Chapter 11: Lack of Scientific Basis for This Training
Ron reclined on the bed and quickly drifted into slumber. He was utterly fatigued, his eyelids engaged in a skirmish. In a mere day, more unfolded than during his days wandering in the alternate world.
Yet, Ron’s plunge into darkness was brief. Soon, a voice reached him. Simultaneously, a ponderous bell tolled in his ears, its resonance reaching from eardrums to heart.
“Welcome to the Dual-Color Realm, Ron,” a man in a tech-themed leather robe stood before him.
A mask on his face, a slit at its center, emitted a futuristic vibe with mechanical edges.
Compared to the mask, his robe seemed rather plain.
“Who are you?” Ron inquired instinctively.
“I am the one who brought you to this world,” the man turned, “You can also call me the Decemvir.”
“You might find the title confusing, but it’s because ten individuals are inside my body,” he added deliberately.
“I’m not that curious about your title either,” Ron quipped.
The Decemvir gestured dismissively, hinting at Ron’s naivety.
“Just as you must be confused about your situation,” he said, “Unfortunately, due to many factors, I won’t tell you too much.”
Ron wore a puzzled expression. The Decemvir seemed to revel in being an enigma-maker, unapologetically so.
“But I can tell you one principle of this system’s operation,” he said, gradually fading away, “The principle that makes you stronger is ‘parallel possibilities.'”
“How strong you can become depends on how many of those billions of possibilities you can access,” he said softly.
“It’s like a stone that, in a certain parallel possibility, could be a diamond.”
“Then, I’ll leave everything to the system,” he said before vanishing.
“Wait a moment!” Ron attempted to call out, but the system’s voice promptly followed.
[System reminder: Your current combat capability is too low; the current mission is likely impossible to complete.]. [Currently detecting… Detected that you have activated the enhancement training program…]. [To ensure you have the foundation to complete the mission, the system will conduct enhancement training.].“Enhancement training?” Ron was momentarily stunned, not fully grasping what would happen next.
After all, in Ron’s view, having control of the system made getting stronger quite simple.
Even though Ron didn’t understand what the Decemvir meant by “parallel possibilities,” as long as he completed the mission, he could effortlessly increase his strength.
[Next, you will undergo training in the current independent space.]. [Time in the independent space is separate; all training will be completed during your sleep, so there’s no need to worry about delaying anything outside the world.]. [Next, the countdown begins: 3, 2, 1!]. [Training Name: Warrior’s Introduction]. [Your physical fitness in the Dual-Color Realm is far below average and needs urgent improvement.]. [Training regimen: Complete 10,000 push-ups under magical bombardment (0/10,000), 10,000 squats (0/10,000), 10,000 sit-ups (0/10,000)]. [Failure penalty: None, but the inability to complete results in the inability to leave.].Ron waved his hand dismissively, convinced the system must have encountered a bug. “Are you kidding me? This is just physical training! And it’s 10,000 times! That’s impossible! It’s lethal!”
With just a moment’s thought, it was clear that this was impossible for him. He might end up with muscles dissolving if he attempted it. But the next moment, his entire body convulsed as if electrified, followed by meteor-like fireballs raining down. It was only now that Ron understood the true meaning of magical bombardment—it meant to kill him.
A massive dragon soared through the sky, heedlessly casting numerous spells. Meteors, storms, lightning—Ron had never seen so many special effects.
“This is useless even if completed!” Ron hurriedly exclaimed, “It lacks scientific basis!”
Yes, this kind of training built upon quantity had no meaning. Building muscles didn’t happen in a day, especially when he dreamt. But the system’s subsequent words sent shivers down Ron’s spine.
[System reminder: This is not a dream.]. [The injuries you sustain here are real; if you don’t value your life, you will indeed die.].Meanwhile, the magical bombardment around him continued, seemingly aimed at killing Ron.
Ron awkwardly dodged the relentless bombardment and then, by chance, spotted numerous gravestones nearby. Each simple gravestone bore a name and an epitaph.
It was like a… cemetery of chaos.
After seeing these graves scattered across the blank world, Ron instinctively asked, “Am I the hundredth transmigrant?”
“Yes, you are the hundredth transmigrant.”
“What happened to the previous ninety-nine transmigrants?” Ron asked, dazed.
“All the transmigrants before you have died.”
The system’s voice spoke coldly, revealing a brutal truth—those graves Ron saw were of those transmigrants.
“All of them are dead?” Ron muttered, hearing the roaring sounds around him, perhaps understanding why they all perished.
If all the training the system described was like this, he felt that no transmigrant could survive.
He thought the previous migrants had succeeded and made a name for themselves in this new world. However, it was very likely that those migrants had died in the system’s training before achieving anything noteworthy.
“Stop! I don’t want to enhance anymore!” No matter what, Ron didn’t want to become one of those gravestones.
When he first got this system, he was full of expectations, being a young person who had consumed plenty of passionate stories. This was supposed to be the strongest existence on Earth, the title itself inspiring fervor.
However, if you were to ask Ron how he felt now, he’d probably just say, “Whoever wants this blasted system can have it.”
[System reminder: Failure to complete the training tasks will prevent you from leaving.].Ron gritted his teeth and performed a push-up in place. Then, he watched that 0/10,000 jump to 1/10,000.
Absurd, utterly absurd. Ron felt like he had never encountered anything more ludicrous in his life. From that single moment, he had realized something crucial. It dawned on him that this system wasn’t one to make him the strongest being on Earth but one pushing him toward a dead end.
Considering the seemingly amusing task of “challenging a dragon” earlier, he realized he would likely mentally battle this system in the days ahead.
