Chapter 4: Is this possible?
Amidst the cheers of the Phylin tribe, Ron finally reached his intended residence. Ron was eager to see where he would stay, perhaps in a spacious dwelling. However, when he discovered the Phylin tribe leading him into a tunnel, a sense of unease washed over him.
“Mr. Ron, this is where you’ll be staying!” Susu’an, with an indifferent stride, approached a dug-out hole.
“You want me to stay in a pit?” Ron exclaimed in shock, gazing at the excavated cavity.
“We live in pits too,” Susu’an explained, “This is the largest one, second only to the old man.”
“Why not stay in the houses in Fengniao Town?” Ron pointed to the nearby town.
Fengniao Town might have been abandoned, but the houses inside were still intact, suitable for habitation with some cleaning.
“Mr. Ron, are you foolish?” Susu’an scoffed, attacking Ron, “There are bandits on the surface!”
“They know we’re in Fengniao Town, watching us daily,” she continued, “If we live there, we’ll be captured and sold.”
“Doesn’t this place have soldiers patrolling?” Ron inquired.
“No such thing!” Susu’an dismissed with a wave.
The Phylin tribe had lived here long and never encountered any supposed soldiers.
“Even if there were, they wouldn’t help us,” she added, rubbing her face.
Ron was curious, “Why?”
“Because Dad said humans won’t recognise us as legal citizens,” Susu’an explained.
The Phylin tribe served as reserves for wild beasts and potential slaves for humans.
“Humans are as disgusting as ever,” Lilian remarked.
“Miss Lilian, you’re here too,” Ron glanced at Lilian.
“I am your maid. I’ll be here,” Lilian replied, lifting her skirt, “I brought Miss Moluna as well.”
“But I hope we won’t be living in these holes tonight,” she added, looking disdainfully at the pits.
“We don’t want to live in holes either,” Susu’an sighed, “But Dad said we have to be cautious.”
“Without Dad, we would’ve all been sold off by now!” She emphasised the severity of their situation.
“I’ll protect you too,” Moluna said earnestly, grabbing Susu’an’s hand.
“Thank you in advance,” Susu’an said with a smile, heading out to gather food, leaving Ron despondent.
“How did it come to this?” Ron crouched on the ground, contemplating his unexpected and challenging situation.
The lordly life he dreamt of shouldn’t be like this. Now, not only did he not even have a place to stay. However, what the Phylin tribe said was true. Living on the surface made them an easy target for bandits. Ron also didn’t want to risk being killed by bandits in the middle of the night, especially since he wasn’t sure if he could time travel again.
“Are we really going to live in this hole?” Ron looked at the pit with a complicated expression.
“Mr. Ron, it seems like you have to go in. You’ll have to endure it for now,” Lilian said gracefully.
Ron felt something was off in Lilian’s words but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“Of course, I’ll go find a house with Miss Moluna for now,” Lilian added, not leaving Ron confused for too long.
It would be unreasonable for Lilian to be afraid of bandits as a dragon.
“What about me?” Ron pointed to himself.
“After you pay me a salary, I’ll be at your service,” Lilian said, striking a dignified pose.
Moluna held onto Ron and didn’t want to be taken away by Lilian. “Lord Ron, I want to stay here.”
“Miss Moluna, I think, given Mr. Ron’s nasty temperament, he prefers someone cleaner like you,” Lilian said mysteriously.
This statement left Moluna momentarily stunned.
“That’s not wrong,” Ron honestly expressed his desire.
“But I think I can salvage the situation,” Ron had just finished saying when he realised Lilian and Moluna had already disappeared from his line of sight. Leaving him as the only empty-nested young man here.
Ron sighed, “Can’t go on like this forever, right?”
【Detected the distress of the time traveller. Mission system updated.】
【Mission Name: For the Territory】
【You are already the lord of this territory, and you don’t want to see bandits running rampant in your territory. Determined, you decide to eliminate all obstacles personally.】
【Mission Objective: Eliminate a bandit group in the territory (0/1)】
【Completion Reward: Unlock the next stage of intensive training】
After completing the mission, Ron gazed at the rewards awaiting him and fell silent. At that moment, uncertainty clouded his mind about whether this was a reward or a punishment. After the last intense training session, he felt death was looming ever closer. He feared he might end up buried alongside other time travellers this time.
“It’s clear you’re not fond of dwelling in caves,” Grandpa Susu’ya remarked, hunching beside Ron. “But it’s inevitable; this is the safest place.”
“While elders may not fear bandits, we still have to protect the children,” he added.
Though Ron was curious about the distinction between Phylin tribe adults and children, given the serious atmosphere, he refrained from asking.
“Susu’ya, I have a suggestion,” Ron raised his hand and proposed.
The next moment, he found himself being tapped on the head with Grandpa Susu’ya’s cane. “Call me Grandpa Susu’ya!”
Ron deftly blocked the cane and said, “Calm down, Grandpa.”
“What’s your suggestion?” Grandpa Susu’ya inquired, retracting his cane with a puzzled look.
“If we deal with the bandits, can’t we live peacefully in the town?” Ron suggested.
Grandpa Su Su’ya glanced at Ron and asked, “Will that work?”
