both of them had very decisive personalities and wouldn’t be bothered by such trivial matters.
Finally, Tyr nodded slightly to indicate to Kaga that he had finished his business. Kaga, just to be sure, asked the others again if there was anything they needed to do. The response was met with silence, except for Dragon Slayer, who courteously said no.
Of course, Kaga wouldn’t be annoyed by such trivial matters.
“Then follow me inside.”
The Avalon Academy is divided into a total of twenty-three districts. Among them, the first sixteen districts are all various clubs and specialized colleges, except for the eleventh district, while the districts from seventeen onwards are a mix of dormitory areas and kindergarten areas.
The dormitory areas naturally serve as places for students and staff to rest.
Meanwhile, the Junior Division recruits children under the age of ten from around the world every ten years to receive systematic education at Avalon Academy.
And the results prove that children who grow up in Avalon from a young age can achieve even better results, obtaining the title of Imperial Holy Realm Mage or even higher after graduation.
Kaga briefly introduced the composition of Avalon’s regions to the five of them, then pointed to the road beneath their feet and said, “As for here, this is the first district, also known as the gateway to Avalon. The back gate is in the twenty-second district, and both sides are guarded by powerful guardians, so if you want to skip school, you must consider your own strength.”
Kaga’s words made Dragon Slayer smirk, while the others put on an unimpressed, cool expression, clearly not amused.
But this didn’t affect Kaga much; after all, he had seen many new students like this before, and in the end, they would all be influenced by the atmosphere of Avalon, so he wasn’t worried.
“Up ahead is a famous scenic route in Avalon called the ‘Heaven’s Path’.”
Kaga pointed to the massive white road not far away, and following the direction of the immense road, Tyr could see in the distance the central tower of the ‘Heaven’s Return Wheel’. These two awe-inspiring sights left Tyr marveling, even though he had seen them before. Especially the ‘Heaven’s Return Wheel’ – it was hard to imagine what kind of extraordinary craftsmanship it took to erect such a massive structure.
Next, Kaga gave the five individuals a brief history of the Heaven’s Path, and among them, only Diaz and Dragon Slayer listened with relish.
As for Ye Xi, she still maintained an air of ignorance and indifference, as if she and Tyr were living in two different worlds.
Tyr shrugged. He had heard Damiyala mention this before, so whether he listened or not didn’t matter. However, one thing he just realized was that although Kaga had mentioned five people, Tyr only saw four, including Kaga himself.
Was there something fishy going on here?
