Chapter 3: Lady Mercury
In the bustling tavern, Ron sat in a corner without ordering anything. Although he had recently done something shocking and outrageous, there were probably countless people in this city looking for him. But he considered the tavern a relatively safe place. After all, many eccentric characters were inside, and no one would pay much attention to him.
Ron folded his hands together, ready to contemplate what to do next. Next to him was a girl with a hood, who had been silent since a while ago, like a puppet.
“We should find a way to leave this cursed place,” Ron said in a low voice.
The girl continued to remain silent. Upon closer inspection, one could notice the emptiness in her eyes.
Ron fell silent momentarily, then sighed heavily, “As expected, she’s still like this.”
After the system absorbed the magic overflowing from the black slime, the puddle of black slime continuously reshaped itself, ultimately turning into the girl beside him.
If Ron’s guess was correct, she might be the witch. Unfortunately, she had remained vacant ever since the witch recovered from the black slime state. Ron could call her to follow him, and she would comply, but that was the extent of her responsiveness.
Getting information from the witch seemed unlikely. The system had also warned Ron that carrying such a burden could easily lead to his capture. However, Ron’s dream, which had initially dwindled, was reignited upon seeing the witch. With his dream rekindled, he couldn’t find any reason to leave the witch among the corpses. He ignored the system’s warning.
The essence of numerous great deeds was the encounter with charming girls. Ron felt that he was about to embark on a magnificent journey. But before that, he needed to leave this city. Otherwise, being caught would mean facing the guillotine again.
The next time, he wouldn’t have the system’s help, and his neck probably wouldn’t be any harder than the guillotine blade.
“Two guests. What would you like?” A maid wearing a headscarf approached with a smile on her face.
Ron said, patting the pouch in his chest, “Two bowls of thick soup will do.”
He still had some money on him, and as for where it came from, he could only say, “Don’t ask.”
“Sure, what kind of thick soup would you like?” The maid asked enthusiastically.
But just as Ron was about to inquire about the flavours, several soldiers in chainmail burst into the tavern, shouting, “Search! Search everyone!”
The tavern erupted into chaos as nobody knew why these soldiers had come.
“There’s a dangerous individual in the city. Cooperate!” One soldier bellowed in a coarse voice.
“Can you at least tell us what the person looks like?” The tavern owner came out, wiping his forehead.
“Like this,” a soldier unfurled a scroll, revealing a profile of a face, “He openly declares a difference in belief from Lord Vandar and is an extremely dangerous individual.”
The maid standing next to Ron turned pale upon seeing the face on the scroll. She stiffly turned her head to glance at Ron, involuntarily swallowing hard. Now, she was visibly nervous because the dangerous person the soldiers were talking about was right beside her. Trembling, the maid raised her hand, seemingly about to point out Ron.
“Come with me.” But before the maid could react, Ron grabbed the witch and rushed out of the door.
“Pursue! Chase him down! It must be that guy!!!” Seeing Ron fleeing with such guilt, the soldiers didn’t need much thought to realise they had found their target.
Once the soldiers rushed out of the tavern, the maid felt her legs give way, and she collapsed to the ground.
Ron ran like mad to get away from this troubled place. However, he couldn’t expect to escape by running, especially with a clueless companion. Unfortunately, the city’s layout was unfamiliar to him, making it challenging to find a hiding place.
“Hello.” At that moment, a middle-aged woman dressed in an exquisite blue robe appeared in front of him.
The woman had wrinkles at the corners of her eyes that couldn’t be concealed, but her elegant demeanour blurred any sense of age. Her wavy hair cascaded down to her shoulders, and her deep blue eyes were fixed on Ron.
She held a birdcage in her hand, but unfortunately, it contained a lizard, completely mismatching her refined demeanour.
“I’m on the run, thank you,” Ron said irritably.
“Mr. Ron, if you want to stay alive, please come with me this way.” The woman smiled kindly at Ron and mentioned his name directly.
This woman was not ordinary, and Ron sensed a hint of trouble. Appearing in such a situation at this particular moment was definitely not a coincidence.
“I know you’re wary of me, but right now, you need someone who can help you navigate this crisis,” she seemed to have guessed Ron’s thoughts and spoke directly.
“To prove I am your friend, I can show a little sincerity.” After saying this, she paused for a moment, “Thank you for your trust, Mr Ron,” the woman expressed surprise at Ron’s trust, her voice filled with gratitude.
She smiled and nodded, then turned around, ready to lead Ron.
“System Warning: the humanoid creature in front of you is quite powerful. Currently, you have no chance of winning.”
“I know,” Ron sighed deeply.
When such an encounter is presented before you, if you don’t cherish it, what’s the difference from being a passive bystander!?
Who says this isn’t a charming girl? Can the definition of a charming girl be so narrow!?
The lady walking ahead suddenly stumbled for some reason. She gave a wry smile but quickly regained composure, tapping the wall in front of her with her hand. Four blue lines flashed across the wall, and a door appeared before them.
“Please come in,” the woman opened the door, which appeared abruptly in the alley, inviting Ron inside.
Behind the door was a square room, sparsely furnished, making it look unusually spacious. There was only one window in the room, and the interior was dimly lit, covered in a layer of subdued colours. Opposite the door was a fireplace with a frame made of grey-white stone, now containing only charcoal.
The woman sat behind a desk, smiling as she pushed an empty cup towards Ron.
Ron initially thought the other party was playing a prank on him, but he discovered that some water had mysteriously appeared in the empty cup. And all of this happened right under his nose.
“Mr. Ron, you can call me Madam Mercury,” the woman said with a smile.
She is mercury than another one is venus ?
