Chapter 85: Come, Call Godmother ( Part 1 )

Father and daughter carefully made their way to the alley’s other exit.

Just as they were about to leave the alley, they heard voices coming from the exit.

“Did you hear? Lord Nacho has gone missing.”

“Yeah, apparently he was taken by that Leon Casmodeus.”

“Leon… Casmodeus? Wasn’t he supposed to have died twenty years ago?”

“Who knows, all I know is that guy is ridiculously strong. They sent us to hunt him down, it’s a death sentence. So if we see him, we’ll just fire a signal flare and call for backup.”

“Got it!”

It was a patrol squad.

The moonlight cast their shadows as they neared the alley’s exit.

Leon couldn’t determine how many people were in the patrol, so he wasn’t sure if he could handle them as he did with the four guards earlier.

If he couldn’t finish them off in an instant, they would fire a signal flare, and the Dagger Trio, who had just left, would immediately come back, turning it into a full-fledged battle.

Leon focused intently on the approaching figures, slowly gathering energy in his hands.

He wasn’t afraid of facing the Dagger Trio; he just worried about being delayed here and eventually being worn down by the Empire’s forces.

But given the circumstances… he had no choice but to take a gamble.

The footsteps grew clearer, and the three sisters readied themselves for a surprise attack.

But just as they were about to make their move, they heard a few screams from the exit of the alley.

“Signal flare! Quick, fire the signal—”

Bang—!

A muffled gunshot rang out, sounding like it had a silencer.

Leon was startled. Was someone taking out the patrol?

“I think I just heard a familiar name,” a mature female voice said from the alley’s entrance.

The soft click of high-heeled boots echoed on the stone pavement as the woman stepped over the bodies and stood at the alley’s exit.

She wore a windbreaker, and although she wasn’t very tall, her figure was perfectly proportioned.

The silenced handgun in her hand gleamed under the cold moonlight, and her cyan ponytail swayed gently in the night breeze.

She looked at Leon, her eyes shifting slightly, “Long time no see… Captain.”

“Rebecca…” Leon said softly.

Twenty years have passed, and Rebecca, as a pure-blooded human who has not crossed the space rift, has naturally grown and aged in a world where “Leon Casmode” does not exist.

She no longer had the same frantic and neurotic energy she once did. Just a simple “Long time no see” now conveyed a deep sense of calm and restraint.

Although her height hadn’t increased, her fashion sense had undergone a significant transformation. She wore tailored trousers with a black trench coat, which highlighted her figure.

Her signature double ponytails from the past had now been changed to a single ponytail, likely for easier management.

Leon hadn’t expected to reunite with Rebecca under such circumstances. He opened his mouth, suppressing his shock and excitement, and said, “I thought that after Master left, you wouldn’t be in the Empire anymore.”

Rebecca put away her gun and walked over. “My father had to stop his activities in the Empire because of his age, but I’m still full of energy, so there was no reason for me to leave. Besides…”

Rebecca tilted her head slightly, her gaze moving past Leon to look at the three girls behind him.

Leon followed her gaze and remembered that Rebecca had probably never met his daughters. She had only seen pictures of Noa and Muen as children.

He then introduced, “Oh, these are my—”

“Daughters.” Rebecca interrupted with a calm tone. “I know.”

“Huh? You… have met them?”

Before Rebecca could answer, Noa walked over, casually standing next to her and smiling as she greeted, “Aunt Rebecca.”

Rebecca’s cyan eyes flashed with a hint of displeasure and helplessness as she sighed, “How many times have I said it? Don’t call me ‘Aunt,’ it makes me sound old.”

“But you’re the same generation as Dad, so we can only call you ‘Aunt.’” Aurora explained slowly, standing behind them with her hands in her pockets.

“Mm, Sister and Xiao Guang are right!” Muen chimed in.

Rebecca crossed her arms and looked up at Noa, who was about a head taller than her, then coldly remarked, “It’s been years, and you three seem to have only focused on growing taller. What’s going on in your heads?”

Her skill in sarcasm had declined somewhat.

However, Leon, listening to the conversation between his old teammate and his daughters, seemed to realize something.

“Noa, the very reliable informant you mentioned… is it Rebecca?”

Noa nodded, “Twenty years ago when you disappeared into the space rift, the news spread quickly in the Empire. Grandpa Tiger and Aunt Rebecca found out and, risking being discovered, contacted Mom. That’s when we met.”

“It was still in that mountain cave, when Dad and I decided to stay in the Empire, hoping to find a way to reopen the space rift. If we couldn’t, we would have to take our revenge for you.”

Rebecca continued, “For the past twenty years, my father and I have always been on the wanted list. Twice we were caught, but luckily, Martin worked behind the scenes in the royal family and helped us escape, covering it up as an accident.”

“Martin… How is he now?” Leon asked.
