Chapter 30: Did we… make a profit
Miss Mercury is no stranger to the world. She understands the significance of the patterns on Ron’s hands.
These markings prove that Ron had defeated numerous malevolent deities, more compelling evidence than any magical scroll.
Evil gods have marked Ron, considering him a threat—a rare status in the dual-color realm.
However, Ron seemed reluctant to disclose the origin of these patterns and had kept some things hidden. But it didn’t matter; Miss Mercury believed Ron’s secrets were inconsequential compared to the system of the Ten Sages.
She clasped her hands together, saying, “By the way, it seems this witch has completely awakened.”
Apart from Ron, she’s also intrigued by Moluna.
A witch returning from the state of black mud to a human form and awakening so quickly is truly rare.
“I want this witch to work under me. What do you think?” Miss Mercury looks at Ron and asked.
“She’s not my possession, don’t ask me,” Ron waves his hand.
He’s not Moluna’s guardian, so Miss Mercury consulting him doesn’t matter.
“Well, Miss Moluna, what do you think?” Miss Mercury turned to Moluna.
Moluna was clearly uninterested, using a wooden cup to cover her face, eyeing Miss Mercury warily. Moluna knew people were drawn to witches’ power, but she also knew a cruel reality.
When a witch had utility, some express goodwill. But in a crisis, no one would show goodwill, even those who were kind before.
Except for Ron, Moluna didn’t trust anyone else.
“Not interested,” Moluna said expressionlessly.
Although Miss Mercury can’t read Ron’s mind now, reading Moluna’s is still possible. She chuckles softly, knowing Moluna is wary of her and winning her over is impossible.
“Miss Moluna, there’s no need to be so wary of Miss Mercury,” Lilian took the cup from Moluna, “Besides, we are currently discussing matters of territory with Miss Mercury.”
Moluna put on a stunned expression, realizing her actions would harm Ron.
After a while, she struggled to apologize, “I’m sorry.”
With the apology, the water in Miss Mercury’s cup surged, but she suppressed it without changing her demeanor.
No one noticed this small detail.
“I haven’t become petty to that extent, Lilian,” Miss Mercury said with a slight smile.
She noticed Lilian had already sided with Ron.
“Well, since we’ve mentioned the matter of territory, I’ll draft a document for you now,” Miss Mercury unfolded a scroll of parchment, “The Norman Empire has already agreed to grant you the territory. You just need to take the document to your territory.”
“You’ve already taken care of the procedures in advance?” Ron was slightly surprised. Miss Mercury seemed confident he would complete the task.
“Of course, I don’t like to rush things,” she explained, “But it’s not about trusting you. It’s simply that if you fail, the territory will be given to someone else.”
“If you die, I just need to change your name on the document,” she dropped one drop of ink after another onto the parchment.
Without Miss Mercury lifting a pen, the ink on the paper formed rows of words.
“After the ink finished writing on its own, Miss Mercury said, “I’m sure you already know the true identities of Lilian and me.”
She was sure that Lilian had already revealed their dragon identities to Ron. “Now that you know we’re dragons, any thoughts?”
“No thoughts, it’s fine,” Ron said, looking at the ceiling. After a few seconds, he shared his opinion.
Lilian didn’t appear in front of him as a giant lizard, so any cute girl was okay. As for whether they were dragons or not, it didn’t matter.
“Very good. Your speed in adapting to a new life should also be effective in your new territory,” Miss Mercury said, looking meaningfully at Ron.
As she finished speaking, the parchment was already filled with words.
“As long as you sign your name, the territory around Phoenix Town will belong to you,” she said, pushing a contract towards Ron.
“Just one town? And it’s quite small. Is that normal?” Ron couldn’t help but ask.
“Large territories have cities. Small territories usually only have a few towns,” Lilian explained quietly on the side.
“But this only has one town,” Ron pointed to the contract.
“That’s an undeveloped territory,” Lilian said without changing her expression, “Similar to the area around Winterless Town you visited, where only one town has been developed.”
Hearing this, Ron looked at Miss Mercury with a strange expression.
At the same time, he frantically called out to the system, “System, translate this for me. I don’t know what’s written on it.”
“Translation completed. The text has been sent.”
The next second, Ron understood the words on the parchment. He read it carefully several times and felt no major issues. It mainly outlined obligations.
The only issue now was that the territory had only one town.
“Mr. Ron, I can’t just give you a well-developed territory,” Miss Mercury said, “Do you think the original lord of that territory would agree?”
Ron opened his mouth, feeling that Miss Mercury’s words made much sense. He wouldn’t be willing to give it away if he had a prosperous territory. Having an undeveloped territory was already quite good for him as a person with limited means.
“And an undeveloped territory is also a valuable thing,” she said, “If I were to throw this territory out there, countless people would fight fiercely for it.”
The more Ron listened, the more it made sense to him, and he promptly signed his name on the contract without hesitation.
If he found a vein of minerals in this undeveloped territory, wouldn’t he be on the road to riches?
Opportunity knocks only once, and now he feared that Miss Mercury might change her mind.
The moment Ron finished signing, Miss Mercury promptly stamped the document.
“By the way, Lilian can continue working for you in the future,” she said with a smile, “You just need to pay her a salary.”
Lilian nodded gently, “I’m honored to continue working for you, Mr. Ron.”
At this moment, Ron had not yet realized if any issues were involved. He just felt like he had hit the jackpot.
