Chapter 22: Which version of yourself are you resonating with?
Ron always thought time travelers should establish themselves as heroes. He once claimed that the essence of numerous great deeds lies in encounters with charming girls. In reality, he desires something else—like a child using a branch as a sword or treating a band-aid as a medal. Despite shrinking dreams and enthusiasm being extinguished, Ron lives happily in this dual-colored world.
After saving something or helping, others still label you hypocritical. We’re not holy warriors, not striving for hero status through good deeds. Whether one has good intentions or not is not worth fussing about. Ron wonders why this dual-colored world is so unfriendly to him.
[Warning: the offspring of the evil god has grown to the second stage.].
[System can’t provide a second survival service for time travelers; your chance of survival is 13%.].However, as the strongest entity on future Earth, the system advised battling the evil god’s offspring. The system defaulted to give up on this time traveler and proposed mutual destruction.
When Ron dies, and the system disconnects, the impact kills the evil god’s offspring.
The system exists to cultivate time travelers capable of killing outer gods. If cultivation is hopeless, the optimal choice is inflicting maximum damage to the outer god.
Despite being hit, Ron heard the system’s warnings in his mind.
The system’s words didn’t surprise Ron. It’s chaotic.
What surprised him more was surviving Adrian’s brute force. He understood the meaning behind the system’s passage about warriors. He took the ingrained combat experience for granted, making him feel unaware of his growth.
Thinking seriously, he shouldn’t have had this combat experience. As the sound of ice breaking continued, Ron became more clear-headed. Usually, he didn’t think about endless things like this, only when confused. It was like people getting emotional in the late hours of the night.
[Task system update.]. [Task Name: Brave Battle]. [You are now facing a life-threatening crisis but are the strongest entity on future Earth. You cannot retreat here; even if you die, you must go down fighting.]. [Task Content: Kill the offspring of the evil god (0/12)]. [Completion Reward: The system will enhance your physical abilities.].The system suddenly assigned a task that practically instructed Ron to face imminent danger. Ron felt the back of his head, discovering it was covered in blood, still warm to the touch. He witnessed various illusions, replaying scenes that had occurred several times recently: glimpses of other people’s conversations or his own choices seconds into the future, all seemingly unrelated to the present.
These illusions, intertwined with numerous voices, made it challenging for him to discern specific details. Some illusions depicted him recklessly confronting Adrian, while others showed him desperately escaping or helplessly kneeling.
Too many possibilities left him unsure of which was right—maybe each one was correct.
[Again, we remind you to stop irregular parallel resonance. You cannot bear the second possibility.]. [Please, time traveler, cherish your life. Don’t engage in self-destructive actions.].Parallel possibilities were serious. Careless resonance could bring disaster. It affected not just the time traveler but also those around them. Because Ron resonated not as a warrior but with something else.
Without the system of the Ten Sages, this resonance was uncontrollable, and Ron had been resonating since entering the town. However, Ron disregarded the system’s warning, staring at the unfolding illusions.
For him, the world freezes at this moment, even the mid-air snowflakes standing still.
“Save this world? No, you should add another strong poison to this world that is already terminally ill.”
Ron heard a voice identical to his own but with a tone of malice, anger, and cunning.
As the voice faded, the world returned to normal. Ron extended his hands, feeling like he should be holding a large sword. Yet, he only grasped empty air, no weapon in sight.
In the next moment, he reached out towards the nearby Adrian.
Not having a weapon doesn’t matter. He knows what to do next.
By the time Adrian realized, Ron had firmly seized his right arm.
Adrian silently delivered a powerful punch, attempting to send Ron back against the wall. This punch was stronger than before. It wouldn’t be surprising if Ron is killed on the spot if it lands.
Even so, Ron had a foreboding feeling. While Adrian wondered why he felt this way, a sharp pain emanated from his chest. Ron forcefully thrusts his hand into the mouth of the evil god within Adrian’s chest, ignoring the potential consequences.
“Let go,” Adrian calmly said, anger hidden beneath.
He punched Ron repeatedly, aiming to make him retract his hand. Sparks fly, flames rise, and a normal person would have been burned and crushed. Despite being battered, Ron showed no intention of letting go. The ominous premonition intensified, telling Adrian that he must make Ron retract his hand.
“Let go!!!” This is the first time since Adrian’s unsealing that he speaks with such a panicked tone.
