Chapter 44: Mentor Rachel
“Professor Rachel?!” The four of them spotted Rachel on the right side of the second-floor corridor, leaning against the window ledge and looking outside. Upon hearing their voices, she turned her gaze toward them.
“You’re the new students, right? Let me see… Tyr, Claude, Constantine, and Xiaoqi, isn’t it?” Rachel was able to immediately recall their names, indicating that she had memorized the names and faces of all the over two thousand students. For a powerful individual with vast perception abilities, memorizing the data of two thousand people in an instant was not too difficult a task.
“Hello, Teacher. You’ll be our homeroom teacher from now on, right?” Constantine said eagerly. Having such a beautiful homeroom teacher would be liked by anyone. Rachel nodded in response.
“Didn’t we discuss this in the morning? From now on, I’ll be in charge of Class Nine.”
“Well, that’s great. But, Teacher Rachel, I have a question.” Constantine continued.
“With over two thousand students in Class Nine, can thirteen teachers handle it?”
“You don’t need to worry about that. Why did I ask you to greet those thirteen teachers? Because they are permanent teachers here and won’t move around, and your overall performance will also be linked to their salaries. As for the transient teachers, there will be many of them, mostly moving around in various classes. Here, we’ll have at least seventy to eighty transient teachers.”
With seventy to eighty teachers, it’s already a saturated number for two thousand students. A teacher can handle forty to fifty students in a class. Even if we implement a rotating schedule with half of them teaching at any given time, each teacher would only need to manage forty to fifty students, especially with permanent teachers present. So, this allocation is indeed very reasonable. Avalon has truly considered everything for the students’ sake.
“Is there any other question?” Rachel appeared exceptionally patient at this moment, as Constantine had provided excellent explanations for two consecutive questions.
Claude and the others shook their heads, indicating there were no issues. However, after some contemplation, Constantine turned to Rachel and asked, “I heard that before we arrived, a senior from the fourth year confessed to you, Teacher. Is that true?”
“......” Rachel was startled by the sudden question, her ears immediately turning red. Fortunately, she didn’t blush easily; otherwise, it would have been utterly embarrassing if her students saw it.
Tyr couldn’t help but raise his thumb behind Constantine, silently admiring him as a brave man. He pondered for a moment and imagined if the teacher in front of him was the Dragon Slayer with ten times increased power, he would probably be scared out of his wits and flee immediately.
Claude and Kagura Xiaoqi held their breath, and everyone fell silent for a moment. The awkwardness of the situation was palpable, making it uncomfortable for everyone. Finally, Rachel sighed and said.
“Sigh~ Being confessed to isn’t a big deal, it’s quite common in the academy. But as a demigod, I was startled by a confession from a student of imperial caliber, it’s quite laughable, don’t you think?”
“So, did the teacher take the opportunity to become an administrator on the Avalon exclusive train?”
“Yes, but Constantine, what’s the purpose of your inquiry?” This time, Rachel questioned Constantine, feeling somewhat oppressed by the faint aura he emitted. Poor Constantine finally reaped what he sowed. Tyr and the others tactfully stepped back a few steps, handing the stage over to their roommate.
“I-I’m just curious, really! I-I definitely don’t want to bring a big piece of news to the journalism club or anything!” Constantine’s already very punchable demeanor was made even more so by this remark, much to Rachel’s displeasure, who showed a hint of a cruel smile.
“Well done, well done. So you wanted to make a clever move. You’re quite shrewd. I’ve decided to pay extra attention to you when classes start tomorrow.”
“Please disregard me. I was impulsive earlier. I hope the esteemed teacher can be especially forgiving.”
“Joking aside, who wants to be targeted by the homeroom teacher on the first day of school? How can one survive in school under such scrutiny? Having anticipated this outcome, Tyr and the others remained silent, keeping their thoughts to themselves. They wouldn’t intervene in whatever punishment Constantine would face next, as it would be foolish to do so. Even Claude wouldn’t extend his helping hand to someone who had already made a mistake. Though Claude could be straightforward at times, he wasn’t foolish. Even if Constantine looked at them with pleading eyes, no one would come to his rescue.”
Rachel chuckled and said nothing, gently patting Constantine on the shoulder before adding, “I have high hopes for you. Don’t disappoint me.”
“Teacher, I…” Constantine’s expression was more wretched than crying, but unfortunately, Rachel had already handed down the death sentence. Constantine’s future would now take an irreversible turn.
The three roommates behind him could only offer a standard military-style farewell, sending their final blessings to this fearless fellow.
“Alright, I have other things to attend to. Don’t stay in the building too late. It’s not very safe here at night,” Rachel said mysteriously, then walked away slowly, passing by the four of them.
Constantine’s whole body was drenched in cold sweat, and if you looked at him from afar, you’d see that he had turned white, looking like he had been burnt to ashes.
Diaz and Shating Iron Sword and others walked together when suddenly they noticed a petite figure at the entrance, striding in angrily.
“Lord Dragon Slayer?” Wind Slash Ghost Eye, with exceptional perception, immediately spoke up. Upon closer inspection by Diaz, they found it was indeed that unfathomable little girl. So, they walked over with the two.
“Dragon Slayer, you’re here too. What’s got you so excited?”
Dragon Slayer stopped in his tracks upon seeing Diaz, though he didn’t have the fiery demeanor as before, he still appeared rather gloomy. “Hello, Diaz. It’s nothing much, just asked the gatekeeper, and it seems like Tyr is inside.”
“Oh? Dragon Slayer, you’re here to find Tyr?” Diaz raised an eyebrow, while Shating Iron Sword behind him showed a hint of intriguing insight, as if he had seen through something.
Dragon Slayer nodded, clearly agitated as he said. “That guy was caught red-handed harassing Yuehai. I could understand if he didn’t confess, but to flee in fear of punishment is just cowardly.”
Pfft~ Wind Slash Ghost nearly choked on his own breath. The way Dragon Slayer talked about Tyr was completely different from their impression of him. Fortunately, Diaz remained composed. Even if Dragon Slayer’s words were true, he showed no reaction other than a slight hint of confusion. “What’s strange is that when Tyr joined us earlier, Yuehai didn’t say anything.”
“Yuehai, I haven’t interacted with her much, but I know some things about her. She’s gentle and humble, dislikes drawing attention to herself, and despite being a disciple of Laogeri, she shows no arrogance. A girl like her would probably prefer to avoid unnecessary trouble if she hasn’t been harmed in any way. That’s why she didn’t speak up about it to you.”
