The Cannon Fodder Turns His Sister Into A Soaring Phoenix C67

Chapter 67: Senior brother feels that he deserves it

Sunlight streamed through the window, casting its warm glow into the plain hospital room. Outside the window, only the chirping of birds provided background music. Inside, the only thing present besides the simple furnishings was the calming aroma of incense wafting from a gilded incense burner in the corner.

From childhood, Ye Anping and Pei Lianxue had developed a routine during their arduous training. At the slightest disturbance, Anping would instantly awaken from his slumber. However, last night, not only did he light soothing incense, but there also seemed to be some tranquillity-inducing herbs in the medicine. As a result, he slept soundly that night and even had a rare dream.

Wearing a red robe, he led Xi Yue into the hall, where, in front of his parents, they bowed three times, sealing their union. Xi Yue, with a smile on her face, touched her cheek, promising to wait for him in the bridal chamber. Turning around, he saw his grown-up junior sister joyfully congratulating her senior brother and his newly wedded wife.

As he greeted the guests and entered the bridal chamber, he excitedly lifted Xi Yue’s red veil, only to discover the face of Feng Yudie underneath. Decisively, he covered the veil back and withdrew disinterestedly from the bridal chamber. At that moment, the dream ended.

“Phew.”

Ye Anping breathed out lightly, his heart filled with mixed emotions, unsure if the dream was pleasant or nightmarish.

Just then, the door was pushed open, and two young attendants entered, pushing a wooden cart.

“Mr. Ye, it’s time to change the dressing.”

Ye Anping hesitated for a moment, suddenly remembering a subplot from the game. He politely replied, “Thank you both for coming so early. I hope it wasn’t too much trouble for you?”

“Mr. Ye is very polite. This is what we should do,” one of the attendants said with a smile, directing the other to assist Anping in getting up while they changed the bandage.

From their expressions, Anping felt that he had passed some kind of test and sighed in relief. The two attendants efficiently removed the old bandage from Anping’s body and gently wiped away any remaining ointment with warm water and a cloth.

At that moment, two soft knocks echoed from outside the door.

“Please come in!” Anping called out, thinking it might be Bai Yuexin coming to deliver breakfast.

“Ah… Senior brother, I came to see you,” Pei Lianxue said with a smile as she walked in. However, upon seeing Anping shirtless and being attended by the two young assistants, she took a sharp breath.

Just as Xiao Yunluo, following behind Lianxue, was about to greet them, Lianxue turned and pushed her aside, then closed the door with her foot.

Outside, Xiao Yunluo looked puzzled and asked, “Lianxue, what’s going on?”

“Senior brother is changing the dressing. You and I will wait outside for a while.”

Upon hearing this, Yunluo couldn’t help but smile, thinking Lianxue was fiercely protective. She and Lianxue waited outside.

Inside, the two attendants seemed to notice Yunluo. They looked pleasantly surprised, examined Anping, and asked, “Mr. Ye, is that girl familiar with you?”

“Ah… Yes, she’s my junior sister, accompanying me for the sect selection,” Anping replied.

The attendants rewrapped the bandage, and one commented, “It’s rare to see Miss Yun getting so close to someone. She used to keep to herself. I heard that many maids assigned to her were driven away.”

“I see,” Anping said, understanding without the attendants needing to explain further. Yet, after hearing their words, a slight melancholy lingered in his heart.

In the game, after the relationship between Feng Yudie and Xiao Yunluo improved, Si Xuanji took the initiative to contact Feng Yudie.

Si Xuanji’s main purpose was to get to know Feng Yudie’s temperament and principles to see if she could entrust her daughter to her.

Si Xuanji’s entrustment was to let Feng Yudie and Xiao Yunluo grow up together. As Xiao Yunluo’s sister, she protected her and allowed her to experience challenges, becoming a strong and independent young girl.

Unfortunately, Feng Yudie misunderstood the entrustment as a mere formality. In the subsequent main plot, Feng Yudie and Xiao Yunluo almost supported each other.

As mentioned earlier, Ye Anping did not seek significant revenge. He considered himself as a disposable character. His only hope was to climb the ranks in the immortal journey with his junior sister, marry Xi Yue in the Hantian Kingdom, and live a peaceful life in the Hundred Lotus Sect.

However, if Si Xuanji decided to entrust Xiao Yunluo to his junior sister, it could make her a “pseudo protagonist.”

Thinking about the challenges ahead, Ye Anping couldn’t help but frown. This was his negligence—he never anticipated his junior sister becoming friends with Xiao Yunluo before she entered Xuanxing Sect.

Considering Xiao Yunluo’s initial arrogance and wild behaviour, it was hard to imagine her becoming friends with his junior sister, who was like a “rabbit” compared to her “tigress” personality.

But, from the recent situation, it seemed that Xiao Yunluo had transformed from a “tiger” to a “cat” under his junior sister’s influence.

Considering forcibly separating them could minimise future troubles, but emotionally it might hurt his junior sister. He had been strict with his junior sister in the past but never pulled her. He felt genuinely happy for her to have a true friend, especially one like Xiao Yunluo.

Apart from forcibly separating them, another option was to increase Xiao Yunluo’s favorability towards Feng Yudie more than towards his junior sister.

This way, Si Xuanji could be led to focus on Feng Yudie, and the plot could return to the right track. However, Feng Yudie’s temperament…

Ye Anping felt that, even with his advice, the best he could do was prevent Xiao Yunluo’s favorability towards her from decreasing.

Favorability was a matter of distribution. One person’s gain meant another’s loss. Later on, Feng Yudie might have a chance, but competing with the junior sister, whom Ye Anping had nurtured for over a decade, was a different story.

Ye Anping thought,

This is all my fault. Who asked me to raise my junior sister so well?  Ye Anping, you deserve it!
