Chapter 34: Test Your Bloodline ( Part 1 )
After a while, Selena informed Loisver that the photos wouldn’t be ready until the evening.
While waiting for the photos to be developed, the Melkwei family wandered around Sky City.
Isa and Grandma Veronica quietly walked behind, maintaining some distance from Loisver, León, and the children.
“Grandma, after talking with you last night, I’ve decided to test my brother-in-law’s bloodline.” Isa whispered.
Grandma Veronica seemed to have anticipated this, as her eldest granddaughter had always been an action-oriented person and never a ‘flash-in-the-pan’ type.
“How do you plan to test it?”
“Yesterday, we listed a few of the more likely species, right? I’ll start by testing these few first.”
Isa said, “We can assess my brother-in-law based on each species’ natural abilities and traits, then deduce his origins based on his performance. What do you think, Grandma?”
Grandma Veronica looked at León’s back, her thoughts stirred, and after a brief silence, she responded, “Alright. Which species do you plan to test first?”
Isa thought for a moment and replied, “Let’s start with… the Garuda Tribe.”
Grandma raised an eyebrow, “Are you familiar with this species?”
Isa grinned mischievously but didn’t answer directly. Instead, she leaned in closer to Grandma and asked, “Grandma, have you noticed anything different about me today?”
Grandma looked at her eldest granddaughter’s pretty, delicate face, inspecting her from head to toe before finally focusing on her eyes. “You have dark circles under your eyes.”
“Right~”
Isa laughed, “I stayed up late last night checking out the biological traits of those species, just so I could test my brother-in-law’s bloodline today!”
Grandma shook her head and smiled bitterly, “If you put this kind of dedication into the development of the tribe, the Red Dragons would already be among the top dragon races.”
Though Grandma Veronica said that, Isa’s Red Dragon tribe, along with Loisver’s Silver Dragon tribe, could still rank highly among all the dragon races.
What Grandma said was purely an expression of a parent’s hope for their child.
Isa waved her hand and returned to the topic,
“The Garuda Tribe rules the skies, with extremely strong dynamic vision and night vision.”
“My brother-in-law is really good at close combat, so his dynamic vision must be impressive.”
“Now… I want to test his night vision.”
Veronica nodded, “So, how do you plan to do that?”
Isa smiled mysteriously and then stopped walking, pointing to a store by the roadside, “There, this place.”
Veronica followed Isa’s finger and looked at the building —
A haunted house?
“You plan to use a childish activity like this to test your brother-in-law’s bloodline? How naïve, Isa.”
Dragons, with their long lifespans, experience countless dangers and unknowns. Even the most laid-back tribes have faced great storms.
So, ‘haunted houses’ like this one were generally reserved for young dragons and those who had never ventured far.
Isa shrugged, “Of course, I know a haunted house won’t scare my brother-in-law, but the point isn’t to scare him. The key is that the environment in the haunted house is perfect for testing night vision. If he walks through it easily, like it’s nothing, his bloodline definitely has some issues.”
Isa’s idea made some sense.
Dragons were indeed one of the most nearly perfect species on the continent of Samayel, but they did have a few minor flaws.
For example… vision.
More specifically — night vision.
A dragon’s pupils are vertically slitted, similar to a narrow crack.
This eye structure allows them to precisely track every movement of their opponent and instantly lock onto prey while moving at high speeds.
But the downside is that these vertical pupils cannot absorb much light, especially at night, so their vision weakens slightly.
(When in humanoid form, their pupils change a little, but the dragon race still suffers from poor night vision.)
Of course, this doesn’t mean dragons turn into blind creatures at night.
The so-called ‘weak night vision’ is just a relative weakness compared to their other top-tier abilities.
Even in a dark environment like a haunted house, dragons, no matter how experienced they were, wouldn’t be able to clearly see their surroundings.
Isa wanted to use this to test her brother-in-law’s bloodline.
“Alright, let’s do it your way.” Veronica agreed.
Isa was a bit surprised, “Oh, Grandma, I thought you wouldn’t join me in this.”
“Heh… let’s just say it’s a small ripple in the otherwise quiet life of old age.”
Veronica’s gaze lingered on León’s back as she lowered her voice, “Besides… I’m also very curious about the kind of man Loisver ended up marrying.”
With the plan confirmed, Isa immediately called the others to join her in the haunted house.
As soon as they heard they were going to a haunted house, the children were the most excited.
Noia: “Great, I’ll act calm in the haunted house so that I look more like an adult!”
Mu’en: “Great! As soon as I see a ghost, I’ll hide in my sister’s arms!”
Guang: “Great! I can go scare the ghosts!”
Seeing how eager the daughters were, the couple didn’t have any objections.
“I’m not going to join you guys, my old heart can’t take it. I’ll wait for you at the exit.” Veronica said.
“Okay, Grandma.”
The group bought their tickets, and the staff reminded them,
“No dragon flame or any other lighting magic is allowed in the haunted house. If you can’t find the exit, you can recite the ‘spell’ on the ticket, and a ‘little elf’ will guide you out.”
León looked down at the ‘spell’ on the ticket.
Got it.
It’s the safety word!
He had actually been planning to come up with a set of safety words with Loisver, because with her S-level attributes often awakening, he wasn’t sure he could handle it.
