Chapter 21: Hello, I’m the Maid
At the same moment, several figures gradually gathered under the cover of night.
“Boss, are we really going to attack this town directly?” Asked a one-eyed bandit to the alluring woman beside him.
The Scorpion Lady, a bandit leader in the Wind Veil Basin, confidently led her gang into Phoenix Town with a self-satisfied smile.
“Now that we know the Phylin tribe is wealthy, I don’t want to share the spoils with those guys,” she disdainfully remarked, waving her hand.
Satisfied with the numbers, she counted her subordinates and stretched lazily, “Alright, let’s go.”
Confidently, she led her gang into Phoenix Town, anticipating the treasures of the wealthy Phylin tribe. As for the witch, she held a circular prayer charm of Vandal, a tool to counter the witch’s abilities.
“With this charm, the witch poses no threat to us,” she said, licking her lips. “Besides, those other fools don’t have this charm.”
Collaborating with other bandit groups would mean sharing the charm, something she wasn’t willing to do. Suddenly, the Scorpion Lady coughed harshly, surprising even herself.
“Boss?” Her subordinates looked at her in astonishment. Coughing loudly in the middle of the night could reveal their location.
“It’s nothing,” the Scorpion Lady reassured them, though she hadn’t expected the uncontrollable coughing.
Lately, her coughing had become more frequent, but she dismissed any thought of health issues. As for the rumours of a shortened lifespan in the Wind Veil Basin, she didn’t believe them.
“Let’s go check that house with lights on; maybe it’s the witch,” suggested one of her subordinates, pointing to the mayor’s residence.
The Scorpion Lady, shifting her focus from the Phylin tribe, agreed, “Let’s go take a look. Maybe it’s the witch.”
Not everyone could endure the Phylin tribe’s cramped caves, and some refugees chose to live in Wind Bird Town’s houses.
“Boss, I heard that witches are always beautiful,” one of her subordinates mentioned excitedly, perpetuating the legend that even old witches maintain a seductive appearance.
“I know what you guys are thinking,” the Scorpion Woman chuckled. In the corners of her eyes, complex thoughts were concealed. “Just follow the usual procedure. Do as you want.”
Of course, she knew exactly what these guys had in mind, and such things were not uncommon in the Wind Veil Basin. The Scorpion Woman’s subordinates got excited but quickly quieted down under a single glance from her. “Don’t make noise.”
They couldn’t afford to be discovered now. What if the people inside the house fled? Nobody wanted to let the cooked duck fly away. They were different from other bandit groups. They deliberately changed their clothes to colours that were easily concealed. Although the people of the Phylin tribe were keeping watch, their main focus was still on their cave. The Scorpion Woman chose the route the Phylin tribe couldn’t notice unless she was foolish enough to allow her subordinates to make noise.
“The lights are on brightly; it’s evident they’re enjoying themselves,” the Scorpion lady’s long nails rubbed against each other like sharpening a knife.
However, when they arrived at the mayor’s mansion, they saw a white-haired girl dressed as a maid standing at the doorway. Her posture was very proper, hands placed in front of her abdomen, eyes closed slightly, seemingly quietly waiting for something.
The immediate thought in everyone’s mind was, “Why is there a maid here?”
“Welcome, may I ask the purpose of your visit?” While the Scorpion lady was still in a state of confusion, the lovely-faced maid spoke up.
After a few seconds of contemplation, the Scorpion lady glanced at her subordinates. “Attack.”
They couldn’t know what was happening with the maid, but she decided to strike first. Her subordinates had long wanted to attack the seemingly fragile maid. They hurled their weapons coated with poison directly at her. However, all these objects stopped less than a meter from the maid, blocked by a water curtain.
The only maid who appeared in Wind Bird Town was Lilian. Lilian lifted the hem of her skirt with her left hand and bowed to the bandits in front of her. “Since it’s come to this, guests, please don’t leave.”
As she finished speaking, numerous silver daggers appeared behind her, shining brightly in the light.
“She’s a witch!” The Scorpion lady immediately concluded Lilian was a witch and took out her prayer symbol.
Lilian raised an eyebrow, facing the bandits with an elegant posture. “A prayer symbol?”
The Scorpion lady’s expression turned fierce, and said, “That’s right, it’s the bane of witches like you.”
Even the most powerful witch could only be defeated by this prayer symbol. However she tried for a long time, but there was no sign of anything unusual with Lilian.
Lilian made a hushing gesture and said, “Guests, please don’t misunderstand. I am not a witch.”
“Actually, I’m not a filthy human either.” Without warning, a dagger appeared between her fingers.
