Chapter 36: Seizing Every Opportunity
Lilian, as a dragon, had witnessed numerous conflicts among humans. Ron would face more choices than he imagined in the future. If humans with prejudice against the Phylin tribe arrive, how should Ron handle it?
If some disreputable humans arrive, how should Ron handle it?
If humans infected with an epidemic arrive, how should Ron handle it?
This is just one aspect of Wind Bird Town. If Ron’s territory expands, the complexities of conflicts will increase.
Addressing these matters isn’t as simple as saying “expel them.”
Lilian was curious to see how chaotic Ron’s territory would become. Such situations could be detrimental to the Phylin tribe. Though Lilian liked the Phylin tribe, she acknowledged their vulnerability.
Dealing with these Phylin tribe members didn’t require Lilian’s mind-reading abilities. If serious, the Phylin tribe wouldn’t be a concern for Lilian.
“Mr. Ron, as a lord, there’s a lot to consider for the future,” Lilian said, suggesting he find someone to assist him.
Ron lacked experience in managing territories and needed assistance. Lilian felt Ron had a misconception about being a lord. It was not just for enjoyment.
“If you can’t think about all these things yourself, find someone to assist you soon,” Lilian advised.
Ron was not foolish, but Lilian gracefully suggested finding help.
Refugees would be a troublesome matter. Ron agreed that refugees were a major challenge. Rebuilding Wind Bird Town required accepting more people than just the Phylin tribe. In a large group, not everyone would be harmonious and friendly.
Mr. Susua reassured Ron that the matter wasn’t as complicated as he thought.
Refugees wouldn’t flood into Wind Bird Town all at once. Ultimately, it came down to Ron’s bottom line, and only he knew where it lay.
With enough manpower, managing Wind Bird Town wasn’t as difficult. Even if Ron was a harsh leader, Wind Bird Town could last a few years once built.
The Phylin tribe might leave if the situation became unbearable, even if the lord was a fool.
“What’s going on?” Ron widened his eyes. “Why do I feel like both of you are so pessimistic?”
Lilian and Mr. Susua seemed to have sentenced him to death, believing he had no chance at all to govern the territory properly.
“Ah! Mr. Susuaa and Mr. Ron, you’re both here after all!” Susuan’s voice came from afar.
After finding them, Susuan adjusted her floral crown. “That strange human from before, the one with several carriages, has returned.”
“Strange human?” Ron inquired.
“He’s tall, wears a tall hat, and has a thin line of beard,” Susuan described.
Ron instantly remembered who that was—wasn’t that Doran, who had been gone for a while?
“He said he wants to see the lord,” Susuan said, “He’s waiting at the south gate of the town right now.”
Mr. Susua didn’t follow but remained calmly by the dried-up spring, sipping his tea.
Lilian, being a maid, naturally followed Ron, leaving Mr. Susua alone by the spring.
“So busy. How long has it been since it was this way?”
Several carriages arrived at the gate of Wind Bird Town, their roofs loaded with crates.
When Ron spotted the tall hat at the front of the carriage, he confirmed it was indeed Doran.
“That fellow hasn’t changed his hat for so long. I wonder if he ever washed it,” Ron thought.
“Oh! Lord! My dear lord! You’ve finally arrived,” exclaimed Doran loudly as he stood beside the carriage.
Ron tried to say, “Doran?”
“Yes, it’s me, my lord,” Doran said.
Doran took off his hat. “I’ve brought countless supplies for you.”
Ron looked at the carriages and couldn’t help but marvel, “Quite a lot of stuff?”
“Of course, I mortgaged some of my own things to get all this,” Doran said proudly.
Doran didn’t tell Ron that he had mortgaged everything for this. Moreover, if this trade falls through, his life is over.
“We don’t need building materials,” Ron said, lifting the cloth covering one of the carriages.
Inside, the carriage was indeed filled with items, likely things that the Phylin people currently need.
Looking at Doran, Ron said, “I never expected you to bring back this much.”
“I am Doran, a hunter who can seize any opportunity,” Doran boasted.
“Haha,” Ron chuckled with an impassive expression, just to humor him.
