Chapter 14: In a world where only Leon got injured
This seaside trip could basically be considered a perfect conclusion.
Everyone in the Melkvi family gained something.
Little Light improved his proficiency with the ‘uppercut’;
Muen unlocked the ‘kids shouldn’t watch’ scene of their parents kissing;
Noia also regained confidence in this family and became more assured of the love between her parents.
Even Rosvitha harvested a night of thorough “emergency drainage”—and the harvest was so abundant, it was almost overflowing.
As for why it’s said to be “basically a perfect conclusion” rather than “completely perfect,” the issue lies with General Lei.
Little Light improved his uppercut proficiency by practicing on him;
Muen unlocked the kissing scene at the cost of being kicked by Rosvitha;
Noia’s confidence in the family came from her dad’s willingness to sacrifice his “waist” for righteousness.
As for Rosvitha, it goes without saying—the exhilarating “night of rescue” left behind pain that only Leon and his waist knew.
Thus, only Leon Casmode’s world of pain was achieved!
But even so, when everything was settled, Leon stood at the open door of the hotel, looking at his fake wife and real daughter, his heart still brimming with warmth and contentment.
After all, the laughter and memories shared among family members are precious and cannot be erased by any small hardship—besides, he’s used to those hardships anyway, and he could always eat more Dragon Vitality to make up for it.
Then he could show that mother dragon who’s boss again.
Speaking of Dragon Vitality, the final result of the first refining wasn’t very successful. Although Leon’s body functions recovered well that night, he went completely wild and out of control.
Looks like there’s still room for improvement when there’s time, Leon thought silently.
After all, with his current lack of magical power and the Mother Dragon coming up with new ways to use Dragon Markings, Leon can only make adjustments in his “equipment.”
Otherwise, three months later, when he goes to the caves to exchange information, he’ll surely be mercilessly mocked by that old geezer and the venomous-tongued brat.
Leaving the resort area, they returned to the Silver Dragon’s territory in the evening of the same day. Taking their time along the way, enjoying the scenery, it served as the concluding part of this vacation.
During this seaside trip, Leon achieved his initial goal, which was to ease his eldest daughter’s worried heart a bit. He wanted to prove to her, through his and Rosvitha’s actions, that they love this family and each other.
Though in their daily lives, Leon and Rosvitha always seem at odds. He says one thing, and she insists on another; he goes west, and she insists on going east. After all, the tone of their married life is “if you’re uncomfortable, then I’m comfortable.”
But when it comes to showing affection in front of their daughters, they have always been in sync. It seems to be innate, almost like it’s ingrained in their bones. At first, they used to rehearse before each occasion, making sure their lovey-dovey actions wouldn’t be detected by their daughters.
But as time went by, this pair of unfortunate spouses no longer needed any rehearsals. They could just go on stage without any problems, knowing what the other was thinking with just a glance and what to do next.
That’s the self-discipline of seasoned actors.
Rosvitha occasionally reflects on this, saying, “Life is like a drama, it all depends on acting skills—”
What?
Feelings?
Where did those come from?
“I don’t have any feelings for that dog. Our perfect coordination is simply due to familiarity breeding skill—ugh, what am I saying—familiarity breeding skill, yes…that’s it…skillful cooperation! Yeah, that’s right, skillful cooperation.”
“Mom.”
“Hmm?”
“Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, why’d you ask?”
“Your wings seem to be turning a bit red.” Muen sat on the back of the silver dragon, looking at its wings from the side.
In her words, Leon and Noia also looked at Rosvitha’s wings. Indeed, they were a bit reddish.
“Ah… it’s, it’s nothing, probably just the angle of the sunlight.”
Since the daughters hadn’t reached the age where they could transform into dragon form, they didn’t know that any emotional fluctuations would affect parts of the dragon’s body with many blood vessels, like the wings, in dragon form. It’s similar to blushing in human form.
But Leon had been dealing with dragons for so many years, so he definitely knew about this physiological phenomenon among dragons. When he used to march and fight with them, during the final battles with the dragon kings, they would unleash their anger in dragon form before being defeated. In that state, regardless of their original color, their wings would turn somewhat reddish.
However, those dragon kings changed color because they couldn’t beat General Lei, so they turned red with anger before being defeated. But Rosvitha hadn’t been breached, so why was she turning red…
Leon was momentarily puzzled, silently musing to himself about how difficult it is to understand a woman’s thoughts.
As they entered the Silver Dragon’s territory, they quickly returned to the temple. Upon the queen’s family’s return, the maids who weren’t currently working naturally came to the front yard to greet them.
Anna took a bag from Leon, containing their clothes for the past few days of vacation, and promptly handed it to a maid nearby, instructing her to wash them.
Of course, there wasn’t Rosvitha’s swimsuit used for the “emergency” because that night the couple had gotten too carried away, accidentally getting some “water” on it, so Rosvitha felt it was better to wash it herself—or perhaps make the captive Casmode wash it.
Furthermore, the Silver Dragon Queen’s image in front of the maids was that of a conservative, aloof workaholic. Even though she was married, she still treated the prince with utmost respect. Their occasional affectionate displays were always very moderate, giving everyone the impression that they were a loving couple but not too familiar with each other.
And if it were discovered by their subordinates that the queen actually had another side unknown to them when she was with the prince… Rosvitha would practically be dead—socially dead.
After a brief exchange, Anna led the queen’s family to the dining hall where the chefs had already prepared a feast to wash off the dust of travel.
At the dinner table, the two daughters who could talk were discussing the seaside trip with great enthusiasm, while the daughter who couldn’t talk could only eat silently.
The couple leisurely dined, occasionally glancing at their daughters. Suddenly, they would glance at each other, then quickly avert their eyes. It gave off the vibe of “looking at you will bring bad luck for eight lifetimes.”
But not long after, the unfortunate in-laws would inexplicably yet mutually understand each other’s gaze.
Sigh.
Oh well, this karmic fate can’t be avoided, so they can only choose to comply.
After dinner, after playing with their daughters for a while, Leon carried Little Light and returned to the room with Rosvitha.
“When Little Light is a little older, we can let her sleep in the nursery herself.”
As they entered the room, Rosvitha said while taking off her high heels, eagerly putting on her comfortable and soft dragon wing slippers, then stretching lazily.
Leon’s steps halted.
Hiss…
Why does that sound like there’s an ulterior motive?
Once Little Light goes to sleep in the nursery, wouldn’t it be just the two of them left in this room?
Then wouldn’t she be able to continue doing as she pleases?!
Leon couldn’t help but feel a chill down his spine, swallowing hard, he didn’t continue with this topic.
He gently placed his youngest daughter on the bed, soothing her to sleep.
Looking at her peaceful sleeping face, a slight smile couldn’t help but tug at the corners of Leon’s mouth.
So this is what it feels like to experience the joys of raising a child, it’s wonderful!
He reached out, using the broad back of his hand to gently stroke Little Light’s chubby cheek, soft and smooth, the feeling was amazing.
But unfortunately, he didn’t get to see Noia and Muen during their baby days, they must have been adorable too.
Speaking of Noia…
Since their eldest daughter’s emotional issues were temporarily resolved, Leon now needed to get down to business. In three months, he would go to the mountain cave to exchange intelligence with his master.
He tucked Little Light in, then sat by the bed and looked up at Rosvitha. She had already changed into a nightgown and was sitting on the sofa, reviewing the work logs Anna had delivered from the past few days.
“Rosvitha, I have a question for you. I’d like to hear your thoughts.”
The queen put down the work logs, rested her chin on one hand, and looked up at Leon. “Hmm, alright, what’s the question?”
“Don’t you think it was a bit of a coincidence that Constantine chose to attack right when you were about to give birth?”
A traitor in the ranks! A sad but common thing
