Chapter 35: What Does Elegance Have to Do with This Guy? ( Part 2 )
The air grew cooler, León took off his coat and draped it over Loisver’s shoulders, “Shall we head back?”
“Mm.”
She turned around and looked at Isa and Grandma Veronica, “Sis, Grandma, León and I will go back first, you all get some rest.”
“Goodnight, little Lois.” Isa waved her hand.
Grandma nodded.
The couple left the rooftop.
Isa’s gaze followed them until they disappeared down the stairs, then she turned her eyes away.
“Ah,” Red Dragon Queen sighed.
Grandma Veronica looked at her granddaughter, “What’s wrong?”
Isa took out the list from her pocket and crossed off ‘Fenwolf Tribe,’ “Garuda, Thunder Elves, Fenwolf, and Mamba are out. Now, only—”
“Isa.” Grandma interrupted her.
“Mm?”
“Have you thought about what we should do if we find out León isn’t actually from the Dragon race?”
Isa blinked and seriously considered her grandmother’s question.
After a while, she shook her head, “I haven’t figured it out.”
Then she smiled, slightly tilting her mouth, looking down at the list in her hands,
“Anyway, it was just a little meaningless game, I’m just having fun.”
Grandma Veronica smiled with relief, “But even if you keep investigating, I don’t think you’ll find anything.”
“Eh? Why?”
“The last one left is ‘humans,’ but do you know any distinct traits or habits of this species?”
Isa shook her head, “No. It’s strange, this species of humans… seems like the most primitive species. Of course, I don’t mean ‘primitive’ as in ‘backward,’ but they possess extreme plasticity.”
“They can learn magic from all the other races, they don’t have strengths but no glaring weaknesses either.”
“If I had to say something, they don’t need to learn shapeshifting magic, since on Samayel, the end of all shapeshifting magic leads to the human form.”
Grandma Veronica nodded slightly, “Actually, I’ve studied this species for many years. Besides the extreme plasticity you mentioned, I found something very interesting.”
“What’s that?”
“Humans… sometimes inexplicably possess the most resilient willpower in the world.”
Such high praise made Isa curious, “What do you mean by that?”
“You see, humans only live for a hundred years, yet they continue to expand, learn, and explore in this short time.”
“And then they pass on the results of these hundred years to the next generation.”
“They grow slowly through life and death, no matter how difficult the process is, and the succession has never been broken.”
“‘Continuous succession’ is just one manifestation of their strong will. There are other aspects too, such as survival, expanding territories—of course, sometimes driven by desire.”
“But… without desire, wouldn’t they stagnate?”
Listening to her grandmother’s words, Isa nodded thoughtfully.
The Dragon-Human war had lasted nearly a hundred years, and her understanding of humans had always remained at the level of “enemy,” never delving deeply into their nature.
Her grandmother’s words truly allowed her to understand this species from a new perspective.
Isa took the list and slowly set it on fire with dragon flame, burning it into ashes.
The ashes scattered in the evening breeze, slowly disappearing into the wind.
“Grandma, thank you for spending the whole day with me, even though in the end, I still didn’t find out my brother-in-law’s
bloodline.”
Grandma smiled gently, “It’s nothing. But next time, if something like this comes up, make sure to call me again.”
Isa grinned, hugging her grandmother’s shoulder, walking toward the stairs with her, “I didn’t expect you, Grandma, to be so nosy even at your age. You’re over three hundred years old and still so gossiping.”
“Is it only allowed for you youngsters to gossip?”
“No, no. But next time, I might be investigating something else.”
“Investigating what?”
“Little Lois and her brother-in-law’s third child… or something~”
Grandmother and granddaughter left the rooftop, and silence fell.
A piece of paper, still partially burning, slowly floated from the air. Its edges still flickering with sparks.
The sparks burned with all their might and, just before going out, consumed the word “human” without a trace.
…
Half a month later, the new term’s Young Dragon entrance exam at Saint Hiss Academy was held as scheduled.
Coincidentally, it was on a Monday, making it perfect for also sending Noia back to school.
After arriving at the academy, the family split at the entrance of the teaching building.
“Don’t be nervous during the exam. Believe in yourselves, and trust in your dad. You can definitely pass,” Noia, as the eldest, earnestly reminded her two younger sisters before they parted.
The two little ones nodded repeatedly and expressed confidence in this test.
The school bell rang shortly after, and although Noia had many more words to say, she had to quickly finish, waving her hand as she ran toward her class.
After saying goodbye to Noia, León and Loisver, along with Mu’en and Guang, went to the third floor, where the entrance exam registration was held.
However, as soon as they entered the building, they were met by none other than Vice-Principal Wilson.
“I’ve heard from the academic office teachers that the Melkwei family would be signing up for this year’s Young Dragon entrance exam, but I didn’t expect it to be true!”
Vice-Principal Wilson’s eyes lit up, like a sailor discovering a new continent.
Before the actual entrance exam registration, there was a preliminary coordination to estimate the number of participants and arrange appropriate staff.
Naturally, the Melkwei family had signed up for this preliminary coordination.
They had assumed it was just a simple task to cooperate with the academy.
But they didn’t expect that the vice-principal would pay such close attention to it. It was hard not to suspect he had specifically told the staff to report to him immediately if anyone from the Melkwei family registered.
