Chapter 40: Champagne Again! (3K) ( Part 1 )
One evening after the entrance test ended, the Melkwei family received their admission letter from Saint Hiss Academy.
For this:
- Noya was happy because her younger sisters would now receive a better and more comprehensive education.
- Mu’en was happy because once school started, she could keep a close watch on her sister and make sure she wasn’t taken away by some little female dragon.
- Xiao Guang was happy because she would be going to a bigger ocean of fun, where she could swim freely.
- The couple was happy because now the children were going away, and they could secretly plan for a third child (crossed out).
In short, a month of intensive study had been quite effective, and both daughters had successfully passed the entrance test.
The exact scores would be revealed three days later during the enrollment ceremony.
However, Leon and his wife were very “confident” in their results, believing that a middle-tier score would not be a problem.
Thus, this year’s model family title had nothing to do with them, and they could finally avoid the awkwardness of the ceremony speech.
In fact, both of them—one being the Queen of Silver Dragons and the other a former leader of the Dragon-slaying Army—were public figures who were used to being in the spotlight. Speaking in front of so many people was not an issue for them. But they were afraid that Vice Principal Wilson might come up with something new.
Looking at how crazy the head of the CP (Couple Pairing) was, it seemed that a public kiss might not satisfy him. He was probably thinking of something even more outrageous.
They played a lot privately, but that didn’t mean they wanted to flaunt their affection publicly in front of so many people. It felt awkward.
In the evening, the three children gathered together excitedly to discuss their future lives at school.
The couple stood on the balcony, feeling the cool evening breeze, each raising their glasses, gently clinking them together.
“Cheers. To the success of the anti-social-death plan.”
Roswesser gave a faint smile. “You’re so eager to have a drink with me, even though you rarely drink. Looks like you’re really happy with the plan this time.”
Leon took a sip of his red wine and nodded. “After all, this is the first time we’ve successfully resisted Vice Principal Wilson. Of course it’s worth celebrating.”
Roswesser agreed deeply and clinked her glass with Leon.
After a pause, Roswesser looked at the deep red liquid in her glass, her face reflected on its surface. “But… shouldn’t we have opened the champagne earlier? Every time we’ve opened champagne before, things ended up going wrong…”
Leon waved his hand. “It’s fine. Trust me, based on my many years of experience dealing with dragons, even if we open the champagne in Wilson’s face, we won’t mess it up this time.”
The Queen raised her delicate eyebrow, playing with her wine glass. She then smiled and snickered, “Let’s hope so.”
“Huh? You don’t seem very excited?” Leon asked.
“Eh? What? No, I’m excited.”
Leon’s eyes twitched as if he had realized something. He leaned closer to Roswesser with a mischievous smile. “Actually… you’re really looking forward to us showing affection in front of so many people, aren’t you?”
Hearing this, Roswesser’s face turned pink, and she gently shoved Leon’s shoulder. “W-What? Who would want to show affection with you? Don’t be shameless. And showing affection requires having affection between us, right? Do we have that?”
Leon’s lips almost curled up to the sky, but in the end, he just shrugged and gave in to the “Mother Dragon.”
“Do as you wish.”
“Hmph, childish.”
The Queen flicked her tail and quickly walked off the balcony, her dragon-wing slippers making light tapping sounds.
Leon watched her proud figure with a smile but didn’t chase after her.
He turned, leaned against the balcony railing, and gazed at the distant night sky, softly reflecting, “Humans… dragons… they’re all so contradictory and awkward.”
…
Three days later, the Saint Hiss Academy enrollment ceremony.
In the auditorium, hundreds of dragons, plus one human, quietly waited for the Vice Principal to announce the top three results of the entrance test.
Before that, however, was a long-winded speech.
“Thank you all for choosing Saint Hiss Academy. I am Vice Principal Wilson—”
Below the stage, Leon held Mu’en, Roswesser held Xiao Guang, and the four of them stood in one corner of the crowd.
They had realized ten minutes ago that a family of four, even if they didn’t do anything, would naturally attract most people’s attention.
Helpless, they had to quietly move to the corner and keep a low profile.
“Hey, I wonder who will be the model family this year?”
“I think the kid from the Electric Dragon tribe seems pretty smart. It should be their family’s turn.”
“Mm… Not necessarily. I feel like my kid is smarter than theirs.”
“Tch~”
“Speaking of which, the model family from last year’s enrollment ceremony was pretty impressive. I heard the dragon husband even sang a love song for his wife.”
“Oh, that impressive?”
“Yeah, yeah.”
Leon silently listened to the discussions around him, thinking, Singing? That must have been Vice Principal Wilson’s idea!
As expected, he had guessed right. A public kiss and flaunting affection was no longer enough for that old man.
Last time it was singing. What would it be this time? Dancing? Poetry recitals? Or something else?
No matter what, for him and Roswesser, it would be a hundred times worse in terms of social death.
Just thinking about singing love songs to Roswesser’s face—one so beautifully perfect yet so cold—he almost couldn’t hold it in.
But, of course, he had sung songs and recited poetry to her when she was pregnant with Xiao Guang…
Leon shook his head, clearing his messy thoughts.
