Chapter 17: My loyalty depends on you

“Welcome back, Mr. Ron, Miss Moluna,” Lilian, the town’s mayor, curtseyed towards the two in front of her, lifting her skirt.

When Ron confronted the bandits with the Phylin tribe, Lilian stayed busy tidying up the mayor’s residence, which looked as good as new.

“How did you manage to renovate this house?” Ron couldn’t help but ask.

“Of course, with my diligent hands,” Lilian replied, standing tall. “You can rest assured of staying in the Phylin tribe’s cave. It’s safe for both Miss Moluna and me.”

“I’d like to live here too,” Ron said meekly.

“He also wants to live in a house protected by a dragon rather than in that cramped cave where you have to curl up even to sleep.”

“I also want to live with Mr. Ron,” Moluna raised an eyebrow, pleading.

Lilian first glanced at Moluna and then assessed Ron. “Mr. Ron is certainly welcome to live here.”

Ron was surprised by Lilian’s response. “Really?”

“But do you remember my salary?” She extended her hand adorned with white gloves and inquired.

“Don’t underestimate me; I have money now.” Ron placed a gold coin in Lilian’s palm. “I’ve found a way to get rich, you know.”

After accepting the gold coin, Lilian’s expression remained unchanged. “Mr. Ron, Miss Moluna, I’ve prepared dinner for you. Please, have a seat. I’ll bring it in shortly.”

Ron looked at Lilian strangely, finding her attitude unusually friendly.

Is this the same extremely aggressive maid? The one who claimed to despise humans as part of her character design?

Lilian suddenly turned her head and glanced at Ron. “Mr. Ron, please don’t make such a puzzled expression.”

“As long as you pay my salary, I am your maid, right?” She said casually.

Anyway, she had already decided to serve Ron. It’s just that her loyalty had a tiny issue for now.

“Is it really true?” Ron, having paid the salary, still felt a bit uncertain.

“My loyalty depends on everything you do in the future,” Lilian said impeccably.

Respectful, with a hint of distance and a touch of disdain. “That bearded guy’s lair has been taken down.”

“What does that have to do with us? It’s his own weakness.”

“Aren’t you curious why the Phylin tribe was able to deal with him?”

“It’s because they gained a witch.”

In a circular hall, several men and women gathered together. The hall’s walls were marked by the passage of time, covered in various vines. The people gathered there were the leaders of the bandits who occupied the Wind Veil Basin, currently holding a meeting to discuss recent events.

Initially, these bandit groups were doing well in the Wind Veil Basin. Who would have thought that the Phylin tribe would come out and wipe out one of the bandit groups?

In recent years, excluding health issues due to the deteriorating conditions of the Wind Veil Basin, they have always had a smooth ride. For them, the biggest threat probably came from other gangs. Normally, they wouldn’t gather, but now they had a common foe.

“When there’s a shared enemy, even those who wouldn’t usually unite have a chance to come together.”

“Anyway, as long as we eliminate that sorceress, everything will be fine,” a woman said, casually tending to her nails.

The Phylin tribe’s support was clear—the inexplicably appearing sorceress. Although it was unclear why the sorceress was aiding the Phylin tribe, it’s certain she opposed the bandits.

“The sorceress is dangerous. It can’t be resolved so easily,” another person with an iron mask said solemnly.

The danger of the sorceress was a consensus among everyone in the Bi-coloured Realm. They had always been marked as “threatening individuals” and unpredictable. They were portrayed as dangerous characters with various personality issues, capable of doing unimaginable things. Perhaps she might even perform a self-explosion when dealing with the sorceress.

“So, are you just going to watch them act so arrogantly?” The woman said in a disdainful tone. “Yesterday, it was that bearded man. Tomorrow it could be you.”

She hadn’t expected this group of robbers to be afraid of a sorceress today. She also knew the sorceress was dangerous, but in reality, such a scary witch was persecuted in the Bi-colored Realm. That indicated that there were countless methods to deal with a sorceress.

“Stop talking so much. After we deal with the Phylin tribe, we can divide up the bearded guy’s belongings, right?” A calm person yawned.

They didn’t come here to waste time arguing. They came to figure out how to deal with the Phylin tribe. Previously, they hadn’t considered dealing with the Phylin tribe because it seemed troublesome, and there was no profit in it for them. But now that trouble had actively sought them out, they couldn’t ignore it.

“Don’t overthink it. After we deal with the Phylin tribe, we can divide up the bearded guy’s belongings, right?” A calm person yawned.

“Specify when exactly,” the masked man said in a deep voice.

“We’ll know when the time comes,” the frivolous man laughed. He didn’t want to decide on such matters too quickly. Settling too early would mean less manoeuvring space. Setting things in stone too early would limit their manoeuvrability, wouldn’t it?

“Maybe it’s the next time the Phylin tribe comes knocking on his doorstep,” the woman chuckled.

“It looks like we’re unlikely to reach a consensus,” the middle-aged man with scars all over his face shook his head. “So why are we sitting here?”

“Following the usual routine? Hold a meeting?” The frivolous man laughed.

If there’s not enough profit, no one wants to confront the Phylin tribe. In the end, these people want other bandit groups to take on the risk while their bandit group enjoys the benefits.
