Chapter 36: My Wife and I Are Deeply in Love
In the afternoon, Leon asked Muen to take Little Light for literacy practice.
Muen was very excited, saying that she could finally experience what it feels like to be a teacher teaching students.
But Leon muttered in his heart that with Little Light’s understanding in learning, it was hard to say who was teaching whom.
However, he did not interfere too much with the two daughters at this stage. Before officially entering the ocean of knowledge, they had to find the right oars by themselves.
Respecting children’s choices should start from an early age, and Leon deeply understood this principle.
After arranging his daughters, Leon intended to talk to Rosvitha about the Nine Prisons Gate. After all, it was written by Claudia Poseidon of the Sea Dragon Clan, and Rosvitha, who also belonged to the dragon clan, might have a deeper understanding of some contents than Leon.
But Anna said that His Majesty went out to inspect the border and wouldn’t be back until night.
Alright, alright, Mother Dragon, you don’t even tell me when you go out now. I can’t stand living like this anymore. I’ll pick a fight with you when you come back, just wait!
Leon complained angrily in his heart, then went to the training ground.
Even without Rosvitha, he could still understand the contents of the Nine Prisons Gate.
Sitting cross-legged on the grass of the training ground, the warm afternoon breeze brushed Leon’s black hair, gently turning the pages of the ancient book in his hand, making a soft rustling sound.
When absorbing new knowledge, Leon could always immerse himself fully, which was the main reason why he learned things so quickly. And of course, when someone focuses entirely on something, they tend to overlook the passage of time.
Unconsciously, it was already dusk.
Leon finally put down the ancient book in his hand, stretched his arms wide, and sat on the ground, lazily stretching.
Looking up at the sunset on the horizon, Leon squinted slightly. “It’s almost evening, so Mother Dragon should be back by now.”
Muttering to himself, Leon was about to get up and go back. But the footsteps behind him made him sit back down.
At this time, besides Rosvitha, there shouldn’t be anyone else coming to the training ground. The queen was always accustomed to chatting and bickering with her captive husband after a long day, which was one of her ways to unwind.
Of course, if chatting didn’t work, Rosvitha would have to engage in a deeper conversation with Leon.
The footsteps disappeared, and a long silver tail appeared in Leon’s peripheral vision. He didn’t look directly but instead teased with a hidden meaning in his words, “Who could it be? Oh, it’s Your Majesty back, huh? Do you still remember you have me as your husband?”
As he finished speaking, Leon heard a puzzled “Hmm?”
Ah, silly dragon, not telling me when you go out, I’ll just tease you a bit today.
“It’s okay, I know Your Majesty is a busy person. If I get upset over such a trivial matter, it would make me look immature.”
“…”
“Speechless, Your Majesty? Do you want to apologize to me, Your Majesty?”
“…”
“Well, you’d better think carefully about how to apologize. I might not necessarily accept it.”
“…”
“Why aren’t you saying anything? At least say something, Mother Dragon.”
“Hello.”
At the sound of the voice, Leon’s smug smile froze instantly, then gradually peeled away and disappeared.
This voice… it’s so unfamiliar, it’s not Rosvitha’s!
He quickly stood up and looked up at the owner of the voice.
The other person was a slightly older woman, probably around fifty years old, but even with her age, it was still apparent that she was a stunning beauty in her youth.
Her tail color was not the silver that Leon had glimpsed just now but rather a pale pink, only appearing somewhat silver due to the reflection of the setting sun.
The woman was dressed in a simple long dress, standing elegantly with calm eyes, looking at Leon lightly.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Leon scratched his head and pursed his lips, stuttering, “Sorry… I mistook you for someone else.”
The woman smiled gently. “From your tone just now, it sounded like you were complaining to a lover.”
A lover?
Leon pondered.
A lover?!
Who’s the lover?
Who are you calling a lover?
I’m definitely not lovers (we’re married) with that Mother Dragon.
Although he kept denying it in his mind, Leon still had to play this scene well in front of outsiders.
“Just saying… Oh, by the way, may I ask who you are?”
The other person was a stranger, at least Leon had never seen her before. But since she could freely enter and exit the training ground of the Silver Dragon Temple, she should be acquainted with Rosvitha or perhaps a relative of one of the maids.
Rosvitha wasn’t a very strict boss; the maids’ relatives could come to the Silver Dragon Temple to visit, but only after the end of the day’s work. Leon had seen a few such scenes before.
Just like during the period of closed training at the Dragon Slayer Academy, when his master came to visit him, bringing food, clothes, giving hugs, chatting warmly. So Leon guessed that this lady was probably a relative of one of the maids.
The woman’s eyes flickered slightly, pondering for a moment before replying, “Someone in my family works here, so I came to see her.”
Ah, indeed, a maid’s relative.
“Well, but it’s about half an hour before the maids finish work. You’ll have to wait a bit.”
As a kind and friendly prince—this was the persona Rosvitha had given Leon—taking care of employees’ relatives was part of the job.
Since Leon had spent the afternoon studying the Nine Hells Gate and had nothing else to do, he could just chat with the old lady to pass the time. Besides, he could also wait for that Mother Dragon to come home.
The woman nodded. “Alright, then I’ll trouble you to chat with my old lady here.”
“No problem.”
“I noticed earlier you kept mentioning ‘Your Majesty’ so casually and naturally. Ordinary folks wouldn’t dare to do that, so… I presume you must be the husband of the Silver Dragon Queen?”
Leon blinked, momentarily feeling a bit tongue-tied. It wasn’t so much that he was surprised the woman could figure out his identity, but rather that even after realizing his identity, she could still chat with him in such a nonchalant and respectful manner. Even Anna, the head maid, addressed Leon with utmost respect when speaking to him.
Perhaps this woman had experienced a lot in life, so a prince didn’t mean much to her?
But in truth, Leon didn’t really mind the woman’s attitude when speaking to him. After all, he was just a fake prince, and he didn’t carry himself with an air of superiority. Moreover, considering the woman was older, Leon didn’t pay much attention to it.
“Well, it’s quite embarrassing. I mistook you for Rosvitha and said so many embarrassing things.”
The corners of the woman’s mouth curved slightly. “It’s okay. But since you can chat with such a natural tone and attitude, it means your relationship with the Silver Dragon Queen… is quite good, isn’t it?”
“…”
Auntie, you’re at such an age, why bother asking these gossipy questions like a young person?
“Young man, why do you look so troubled? Did I say something wrong? Is your relationship with the Silver Dragon Queen actually very bad?”
Upon hearing this, Leon quickly waved his hands in denial. “No, no, our relationship… with Rosvitha, it’s… very good, uh, very good.”
Maintaining the appearance of their affection in front of outsiders was crucial. Even if the woman was just a maid’s relative, who’s to say she wouldn’t mention a thing or two to others after she went back home?
If rumors spread that the Queen and the Prince were actually a couple with a strained relationship, it would jeopardize the carefully crafted image of their “loving couple” that Leon and Rosvitha had built over the past year!
“Is that so?” The woman seemed skeptical of Leon’s reaction.
Leon swallowed nervously. “Y-yes, we already have three children, so of course our relationship is very good.”
The woman raised an eyebrow slightly. “Already… three children?”
Goodness gracious, is this lady from another planet? Who in the Silver Dragon Clan doesn’t know that the Queen and the Prince got married three years ago and immediately had three kids? That fertility rate is practically explosive among the entire dragon race. How could she not have heard of it?
“It seems I’ve missed out on a lot of important things,” the woman murmured to herself.
“Huh? Were you not in the Silver Dragon Clan before?” Leon asked.
“Yeah, I had some business to attend to in a faraway place. I only recently came back,” the woman replied with a smile.
Then she asked with a grin, “So, do you and the Queen plan to have more babies?”
“Uh, well…”
The woman looked at Leon with the same friendly smile.
“You just used having three children as evidence that your relationship with the Queen is good. So, according to your logic, the more children you have, the better your relationship, right? So… are you planning to have even more babies?”
Auntie, that’s enough!
Can you not ask such outrageous questions just because you’re older? Do you think I, the kind and friendly Prince, have no temper?
“I also get angry when provoked!”
“This is a private matter between my wife and me, it’s not convenient to disclose too much to outsiders,” Leon said seriously.
The woman tilted her head slightly, squinting as she assessed Leon, then chuckled softly, “Alright, I’ve said too much, apologies, Your Highness. I just wanted to confirm your feelings for the Queen.”
Leon thought he had exercised considerable restraint. Even though the other party was of the Dragon Clan, they weren’t on a battlefield, so there was no need for hostility. Having a normal conversation was fine.
He was also willing to chat with an old lady who hadn’t seen her family in a long time. After all, his master would only see him once in a long while. Leon could understand the longing involved.
But this old dragon kept probing about his relationship with Rosvitha from the start, which made it hard not to feel irritated. He put his hands in his pockets and lowered his tone, “My wife and I love each other deeply, there’s no need to prove it, everyone knows.”
If Rosvitha were here and heard this, she might just cover General Leon’s mouth with her tail right away. It’s not that she wouldn’t want to hear it, but it would just be too embarrassing after hearing it! It’s like being showered with affection, accidentally shoving a handful into your own mouth.
Seeing Leon being so serious, both overtly and subtly defending his wife, the woman smiled with satisfaction, “Truly a man chosen by Little Rose.”
“Hmph.” This soft snort meant ‘Do you even need to say it?’
Leon originally wanted to continue sprinkling some affectionate words about him and Rosvitha to please the old lady.
However, as soon as he opened his mouth, he abruptly sensed something amiss. He stiffly turned his head to look at the woman beside him, then nervously swallowed.
After a long silence, Leon asked hesitantly, “You… what did you just call her?”
“Little Rose,” the woman replied naturally, “That’s what we all call her at home.”
Even grandma thinks that Leon an Rosvitha are a perfect match.
Everyone ships them, can’t blame them though. 🤣
You dense idiot! You knew that Rosvitha’s grandmother was going to visit any day now so as soon as you confirmed her to be an older relative you should have been suspicious. That she talked with him so casually after finding out he was the prince which he acknowledged should have been an instant red flag.
I wasn’t sure at some point, since I thought the grandmother was his master’s wife, but now I think the master’s wife (his adopted mother) is Claudia Poseidon, and the master is the reason why the sea dragons disappeared 30 years prior.
It’s funny to see the grandmother having a silver and pink tail.
5 mangos grandma juked the Mother Dragon to chat with her grandson-in-law privately.
It would be hilarious if she turned out to be like Isabella when she meets Noia and Muen.
