The Cannon Fodder Turns His Sister Into A Soaring Phoenix C306

Chapter 306: Wan’er takes the blame

In the blink of an eye, it was mid-May, and the breeze carried the scorching heat, sweeping through the green forests atop the mountains, adding restlessness to the already sweltering Central Domain.

As dusk approached, the golden sunlight painted the mountain contours in hues of gold. Tianan City hung between several towering mountain peaks. On the surrounding city walls, countless thick iron cables connected to the surrounding mountains, suspending the entire city above a vast lake.

Ye Anping rode his horse with Pei Lianxue and Feng Yudie in front and behind him. They halted on the peak of one of the mountains overlooking the suspended city below, where the lights of revelry glowed brightly.

Liang Zhu stood silently on a flying sword, hovering nearby. Su Wan’er rode her white horse forward, joining Ye Anping and the others. She followed Ye Anping’s gaze to Tainan City below and asked curiously,

“What are you planning to do, Mr. Ye?”

“What do you mean, Miss Su?”

“I’m referring to what happened with the envoy earlier. Once the Governor of the Heavenly Execution Court dies, the court will surely learn of it immediately. Your elder brother went out with that person. Now that person is dead, but your brother is still alive. The Heavenly Execution Court will undoubtedly suspect your brother, and he won’t be able to defend himself when they come for him.”

Ye Anping chuckled and replied,

“I will testify for him as a disciple of the Xuanxing Sect when the time comes, and I have someone who will take the blame for us.”

“Take the blame!” Su Wan’er raised her eyebrows curiously. “Who?”

“Thief Immortal, didn’t she take Jianghe’s spiritual spear?”

At these words, Su Wan’er was slightly shocked. Throughout the journey, she had been curious about how Ye Anping planned to cover up the death of the Heavenly Execution Court’s Governor. But it seemed that Ye Anping intended to pin the blame on her instead!

Seeing her bewildered expression, Ye Anping found it somewhat amusing and said,

“The person who killed the Heavenly Execution Court’s Governor was Thief Immortal. Anyway, there were only a few of us present at the time, so we can fabricate a story however we want. Besides, Thief Immortal did indeed show up there. Blaming someone absent is the most common way to buy time.”

“But what if Heavenly Execution Court catches Thief Immortal later and exposes you?”

“Well, Heavenly Execution Court still has to catch him first. Thief Immortal has been elusive in the Southwest Domain for decades without being caught. It’s not so easy to apprehend him.”

Ye Anping looked Su Wan’er up and down, then shook his head, sighed, and praised,

“Thief Immortal’s escape skills are quite impressive. If there’s a chance later, I would like to invite her for tea and a chat.

“I like to hear this…” Su Wan’er smiled, then asked,

“What would you chat about?”

“I have something I’d like her to help with.”

“What is it?”

“Why are you asking, Miss Su? You’re not Thief Immortal.”

“I’m just curious, is that not allowed?”

Ye Anping shook his head slightly without replying, then tightened the reins and turned the horse’s head, descending the mountain along the path.

Observing the horse with three riders, Su Wan’er curled her lips slightly, feeling dissatisfied. She had helped these people kill the governor of the Heavenly Execution Court, yet Ye Anping still wanted to shift the blame onto her.

What a little rascal who repay kindness with enmity. However, she rather liked it. The more cunning this Ye fellow was, the more benefits she would reap by following him.

“Hey! Wait… Drive!!”

Su Wan’er quickly swung the horse rope and followed on horseback.

Five people and two horses slowly descended along the mountain road. After a while, an eagle cry suddenly came from above,

Roar~~~~

Feng Yudie, resting her face against Ye Anping’s back, instantly woke up. “Huh! What kind of bird is making such a loud noise?”

Liang Zhu looked up and saw the eagle hovering around them. He reminded, “Lao Liu, the people from the Heavenly Execution Court are here.”

“I know.”

Ye Anping nodded slightly and gently pulled the horse’s rope to stop the horse. He signaled Su Wan’er not to act rashly.

A gentle breeze caressed the leaves on both sides of the mountain road, making a swishing sound. Two men in golden robes emerged from the forest on both sides of the road. They stopped ten feet away from Ye Anping and others, eyeing them warily.

At the same time, two cabinet disciples of the Heavenly Execution Court also walked out on both sides of the road behind Ye Anping.

After surrounding Ye Anping and his group, one of them stepped forward and addressed Liang Zhu, who was holding the sword, with a respectful gesture.

“We’ve been waiting for a long time. Your Excellency previously sent back the jade slips to inform us of the death of the envoy Jianghe. The Heavenly Execution Court instructed us to be here to receive you.”

Liang Zhu jumped off the flying sword and presented his Heavenly Execution Court’s identity card from his storage bag.

“Thank you, seniors.”

The man glanced at Liang Zhu’s identity card and then looked at Ye Anping and his companions.

“May I ask who the three fellow Daoists on this black horse are?”

Ye Anping, accompanied by Feng Yudie and Pei Lianxue, dismounted and presented his Xuanxing Sect identity card, bowing respectfully.

“I’m Ye Anping, and accompanying me are my junior and senior sisters. All three of us are disciples of the Xuanxing Sect. While passing through Yuan Quan Town, we encountered Senior Liang and Jianghe and witnessed the entire process of Jianghe’s demise. Thus, I have come along to provide testimony.”

Upon seeing the identification card, the Xing Tiansi cabinet disciple respectfully bowed and then directed his gaze towards Su Wan’er, who was atop the white horse, and continued his inquiry,

“May I ask who this lady is?”

Su Wan’er felt awkward, lacking any means to prove her identity. After a moment of thought, she quickly dismounted, returned the gesture, and then ran to Ye Anping’s side, stating,

“I’m with them.”

Perhaps due to Su Wan’er’s attire, which clearly didn’t resemble that of a sect disciple, and her slightly panicked demeanor, the man furrowed his brow slightly and asked,

“Are you also a disciple of the Xuanxing Sect?”

Su Wan’er lightly touched Ye Anping’s arm, silently asking with her eyes if she could borrow the identity of a Xuanxing Sect disciple. However, seeing her gesture, Ye Anping smiled faintly, grasped her wrist, and signaled to Feng Yudie and Pei Lianxue nearby.

Pei Lianxue and Feng Yudie immediately understood. The former reached out and grabbed Su Wan’er’s other wrist while Feng Yudie hugged Su Wan’er’s waist.

Su Wan’er was left feeling somewhat bewildered by this reaction. Why were these two girls and this man named Ye grabbing her?

But the next moment, Liang Zhu standing in front, spoke a sentence that jolted everyone,

“These four, this young lady is the one who killed Governor Jiang, also known as the infamous ‘Thief Immortal.'”

“What?”

Su Wan’er’s eyes widened, but the next moment, three spiritual swords were crossed directly in front of her neck, causing her to hold her breath momentarily.

Ye Anping smiled at Su Wan’er and whispered, “Miss Su, are you curious as to why I know this?”

Su Wan’er swallowed slightly and said with a silly smile, “Ah, haha… Mr. Ye, this joke is not funny. How could I be the Thief Immortal? You see, I have been following you…”

“Miss Su, it doesn’t matter whether you are the Thief Immortal. What is important is that our three Xuanxing Sect disciples say you are, and Captain Liang also says you are,” Ye Anping replied softly, his eyes narrowing.

“Just help us take the blame,” He added.
