Chapter 51: Leon’s Bad Day
“Daddy, Daddy, wake up, it’s lunchtime~”
Leon was awakened by Little Light in a daze.
The moment he opened his eyes, his head throbbed painfully. He endured the discomfort and sat up, forcing a smile on his face. “Sorry, Little Light, Daddy accidentally fell asleep.”
“It’s okay, Daddy, let’s go eat.”
“Mm.”
Leon stood up. The midday sun poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the study, bathing him in its warmth. Yet he felt none of it.
Even in the moment of getting up—
“Achoo!”
That was his fourth sneeze of the day.
If his wife were here, she’d probably have dragged him to the clinic for a shot by now.
Little Light took Leon’s hand, looking up at him with concern. “Daddy, are you okay? Do you have a cold?”
Leon shook his head, still wearing a smile, albeit a strained one. His throat was slightly sore, his nose congested, and his lips a bit chapped.
With the persistent headache, he was probably coming down with something.
“Daddy’s fine, let’s go eat first.”
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Little Light was still worried.
“Yeah, I’m sure.”
With that, Leon thought about squatting down to pick up Little Light, then saying, ‘See, Daddy can still lift you up, nothing’s wrong at all.’
But the thought of potentially infecting his daughter if he really had a cold made him abandon the idea. He held Little Light’s hand and left the study, heading to the dining room. Rosvitha and Noia Muen were already having their meal.
“Mom, good afternoon, big sis, second sis, good afternoon~”
Little Light greeted everyone warmly, then ran to Noia Muen’s side. With her help, she successfully climbed onto the child’s dining chair.
Although there were no booster seats in the dining room, there was a reliable second sister.
Leon pulled out a chair and sat on one side of the table. The plate in front of him contained the lunch that the maids had prepared. He picked up his knife and fork, only taking a bite before poking at the food in his plate one by one.
Rosvitha glanced at him sideways. His face looked gloomy, but it didn’t seem like he was in a bad mood. Just simply… lacking appetite?
“Is it not to your taste?” Rosvitha withdrew her gaze, slowly cutting into the meat on her plate as she asked.
“Not… not very hungry,” Leon replied.
At the sound of his voice, Rosvitha’s hand paused. Something sounded off. Why did he sound hoarse?
“Are you sick?” She finally put down her fork, looking at Leon seriously.
Leon leaned his cheek on his hand, eyelids drooping, his voice lacking energy as he spoke, “No, I’m fine, not sick.”
Little Light blinked from across the table and immediately said, “Daddy sneezed just now.”
Rosvitha furrowed her brow slightly. “Isn’t that being sick?”
Leon scratched his nose stubbornly, “Just a sneeze, no need to make a fuss, I—”
Before he could finish his sentence, he felt a cool sensation on his forehead. It was Rosvitha’s hand, lightly pressed against his forehead. Realizing she was checking his temperature, Leon immediately grabbed her wrist, “What are you doing…”
“You have a fever, and you still say you’re not sick?”
“That… it’s just that your hands are too cold, everything feels hot to you.”
Rosvitha smirked, half-jokingly, “I thought you only stubbornly argue with me when it comes to emotions. I didn’t expect you to be like this when you’re sick.”
Leon gently kicked her shoe under the table, lowering his voice, “The kids are here, stop talking nonsense.”
“Oh, you remind me, the kids are here.”
Rosvitha shifted her gaze to the three little ones across the table, sitting upright, and asked seriously, “Babies, do you think it’s uncomfortable to be sick?”
Noia & Muen & Little Light: “Yes~”
“So, what should we do immediately after we get sick?”
Noia & Muen & Little Light: “Take medicine~”
Clap—
The queen was satisfied, clasping her hands together, smiling contently, “My babies are so sensible.”
Then, her expression quickly changed as she looked at Leon, “You see, even the kids know what to do when they’re sick. What are you, an adult, still trying to be a hero here?”
Leon chuckled, sarcastically remarking, “You sounded just like a newly employed kindergarten teacher a moment ago…”
Rosvitha couldn’t be bothered with him, “Finish your meal and then take your medicine. I have some in the bedside cabinet.”
“I won’t take it.”
Rosvitha raised an eyebrow, “How old are you? Do you still need to be coaxed into taking medicine?”
Leon seemed to hesitate, but it wasn’t hesitation. It was more like… difficult to express.
The queen’s mind immediately grasped the reason behind his reluctance to take medicine, his desire to be a hero.
“Are you… afraid of taking medicine?”
Noia Muen suddenly looked up at hearing this, food still in her mouth, staring at her dad in astonishment.
OK, the topic for the next composition will be: “This dad, who defeated Constantine in one move, is afraid of taking cold medicine.”
Facing Rosvitha’s questioning, Leon didn’t answer, his expression growing even grimmer.
That was as good as admitting it.
But it wasn’t exactly fear of taking medicine, more like a strong aversion to it. There wasn’t really a reason, he just naturally disliked the taste of medicine.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have thought about how his wife would have already dragged him to the clinic if she were here. Because on his own, he would never step foot in a place like that.
Rosvitha tapped the table lightly, not pushing him further to take the medicine.
Stubborn. When he’s in enough discomfort, he’ll obediently take the medicine and get injections.
Little Light glanced at her mom, then at her dad, blinking her pretty pink eyes. If Dad doesn’t like taking medicine… How about supplements?
…
Later in the evening, Leon’s cold worsened. The Dragon Slayer hero lay at the head of the bed, a towel on his forehead, a basin of hot water nearby, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Rosvitha stood by the bedside, arms crossed, holding cold medicine between her fingertips, looking at him with resignation. “If you don’t take this soon, you might not make it through the night.”
“Don’t nag.”
Leon’s head was pounding from the fever, his voice hoarse. “I think I saw my foster mother.”
“Weren’t you adopted by your master? Where did you get a foster mother from?”
The determined Leon summoned the last of his strength to raise a finger. “This is a… rhetorical… device.”
Rosvitha scoffed, “When you’re killed by a cold, I’ll have a myriad of rhetorical devices to mock you with.”
“No… I believe… I can defeat this illness.”
“Firstly, you can’t; secondly, a cold isn’t an illness, losing limbs or cancer are.”
“That’s also a rhetorical device…”
Rolling her eyes, Rosvitha tossed the cold medicine toward his pillow and ignored him.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door.
Rosvitha went to open it, finding the three little ones there.
Muen took the lead, “Mom, we’ve come to offer a tribute to Dad!”
Rosvitha: ?
“Tribute…?”
Sweetie, are you thinking of having steak again? But it’s too early. Your dad still has some time before he kicks the bucket. How about you come back later?
Noia Muen quickly pulled her sister back, saying, “It’s Little Light, she made a medicine, well, more like a health supplement.”
“A health supplement?”
Little Light nodded, “Since Daddy doesn’t like taking medicine, a health supplement should be fine. Anyway, the most important thing now is for Daddy to recover.”
Rosvitha’s eyes flickered. The herbs the girls could obtain were limited, and they had no adverse effects on the body. Even if it didn’t work, it didn’t matter. The daughter lying in bed would surely be willing to be their guinea pig.
“Alright, come in, Daddy’s in the bedroom.”
The three little dragonesses ran into the room, and after Rosvitha closed the door, she followed them in.
After expressing their concern to Leon, Little Light took out a pill from a small box.
It was called a pill, but it looked more like a chocolate candy.
Leon felt like he had seen this chocolate candy somewhere before, but he couldn’t remember where.
He wanted to refuse, but seeing the expectant faces of his daughters, as a doting father, he couldn’t bring himself to do so.
Well, let them use him as a guinea pig. He would pamper his own daughters.
Leon put the chocolate candy into his mouth. It indeed didn’t taste like medicine. After swallowing it with water, his body had no reaction.
Good, at least it shouldn’t be poisonous.
“Daddy, are you feeling better?” Little Light asked.
To avoid worrying them, Leon replied, “Much better, the medicine works wonders! Little Light is amazing, she can make medicine by herself.”
“Oh, actually… big sis helped me a lot too,” Little Light explained earnestly. “Extracting the residue from the herbs requires the use of lightning magic, and big sis is very skilled in lightning magic.”
Upon hearing this, a chill ran down Leon’s spine. A bad memory exploded in his mind. What kind of health supplement required the use of lightning magic for refinement?! He suppressed the trembling of his lips and asked, “Sweetie, did you follow the instructions from the medical book?”
“Yes, yes!”
“Was it the one in the nursery drawer…”
“Yes, yes!”
“Is that medicine called Dragon Strength…”
“Yes, yes! Daddy, you’re so smart, you guessed it all!”
Ha-ha, busted! It’s all over now!
he may end up revealing that he is human to his daughters because of this medicine
As expected of a doting father, taking medicine made by his daughters despite his aversion for medicine.
