Chapter 49: Hello, Nice to Meet You for the First Time

“Miss Lilian, what on earth is this? I absolutely can’t comprehend it.”

“If you don’t understand, Mr. Ron, that’s right. This is not something an amateur like you can grasp.”

In the room, Ron looked puzzled at the paper filled with characters in his hand.

The difference between him now and the old Loloan was probably that he didn’t flip the paper over to look.

Lilian stood by the side and said, “These are some very simple rules.”

Ron doesn’t have anyone around him to advise, so Lilian can only reluctantly take on the role.

Of course, Ron could also ask Mr. Susua, but it seemed he lacked that awareness.

“Yesterday, members of the Phylin tribe fought at the town gate over what to eat today.”

With lowered eyelids, she said, “To prevent such a situation from happening again, we must establish rules.”

If we didn’t establish rules, who knew? The Phylin tribe might start a war over an orange tree. For such a comical reason, she didn’t want to see Windbird Town turn into a river of blood so soon.

Some might think the probability of such incidents was small, but Lilian wanted to clarify that she had seen towns erupt in conflict over a simple iron ring before.

“There’s also this kind of thing?” Ron was shocked.

“Shouldn’t I just be a laid-back shopkeeper?” He questioned, looking at Lilian skeptically.

He increasingly felt frustrated as a lord, with incidents occurring in the town every few days. If he was going to manage a whole territory in the future, wouldn’t that be even more troublesome?

“If everything goes smoothly, you might have the chance to be a laid-back shopkeeper.”

Lilian explained, “But do you think Windbird Town is on the right track now?”

With Windbird Town not fully rebuilt yet, Ron thinking about being a laid-back shopkeeper for the Wind Veil Basin was clearly wishful thinking.

Most of those who became laid-back shopkeepers had inherited prosperous territories from others, where everything was already in order, and they didn’t need much intervention.

“Lord Ron, the witch you saved has awakened.”

While Ron was still studying those rules, Moluna knocked on the door.

“The witch is awake?” Ron didn’t look up but asked, “Can she speak?”

After saving Moluna, she couldn’t speak for quite a long time. Traveling around Vandar’s Holy Kingdom with Moluna was challenging when communication wasn’t possible. Ron admired his past self. Surviving that situation was truly a miracle.

“Hello, nice to meet you for the first time.”

Suddenly, a gentle voice came from beside Moluna.

The voice made Ron pause for a moment before he finally looked up.

Eveum pursed her lips, smiling. Although she was clearly sizing up Ron, her soft eyes made her likable.

“Lord Ron, I’m Evum. Thank you for saving me.”

Evum spoke, expressing her gratitude.

She had already learned Ron’s name from Moluna — after all, Moluna couldn’t stop talking about Ron for three sentences, and she didn’t even need to ask. Although she didn’t know how Ron had saved her, she could stand here like an ordinary person, thanks to Ron.

“Find a place to sit down.”

Ron casually said, “I have some things I want to ask you.”

Eveum obediently sat down, waiting for Ron’s questions.

Ron also wanted to chat with Eveum about some less important matters, but the issue of the Mother Holy Tree was more crucial.

Why? Because it concerned Ron’s life.

Not to mention the matter of life force being drained, just the impending arrival of the Great Tree Knight was giving him a headache.

“What exactly is that place?” Ron asked straight to the point.

Eveum placed her finger on her lips, pondering what place Ron was referring to.

“Miss Eveum, it’s where we rescued you,” Lilian, who could read minds, added from the side.

“I’m sorry, but I don’t have a strong impression of that place.”

Eveum said regretfully, “I only remember what happened before my magic went out of control.”

She wanted to answer Ron’s questions but genuinely didn’t know the answers.

“Why did your magic go out of control?” Ron paused and asked.

Eveum’s expression underwent a subtle change, and then she sighed deeply, “I don’t know the specific reasons.”

“But I went out of control after being betrayed.”

She briefly talked about the refugees.

Unfortunately, she really didn’t want to delve too deep into it.

“Wow.” Ron expressed his feelings with just one word.

Are the customs of this Wind Veil Basin unexpectedly simple?

“Humanity is, as always, beyond redemption.”

Lilian, upon hearing what Eveum described, was not surprised at all.

Lilian wouldn’t be so disappointed in humanity if it weren’t for seeing too many similar things.

“There was a time when Lilian would console herself with the reason that ‘only a small portion of people are like this.'”

However, later on, she couldn’t continue deceiving herself with such reasoning.

“Am I not a human too?” Ron pointed to himself.

“You are beyond redemption as well,” Lilian spoke in the most polite tone.

Eveum suddenly burst into laughter, but she quickly noticed others looking at her amused expression, so she covered her face.

“It seems the witch’s outburst is traceable,” Ron rubbed his chin and muttered.

Moluna also mentioned that she couldn’t control her magic after being hurt by someone, and Eveum’s situation was very similar to Moluna’s.

The harm here was not just physical. It’s also psychological.

“Lord Ron, why do you want to know about the Mother Holy Tree?” Eveum asked.

Before answering Eveum, Ron counter-questioned, “Are you a follower of the Mother Holy Tree?”

Eveum couldn’t help but laugh a little, “Lord Ron, few witches believe in these things because, more often than not, we are the ones persecuted by them.”

Making the persecuted believe in something that persecuted them was truly a hellish joke.

“Really?” Ron glanced at Lilian.

“It is indeed like that,” Lilian confirmed.

“No wonder Moluna never talks about what she believes in,” Ron muttered.

Knowing that Eveum wasn’t a follower of the Mother Holy Tree, he confidently said, “Because this place is suffering from root withering, and I’m eager to solve this problem now.”

Evum remained silent for a moment, not immediately responding to this question.
