Chapter 19: Wishing You Sweet Dreams
After exchanging the bandit leader for money, Ron’s mood resembled that of the Phylin tribe. He’d want to uncork a bottle if there were champagne.
No, wait, open two bottles! One for sipping and one to squander! That was the extent of his imagination.
Everything seemed to be looking up, and celebrating was indeed worth it. Moreover, he had a premonition that he would soon lead a decent life. However, after the joy, he couldn’t help but sigh.
Now, while there were indeed reasons to be happy, there were also quite a few discomforting things he had to face. After entering the room, Ron took a deep breath and arranged his pillow.
Lilian stood at the doorway, observing Ron’s solemn ritual, and said, “Mr. Ron, I can help you tidy up the room.”
“No need,” Ron shook his head. He was mentally preparing himself for something, “I’ll feel more at ease doing it myself.”
Lilian’s eyes flashed with puzzlement, but she didn’t say much in the end. She silently closed the door, “Then, I wish you a good dream.”
“I hope for a good dream too,” Ron thought that he could only have one nightmare tonight.
He lay on the bed and hesitated long before closing his eyes. As his consciousness gradually dimmed, an expected voice rang out.
“Long time no see, traveller,” the Virtuous person, wearing a cross-shaped mask, stood less than five meters away from Ron.
But now, Ron’s surroundings were no longer the appearance of his room. Instead, it was a space filled with grids.
“Or perhaps I should show some respect and call you Ron,” he said casually, hands behind his back. From his tone, there was no hint of respect whatsoever.
“Call me whatever you want,” Ron sighed.
“Ron,” the Virtuous person said, “Engaging in parallel resonance on your own is a very dangerous, and I don’t like it.”
“But since you’ve managed to survive, I don’t mind congratulating you,” the Virtuous person added, clapping his hands as if celebrating Ron’s success. Just as the “mentor” mentioned, the system knew everything about Ron—except for what happened during the resonance. The system only knew that Ron had acquired a strange possibility but didn’t know what happened while obtaining that possibility.
“When you obtain two different possibilities, your strength undergoes a qualitative change,” the Virtuous person explained, “and when you acquire another possibility, your strength will continue to undergo a qualitative change.”
“For an individual, I really hope you explore more possibilities.”
The crazy qualitative change that accumulates from these possibilities is the capital that allowed a traveller to confront the Outer Gods. Otherwise, with the mediocre qualifications of the travellers, not to mention confronting the Outer Gods, even resisting individuals in the dual-colour realm would be wishful thinking.
If a fifteenth-level warrior could confront the Outer Gods, then the Virtuous persons wouldn’t be so troubled.
“Oh, by the way, it seems you’ve encountered and dealt with the monster you encountered for the first time,” the Virtuous person mentioned, applauding Ron again.
However, this time, the enthusiasm was much greater than last. “There are many similar monsters in the dual-colour realm. It would be even better if you could solve them all.”
For various reasons, the Virtuous person did not mention the crucial term “Outer Gods.”
“I’d prefer to run next time,” Ron looked elsewhere. He didn’t have any reason to fight monsters.
“Sometimes, running is not on the list of options,” the Virtuous person wagged his finger.
Ron pondered for a moment. He felt like he had many things to ask. But when it came to asking the Virtuous person, he couldn’t figure out exactly what to ask.
So, he casually asked a question, “Why would the dragons help me?”
“Dragons? It’s simple, because of an oath,” the Virtuous person said calmly, “Dragons will guide travellers a bit.”
After hearing the Virtuous person’s explanation, Ron thought about Lady Mercury and Lilian’s attitudes and found it all quite reasonable. However, considering various previous events, Ron didn’t fully trust the Virtuous person’s words.
In the dual-colour realm, one needs to discern the lies bit by bit.
“I don’t have many chances to meet you,” the Virtuous person said regretfully, “and I don’t know how long it will be until the next meeting.”
He wanted to meet with the traveller, provided the traveller could complete the mission. Many times, if Ron hadn’t asked, the Virtuous person probably wouldn’t have mentioned it in his lifetime.
“Of course, it’s limited to guidance,” he added.
After the Virtuous person’s words, Ron felt he had many things to ask. However, Ron couldn’t figure out exactly what to ask next time.
“Okay, I won’t disturb you anymore. Enjoy the pleasure of becoming stronger,” the Virtuous person said with profound meaning.
Then, the mechanical and cold female voice of the system rang out, and the figure of the Virtuous person dispersed into countless cubes, disappearing splendidly.
[Task System Update.]. [Task Name: For the Territory]. [You are already the lord of this territory, and you don’t want to see bandits running rampant in your land. Determined and powerful, you decide to eliminate this stumbling block personally.]. [Task Objective: Annihilate a bandit gang in the territory (1/1)]. [Completion Reward: Unlocking the next stage of intensive training]. [Prepare yourself for the next phase of intensive training.]. [Next, you will undergo training in the current isolated space.]. [Countdown begins, 3, 2, 1!]. [Training Name: Warrior Advancement]. [You are already a warrior, but the path of a warrior is long, and you need to go further.]. [Training Objective: Defeat a swarm of Moon Bugs in a weakened state (0/10000)]. [Failure Penalty: None, but you cannot leave without completing it.].After the system finished speaking, Ron noticed the surging swarm of bugs.
Those were creatures with translucent crystalline shells, resembling beetles in shape but covered in tendrils made of interconnected beads, likely the moon insects mentioned by the system.
Soon, Ron understood what the weakness in the training content meant. Suddenly, drowsiness overcame him, and he almost couldn’t stand. His limbs felt heavy, as if they were chained. Sweat dripped from his forehead, and even before he started moving, he already felt exhausted. Great, this damn system of him should have such a flavour. And he also noticed that the environment around him had turned into ruins.
“The joy of becoming stronger?” Ron chuckled, “There’s none at all.”
