Chapter 1: Buried Alive in the Plains
The Buried-Alive Plain was situated on the border of the Norman Empire. It earned its ominous name due to five major battles that took place there.
Countless warriors rest beneath the seemingly lush grass. Their exact number was unimaginable. Travelers might encounter undead-like creatures on the Buried-Alive Plain, especially at night. As no country governed this area, it functioned as a neutral zone, albeit uninhabited, as a dangerous trade route.
“Most people avoid the Buried-Alive Plain due to its ominous reputation,” remarked the carriage driver.
“I’m offering you a ride out of kindness.”
“No extra charge,” Ron declared from the carriage’s rear.
Ron paid for the carriage with his remaining funds, now penniless. It had been nearly a week since Lilian, Ron, and Moluna escaped from the city. They found a carriage willing to take them away at the Vandar Sanctus Empire’s border, making the challenging journey worthwhile. Although costly, the carriage ride was their only option to reach the Burial Plains. The coachman knew a safe route, allowing him to transport passengers to the perilous Buried-Alive Plain.
“Considering you can afford maids, a small tip won’t hurt,” the coachman remarked, eyeing Ron disdainfully.
Without a guide, travellers risk stumbling into areas with the living dead at night.
“After I reach my estate, there will be a generous reward,” Ron assured, wary of being stranded in the Burial Plains.
“An estate?” The driver became intrigued. “You’re a noble with your own estate?”
“That’s right,” Ron admitted, feeling a bit embarrassed.
In this Bi-colored Realm, he finally held a position of prominence. Ron eagerly anticipated reaching his estate and becoming a rogue lord.
“How far are we from Windbird Town?” Ron casually inquired.
“If the map is accurate, not far at all,” the driver replied. “We’ll be there in no time.”
“Don’t use exaggerated metaphors,” Ron warned, peering into the distance.
Currently unable to see any signs of a town, a nearby forest stood out. With time on the carriage, Ron began studying his system.
“Now that we have some leisure, let’s claim our rewards,” Ron told the system.
【Task system update.】
【Task Name: Becoming a Lord Starting Today】
【As the future strongest being on the surface, how can you not have your own territory? This territory is from Lady Mercury, and I’m sure you’re determined to get it.】
【Task Content: Find the mastermind of the Frozen Village (√)】
Reward for completion: The system has carefully prepared a weapon for you.
You have completed the task, and the reward is being distributed…
Question: What type of weapon would you like?
“What type of weapon?” Ron pondered for a moment and said, “I’ll take a greatsword.”
When he resonated with <The Deceased> before, he strongly wanted to use a greatsword.
[The weapon has been saved to the system, and you can retrieve it anytime.]After the system’s voice fell, a model suddenly appeared in his mind.
It was a greatsword with patterns that bloomed like stars, a dark gray blade, and noble silver-white patterns. Moreover, the craftsman who forged this greatsword deliberately used acid etching to carve a picture on the blade.
In the picture was a damaged demon, and the wing pattern of that demon extended all the way and ultimately fell onto the hilt. The intricate relief on the hilt told others that this was a work of art. But it was not just a work of art. The aura of solemn killing emanating from it indicated that it had not only cut down one enemy.
【Item: Ash of the Furnace】
【This weapon is forged from metals around the Furnace of Myriad Realms. The original intention was to create a shape-shifting weapon, but the final product cannot transform and takes the form of a greatsword.】
Although it couldn’t transform, the greatsword had gained the ability to prevent enemies from regenerating, and the user could resist flames to some extent.
“Cool.” It has to be said that this greatsword suited his taste, and his spirit of chuunibyou is already stirring.
However, he looked around and felt that extracting this greatsword from someone else’s carriage might not be appropriate.
Forget it, he thought. I’ll wait until I settle in his territory before taking it out to avoid startling others.
“There’s another task,” Ron reminded the system, “don’t be careless with me.”
He vividly remembered that the system once gave him a task that was almost equivalent to sending him to his death in a critical situation. The system didn’t expect Ron to survive and exceed in completing the task.
Dear time traveller, the system will not overlook your task rewards. Please rest assured.
Task Name: Brave Battle
Task Content: Kill the offspring of the evil god (23/12)
You have completed the task, and the reward is being distributed…
Body enhancement elixir has been saved to the system, and you can extract it anytime. While weapons may be inconvenient to extract, potions are another matter.
As Ron was thinking this, the elixir suddenly appeared in his hand, startling even himself. He glanced at Moluna and Lilian, making sure they were both resting with closed eyes before sighing with relief.
【Item: Body Enhancement Elixir】
【This is a product of an advanced warrior mass production program. Drinking it can easily enhance the body’s qualities.】
As the plan’s core, the elixir’s only side effect was its unpleasant taste, and its strengthening effect couldn’t be applied multiple times on an individual. However, the mass production plan failed due to the expensive materials, and the effect did not meet expectations. Afterwards, the elixir was monopolised by a certain family and became an internal potion for family use.
“The background is quite impressive,” Ron muttered to himself.
The fact that there was a plan for mass-producing warriors surprised Ron. The concept was too advanced, and he even suspected the Bi-colored Realm might have a cloning program.
“As expected, it’s unpleasant.” Ron opened the bottle and took a sip, almost spitting it out.
This taste is like soap mixed with cow tripe, with a hint of licorice juice. This is weird enough to be called the only side effect. After drinking, whether it’s an illusion or not, he feels his muscles bulging.
“Effective?” Ron was also a bit uncertain.
”The elixir takes a week to digest, and your body will gradually become stronger. Please trust the quality of the system’s product.”
Ron snorted. Forget about the quality of the product; he didn’t even trust the entire system.
“I’ve finally claimed all the rewards,” Ron stretched lazily.
Unfortunately, these things were lacking, and he didn’t feel much of a sense of accomplishment.
He thought he could rise to the top in one go, but now it seems he was expecting too much.
