Chapter 42: Fifth-Level Monster
“Phew~” Dragon Slayer let out a soft breath, bringing his hands back, reminiscent of a certain martial artist’s way of gathering energy. Then, he smiled again and said.
“Oops, oops, thankfully it turned out just as I sensed, otherwise it would have been a waste of effort.”
“Sensation… What is that? But Tyr thinks it’s better not to ask any more common-sense questions, or Dragon Slayer might come up with something unexpected.”
“Yeah, however, the speed at which the battle ended is still surprisingly fast.”
“Well, it was a battle with such advantages after all. Although the opponent was a monster close to the upper rank [Broken Army], it lost the initiative from the start. Coupled with its inherent sluggish reaction and our numerical advantage, it’s more like we should discuss how to keep it alive within three seconds, rather than how to defeat it.”
Dragon Slayer’s joke made Tyr reluctantly shrug, not picking up on her words, and said,
“But I really didn’t expect that the coordination with Miss Dragon Slayer would be so smooth, and the timing of the combined attack was just right. Could it be that Miss Dragon Slayer had it all planned out?”
“How could that be? I’m still young, probably don’t have as much experience as those folks from the Shating Iron Sword.” Dragon Slayer boasted a bit about her youth, spinning around as if showing off, and a sudden fragrance filled the air.
“Oh my, I heard you’re already twenty-seven.” Tyr muttered to himself, but he didn’t dare say it out loud, nor did he dare to ask how the other person stopped growing. He just chuckled and then made a suggestion.
“Let’s quickly get the right eye of the ogre King as proof and then go help Sunflower Butterfly and the others.”
“Alright, after all, those guys have been holding off most of the ogres quite tenaciously. It would be a shame if they sacrificed themselves for it.”
“Mhmm.” Although Tyr wasn’t particularly fond of Dragon Slayer’s wording, he chose to stay quiet and help them out as soon as possible.
However, a sudden change occurred. An invisible whirlwind began to swirl inside the cave, and Tyr looked up at a gradually thickening vortex of black, puzzled. Dragon Slayer’s expression changed.
“A vortex of demonic energy! Damn it!”
“A vortex of demonic energy?” Tyr’s confusion didn’t wait for Dragon Slayer’s answer, as at that moment, she had already dashed straight towards the Ogre King embedded in the wall.
“Martial arts! Integrated into the soul!”
It was an attack as if whipping a corpse, driving one to madness. However, the black demonic energy seemed to possess sentience, coalescing into a shield that blocked in front of Dragon Slayer. The thunderous fist winds were completely intercepted.
Dragon Slayer took two steps back, meeting up with Tyr who rushed over at full speed. Before Tyr could ask anything, Dragon Slayer spoke up.
“This guy broke through at the last moment and triggered the vortex of demonic energy. In a little while, we’ll be facing a Level Five demon!”
There’s a fundamental difference between Level Four and Level Five demons. Before Level Five, all demons are essentially just slightly stronger wild beasts or monsters. However, from Level Five onwards, they can manipulate demonic energy and are rightfully called demons.
“What should we do, retreat?” Tyr suggested, but Dragon Slayer shook her head.
“It’s too late, and even if we escape outside, those four mercenaries you had your eye on will also be killed!”
“Well, we have no choice but to go for it.” Tyr frowned deeply, never expecting such a twist in what should have been an easy task. If the mercenary division finds out the bounty target is a fifth-level monster, the reward might increase to fifty thousand or even higher. And the number of team members will double, maybe even adding a few iron-ranked mercenaries to the team.
“Man plans, God laughs.”
With this sentiment, the vortex of demonic energy overhead gradually converged onto the ogre’s abdomen, rapidly healing the previously pierced wound, followed by a frantic increase in size.
Five meters, seven meters, ten meters, fifteen meters.
Twenty meters!
Boom! A massive creature fell from the wall, causing tremors akin to an earthquake. After all the demonic energy gathered inside the ogre’s body, the gigantic monster looked at its hands and body with a humanoid gaze, followed by a roar indicating its intention to devour everything.
“Mwah Mwah!”
At this moment, Tyr couldn’t help but inwardly sigh. No wonder it was called the Ogre King in the bounty, “Mwah Mwah!” So that’s what it meant.
“Let’s go, even if it’s strong, the ogre’s innate sluggishness in reaction can’t be compensated for. We’ll use swift attacks to confuse it!” Dragon Slayer clenched her fists and locked eyes with Tyr.
“Alright!”
