Chapter 29: Deceit and Stratagem
“Miss Mercury, do you still recall the origin of the name ‘Bicolor Realm’?”
A small and exquisite white dragon gracefully moved above a teacup in that familiar study.
“Why bring this up now?” Miss Mercury glanced at the white dragon.
“Just feeling a bit nostalgic,” he said, glancing at the night outside.
“At the beginning, this world had only two colors, black or white,” he continued. “Black represents chaos, white represents truth.”
“Now we’ve lost the white. The world is in darkness,” Miss Mercury calmly stated. “The Ring of Truth shattered, unavoidable.”
“Vandal, the first Outer God in the Bicolor Realm, shattered the Ring of Truth,” the white dragon said. “Without him, this place wouldn’t be like this.”
Miss Mercury remained calm, having heard this story many times.
“This time, your idea is a bit extreme,” the white dragon complained about the dangerous mission.
“Everwinter Town hides many evil gods; not many come out alive,” Miss Mercury added.
Before the white dragon could say more, Miss Mercury hushed it.
“Our esteemed guest is coming,” she tapped the water glass, and a vortex appeared.
The white dragon was sucked in, disappearing.
A door appeared on Miss Mercury’s chair, and she gestured for silence. The door slowly opened, and Ron, recently sent to Everwinter Town, entered. Lilian and Moluna followed.
Lilian bowed, and Moluna looked indifferent.
“Looks like you successfully completed the task,” Miss Mercury smiled.
Ron raised an eyebrow, mentioning his near-death experience.
“I expected results in about two months, but it’s only been four days since you went to my territory,” Miss Mercury said, surprised by Ron’s swift report.
“Now, Mr. Ron, who is the culprit behind freezing my territory?” She asked. She knew Wudong Town caused the freezing but didn’t know who specifically.
“The mayor of Wudong Town wanted to freeze the town, and other parts of your territory were likely affected,” Ron honestly stated.
“Where is that mayor now?” Miss Mercury interlocked her fingers and looked at Ron with the gaze of someone in authority.
“He’s dead. I buried him,” Ron said without intending to lie.
Miss Mercury scrutinized Ron, “In that case, many things are just your word, Mr. Ron.”
“I knew something like this would happen,” Ron said impatiently as he threw the torn scroll to Miss Mercury.
Although it was once crumpled into a ball, its runes were still quite clear when unfolded.
After Ron had slightly embellished the events in Wudong Town, he recounted them to Miss Mercury. He omitted the parts about the mayor’s lies and the images, exaggerating the scenes of his battle with the evil spirits.
While narrating these events, he was eloquent and almost moved himself — as for telling the whole truth, only a fool would do that. But regardless of how much of what Ron said was true, it didn’t matter anymore.
When Miss Mercury saw this scroll from the Mage Tower, she instantly showed a satisfied smile, “I see. I misunderstood you.”
However, she felt no remorse for her attitude just now, “This is unavoidable. After all, I am giving you a territory. If you don’t truly complete my task, I cannot give it to you.”
“Lilian, is what Mr. Ron said is true?” Miss Mercury glanced at Lilian.
“Mr. Ron is telling the truth,” Lilian, not understanding why Miss Mercury, who could read minds, still asked her, answered, “He came back at that time with many wounds, and there were also many corpses in Wudong Town.”
The reason why Miss Mercury would ask this was very simple. She had found that her mind-reading ability had weakened a lot in front of Ron.
“To freeze the town to prevent someone from descending into madness, although such behavior is a bit extreme, I can understand him,” Miss Mercury nodded, “I won’t pursue his family.”
“It’s no use trying to pursue it. They should be all dead,” Ron said indifferently.
Miss Mercury was momentarily stunned, then said, “Is that so? That’s truly pitiable.”
As she spoke, her gaze focused on Ron’s left hand, “Mr. Ron, when did you get a tattoo on your left hand?”
The interwoven deep black patterns were impossible to ignore.
“I don’t know either. I woke up, and there it was,” Ron lied without batting an eyelid. Since everyone was deceiving him, he saw no harm in joining the deception.
“Woke up, and there it was? That’s truly magical,” Miss Mercury’s mouth curved into a smile.
