Chapter 73: I swear by my love for donkeys (Part 2)

Aurora patted her father on the shoulder and said earnestly, “Dad, I’ve told you, your pickup lines are terrible. ‘I think I’ve seen you somewhere before’ is such a clown move!”

Leon shook his head, “No, I’m serious. I feel like I’ve seen this Claudia before. I’m certain I’ve seen her face somewhere… but I just can’t remember—ugh, this is frustrating.”

That feeling was truly aggravating.

It was like a line popping into your head, like “the Wumeng Mountains stretch beyond the horizon,” but no matter what, you couldn’t remember the next part of the lyrics.

Ugh—so annoying!

“If you can’t remember,  just don’t think about it for now.”

Aurora said, “You mentioned earlier that you’ve only opened five gates? Come on, I’ll help you open the rest, so when you go back to your original timeline, you can obliterate those Dragon Kings who hurt Mom!”

Her words hit straight to the heart of Leon’s fatherly instincts.

I swear on my trusty steed, every dragon who ever harmed Rosvitha Merkwitz will die!

Aurora’s proficiency with the Gate of Nine Hells was indeed impressive.

With just a few words, she cleared up some of the issues Leon had encountered during his practice.

After imparting a few techniques to her father, the two of them sparred for a bit.

As expected, General Leon, now barely hanging on, was easily defeated by his youngest daughter.

And with that, the second dragon to defeat Leon Casmoday appeared.

What?

Who was the first?

The first was Rosvitha.

This story teaches us that the invincible Family Knight can only be beaten by his own family!

After the sparring session, Leon lay sprawled out on the soft grass, arms and legs stretched out in a “大” shape. Even a simple spar like this placed a heavy burden on his weak and exhausted body.

Aurora, hands in the pockets of her white coat, walked over to her dad.

“Mom said, ‘As long as you can beat your father, you can walk sideways on this continent.’ Round it up, and that makes me invincible now, doesn’t it?”

Leon snickered and sat up.

Aurora squatted down and sat beside her dad.

Her sitting posture was just like Rosvitha’s:

Slightly bent knees, arms wrapped around her legs, and her chin gently resting on her knees.

She looked just like a well-behaved little cat.

After sitting down, Aurora pulled out the photograph she had shown Leon earlier from the pocket of her white coat.

In the picture, Claudia was teaching Noa illusion magic.

Leon’s eyes fell on the photo, and he asked, “When did Claudia leave?”

“About… five years ago, I think.”

Aurora said, “When she left, it didn’t seem… pleasant.”

“Not pleasant? What do you mean?”

“That day, she was teaching us a new magic. Given the pace of the lessons, she should’ve stayed with us for at least another half month.”

Aurora looked down at the photo, slowly recounting the memories from the past. “But during the lesson, she suddenly saw someone and hurriedly ran over to that person. They hid behind some bushes and seemed to be arguing.”

“About ten minutes later, Claudia came back. She said that our master-disciple relationship with her was over, that we now had enough power to protect ourselves, and from that day forward, we weren’t to mention that Claudia Poseidon had ever been here.”

“After giving us those instructions, she left.”

Leon’s thoughts stirred. “Saw someone… and argued?”

Aurora nodded. “Yes.”

“Did you see who it was?”

“No, but from the voice, I could tell it was also a woman, not young, around Claudia’s age.”

Leon scratched his head, having no idea what to make of it.

He didn’t know much about Claudia to begin with, and now, there was another woman who had argued with her. Leon was completely at a loss.

When Rosvitha first mentioned the Sea Dragons to him, her words made it clear that the Silver Dragon clan had no diplomatic relations with them.

Yet Claudia had not only helped them in their darkest hour but according to Aurora, she had even been their teacher for a long time.

Why did she come? What was her purpose?  

And her sudden departure—was it because of some unspeakable reason, or was there something else going on?

Can’t figure it out.  

It just didn’t make any sense.  

Leon sighed, not wanting to dwell on this unsolvable mystery anymore.

“Dad.”

“Hm?”

“I have a bold theory.”

Leon raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Let’s hear it.”

“That Claudia might have been infatuated with your handsome looks for many years. After learning you were in trouble, she decided to help our family through the crisis.”

“After accomplishing her mission, she quietly left, hiding her accomplishments and fame.”

“Ah! Such a touching, unspoken crush. When Mom wakes up, I have to tell her this—ow! That hurts!”

Leon flicked his daughter on the back of the head.

“As for your bold theory, I have a small suggestion: check your dad’s resume more thoroughly. I never even set foot on Sea Dragon territory, let alone met this Claudia. Where’s the secret crush coming from?” Leon said.

Aurora rubbed her aching head. “So, you’re denying everything I just said?”

Leon spread his hands. “What else am I supposed to do?”

“Including the ‘handsome’ part?”

“That part can stay.”

Leon let out a breath and then said, “And you also mentioned that Claudia isn’t exactly young. Honestly, even when your mom married me, by human standards, it was already a bit of an older woman-younger-man situation. Now you want to set me up with someone even older?”

Rosvitha was over two hundred years old, while General Leon was in his twenties.

Putting it nicely, the queen was an “older woman with a younger man”;

If you put it bluntly—Whoa, Queen, you’re also into…?!

“Age doesn’t matter among dragons. It’s common for dragons who are hundreds of years apart in age to pair up.”

Aurora seriously explained to her dad, “But since you’re human, naturally, you can’t be compared the same way.”

She pushed her glasses up her nose—another of her habitual gestures.

People who wear glasses often seem to have this habit.
