Chapter 84: Good news, anti-armor evolution little cotton-padded jacket( Part 2 )
The two easily vaulted over the wall, while the guards on the other side had to set up ladders or take a detour, giving Leon and Noa enough time to maneuver.
They quickly left the imperial city and ducked into a dark alley, where Muun and Aurora were waiting with a carriage.
“No time to go back for those two hostages. We need to leave the empire before dawn.”
Leon leaped into the carriage. “The dragon scales are secure, so avoid fighting if possible. There’s no need to get entangled with these people.”
The last thing you want in enemy territory is a drawn-out battle. Even though Leon’s strength had recovered somewhat, he didn’t want to take any more risks by engaging with the empire’s forces.
He never forgot the real reason for this perilous journey back to the empire—the heart-protecting dragon scales.
Now that they had the scales, it was time for a quick retreat.
Aurora snapped the reins, and with a neigh, the carriage sped off.
Sitting inside the violently shaking carriage, Leon suddenly became nostalgic. “This scene… feels familiar.”
Noa glanced up at him. “What? Have you been caught stealing before?”
Leon didn’t elaborate, but instead teased, “I stole your mother’s heart and got captured by her for three years.”
“Ugh, thanks for that. I think I’m going to be sick.”
Why is it that when Mom tells the same story, it’s so romantic and emotional, but when this guy tells it, it feels like a comedy?
Leon’s corny joke temporarily eased the tension.
He stood up and stepped outside the carriage to check behind them. The patrol squads had already begun to give chase.
Leon raised his right hand, gathering magical energy in his palm.
In the next moment, a fierce wolf made of lightning leaped from his palm, charging toward the pursuing soldiers.
“A-rank Lightning Magic: Thunder Wolf Armybreaker.”
But as Leon had anticipated, fighting on enemy turf was all disadvantageous.
More and more patrol squads appeared, flooding the streets in pursuit.
But that wasn’t the worst part.
Noa looked up to see three figures leaping onto the rooftops, approaching the carriage from both sides.
“It’s the Dagger Trio…” Noa muttered darkly.
Leon followed her gaze and sure enough, those three were far more agile than the regular patrols.
“Hey, hey, hey! Uncle down there, driving the carriage! Mind giving us a lift?” the trio’s
Leon was taken aback for a moment but immediately responded, “Who are you calling old man!”
“Leon Casmodeus, I know you. You must be in your forties by now, right? People in their forties are old men,” said the leader of the trio.
“Captain, even though according to the timeline he is in his forties, why does he look like he’s only in his twenties?” asked another member, Kitei.
“I don’t know, maybe… he takes good care of himself? It doesn’t matter. Once I knock him down, I’ll ask him for the secret to eternal youth!” the captain replied.
Leon narrowed his eyes slightly and muttered, “What big words you have.”
Someone like this, with such a neurotic personality, was never easy to deal with.
Leon wasn’t in the mood to fight.
After a few exchanges of insults, he stopped responding to the three neurotics.
But since the “Dagger Trio” had shown up, that meant things wouldn’t be resolved so easily.
“Hey! Casmodeus, where have you hidden Nacho? He still owes us a meal!” Kinei continued to taunt.
Leon ignored him and raised his hand again, casting a lightning spell to clear some of the pursuers behind them.
“Hmph, daring to ignore me. You should have been buried a long time ago, old man… Take this!” Kinei shouted, launching his attack.
As he spoke, Kinei gathered magical energy in his hands, and a white energy sphere formed, hurling it at the speeding carriage.
The orb hit the ground beside the carriage with a loud explosion and shockwave.
Of course, that was just an appetizer.
In the next second, more energy orbs fell from the buildings on either side of the street.
Aurora, controlling the carriage, skillfully dodged them at high speed.
“Father, do you want to fight back? I almost got hit just now!” Aurora shouted from the front.
“You just focus on driving. Leave the plan to your father,” Leon said.
Leon’s mind raced as he quickly recalled his skillset.
Soon, Leon came up with a countermeasure.
He jumped onto the roof of the carriage, crouched down, lowering his center of gravity to maintain balance.
“Hey, old man, finally ready to get serious with us?” Kinei taunted.
Leon didn’t respond.
He raised his right hand high, lightning energy gathering in his palm.
Kinei raised an eyebrow. “What’s that move, old man? ‘Heavenly Thunder?’ ‘Thunder Wolf Breaker?’ Or your proud ‘Thousand Birds’? Let me tell you, those moves won’t work on us!”
As Kinei finished speaking, the other two members of the trio prepared for their next attack.
But just as they were about to strike, Leon’s lightning suddenly burst with an incredibly bright light.
The light illuminated the entire night sky, as bright as daylight.
The Dagger Trio’s vision was instantly overwhelmed by the light, and they couldn’t see what was happening on the street.
B-level Lightning Magic: Polar Daylight.
It was a very useful support spell.
After a few seconds, the light dissipated, and Kinei’s vision returned.
He looked at the carriage, which had already sped away, and felt completely outwitted by Leon.
Kinei gritted his teeth and ordered, “Chase! Get that guy! I want to see if the former greatest dragon slayer is only good at tricks like this!”
The trio quickened their pace and chased after the carriage.
But they didn’t notice that during the brief moment, they had lost their sight, Leon and the girls had jumped off the carriage and hidden in a nearby alley.
This was just a delaying tactic.
Although Kinei was a bit neurotic, he wasn’t stupid, and would soon realize the carriage was empty.
“Quick, let’s go before the other patrols spot us,” Leon urged.
“Yes, Father,” Aurora replied.
