The Cannon Fodder Turns His Sister Into A Soaring Phoenix C345

Chapter 345: Protagonist, Feng Yudie Dreams of Ye

The silver-winged butterfly gracefully flapped its wings, descending onto the willow branches in the small courtyard.

In the ancient cave on the side of Yuxu Mountain, the scent of roasted chicken filled the air. A large round table displayed about a dozen steaming roast chickens. Gathered around the table, everyone engaged in lively conversation.

Feng Yudie stood puzzled on the podium, her mind swirling. She couldn’t comprehend why she was standing there, adorned in a crimson robe.

Suddenly, the voice of Master Taixu resonated from behind, “Yudie, why are you standing there dazed? Quickly go and escort the bride to the altar,” He urged.

Feng Yudie turned to see her master seated in the hall, dressed in celestial robes. Bewildered, she timidly inquired, “Master… Aren’t you already departed?”

Master Taixu frowned and tossed a red date at her, scolding, “Are you cursing your master? I should have sold you for wine money.”

“Ah…” Feng Yudie rubbed her forehead, timidly lowering her gaze. “But, I remember…”

“Forget it,” Master Taixu waved dismissively. “The bride is waiting for you. Go and fetch her, the crane will soon deliver the baby.”

Feng Yudie glanced at the red-veiled girl standing by the courtyard gate, then back at the hall where Sect Master Ye from the Hundred Lotus Sect sat.

Realizing the identity of the veiled girl, she exclaimed, “Pei… Junior Sister Pei!”

Feng Yudie’s eyes lit up with delight as she hurriedly approached, gently taking the veiled woman’s hand and leading her back to the ceremony stage.

Master Taixu nodded with a smile at them, lightly flicking the duster in her hand as a “puff-puff” sound of flapping wings echoed above.

A crane, clutching a basket in its beak, descended from the sky to the duo. Inside the basket, a baby with just a few silver strands atop his head slept blissfully, nibbling on his right thumb.

Master Taixu rose with a smile, spreading his hands as he spoke, “Yudie, this is your child… Hurry and take him.”

Yudie hesitated briefly, glancing shyly at the bride beside her before summoning the courage to gently grip her shoulder. “Pei Junior, I’ll be good to you forever.”

She moistened her lips with a swallow, and lifted a corner of the red veil, revealing Ye Anping’s face beneath.

Ye Anping, with a faint blush on his cheeks, met her gaze with calm, deep purple eyes.

The calm gaze…

The calm…

… …

“Ha–!”

A sharp inhale shattered the tranquility of the room.

Feng Yudie sat up abruptly, gasping heavily. Relief washed over her as she realized it was just a dream, sighing and covering her chest.

“…Sigh–“

She closed her eyes for a moment, then turned to the window where moonlight seeped through. After a brief moment of confusion, she recollected the events prior.

“I seem to have been with the Demon Emperor…”

Feng Yudie murmured, then slowly glanced down at her collar. It appeared that either Junior Sister Pei or Senior Sister Xiao had changed her clothes while she slept. She was now dressed in a loose, snow-white robe.

After undoing the collar, she could see a bandage wrapped around her chest, stained with a little blood. Underneath the bandage were the words “Heaven’s Blessing” and “Ye Anping,” as if they were branded rather than printed on the skin, lying beneath the surface.

Feng Yudie tried to unbutton it with her fingers, but it wouldn’t budge. A row of black lines creased her face as she looked around and called out, “Xiao Tian.”

No response came. Feng Yudie pursed her lips, glanced around, then got out of bed and walked barefoot to the door, pushing it open slightly.

The rooms on the second floor of the inn were dimly lit, indicating that Pei Lianxue and the others were already asleep. Feng Yudie hesitated for a moment, then tiptoed to Pei Lianxue’s door, hesitated again, and raised her hand to knock. But just before her hand touched the door, she heard the faint sound of a flute from the rooftop.

Woo woo——woo——

The flute’s melodious and soothing tune, though late at night, was not disturbing, but rather perfectly complemented the moonlit night.

Feng Yudie’s ears twitched, and after listening for a moment, her eyes widened. Spotting a ladder to the roof around the corner, she hurried over. This melody was crafted by her mentor.

During her childhood, whenever the moon shone bright, her mentor would dash to the mountaintop and serenade with this tune on a jade flute. Although Feng Yudie didn’t recognize it as her mentor’s, besides her mentor and herself, no one else could have heard this composition.

Pushing open the skylight leading to the roof, Feng Yudie cautiously peered up the ladder. There, she beheld a dashing young man in green, seated on the tiles, gently playing a jade flute.

Moonlight bathed Ye Anping, casting a dreamlike glow upon him. Feng Yudie found herself transfixed on the skylight cover, frozen on the stairs. Before long, the song concluded, rousing everyone.

Ye Anping set down the jade flute from his lips, and Xiao Tian, perched on his head, promptly applauded.

“Anping, you played splendidly! You managed to remember the tune after just one lesson!” Xiao Tian exclaimed.

“Hehe…” Ye Anping chuckled, feeling a twinge of nostalgia.

Having some free time, Ye Anping picked up a jade flute and asked Xiao Tian to teach him a tune. He intended to show off to his junior sister, but to his surprise, the tune Xiao Tian taught him was the background music from the “Legend of the Heavenly Sword” game’s login interface.

Noticing Feng Yudie peeking at them, Xiao Tian’s eyes lit up, and he flew over.

“Feng Yudie! Are you awake?” He exclaimed.

“Yeah, I’m awake…” Feng Yudie nodded, climbing the stairs to the house. She carefully approached Ye Anping, fixating on his face.

Moonlight illuminated Feng Yudie, dressed in white, as the night breeze stirred the silver threads gently. Ye Anping felt a bit uneasy when she saw him, and suddenly felt puzzled, asking,

“What’s up? Why are you staring like that? Is there something on my face?”

Feng Yudie was silent for a moment, then folded her skirt and sat down, hugging her knees, and said,

“I had a dream.”

“Hmm… What dream?”

“I dreamt that you were wearing a wedding gown, with a red veil, marrying me.”

Ye Anping was bewildered for a moment and asked in response, “…So?”

Feng Yudie rested her face on her thigh, turned to look at Ye Anping, blinked her eyes, and chuckled,

“You look pretty good in a wedding dress, hehe…”

Ye Anping helplessly raised her hand, grabbing her face and pinching it firmly,

“So you’re asking for it, huh! I even prepared roast chicken for you, don’t tell me you don’t want it now?”

“Ah! Roast chicken…” Feng Yudie’s eyes lit up at the mention of roast chicken, quickly suppressing a smile, “…Just kidding, I didn’t say anything.”

Ye Anping rolled her eyes at her, sighed softly, withdrew her hand, and took out a roast chicken wrapped in oilcloth from her bag, handing it over,

“Here.”

“Hehe…”

Feng Yudie looked at the roast chicken with excitement, took it, tore off the oilcloth paper without caring if the oil would stain her white clothes, and started eating eagerly.

Watching her for a while, Ye Anping rested her head on her palms and lay on the roof, gazing at the eastern mountains, waiting for the sunrise.

After Feng Yudie gnawed the roast chicken down to the bones, she fell satisfied beside him, patting her slightly bulging belly and letting out a cute burp,

“Hiccup~~~”

She glanced at Ye Anping, who was focused on looking into the distance, then suddenly got distracted. After a moment, she realized what she was doing and subconsciously raised her hand to punch Ye Anping in the face again.

Ye Anping hadn’t anticipated this guy suddenly throwing a punch, hastily raising his hand to block, but still, a tad too late, the blow landed squarely on his nose bone.

Click

Ye Anping’s eyes twitched as he glanced toward Feng Yudie, gritting his teeth he asked, “What’s the deal with you? Huh!”

“Ah…”

Feng Yudie, startled, finally snapped back to reality, shrinking her neck timidly, waving her hands as if to offer help, and asked, “Ah… Sorry. Young Master Ye, are you… alright?”

Ye Anping observed her flustered demeanor in silence for a while but paid it no mind. After all, this guy had a history of being jittery, so he held his breath, raised his hand, and with a twist, clicked his crooked nose bone back into place.

Then, he reached out and twisted Feng Yudie’s right cheek into a twist.

Feng Yudie quickly begged for mercy, her cheeks flushing slightly, as she lowered her head and said, “Oh… Sorry, I just… felt like you were trying to seduce me… again…”

Ye Anping stared at her for a moment, slowly retracting his hand, and changed the subject, “The Demon Emperor wants the Heavenly Dao Scroll, he’ll inevitably come after both of us. This won’t be settled without a fight, I have no escape in front of him, but you can at least save yourself. The Mysterious Yin Technique can draw spiritual energy from the spiritual veins of Tianan City using the Nine Dragon Heaven Seal. As long as it’s not instant death, we can save you.”

“Why does he want the Heavenly Dao Scroll anyway?”

Ye Anping shrugged slightly, answering, “He’s quite devoted. Thousands of years ago, his Daoist partner died, but her death was mysterious. He’s been searching for answers ever since but to no avail. In the end, he placed his hopes on the Heavenly Dao Scroll.”

Feng Yudie was mildly surprised, furrowing her brows in confusion as she asked, “Why doesn’t he just ask? I could help him investigate; that way, he wouldn’t resort to swinging his sword at the first sign…”

“You’re a human cultivator. Do you think he’ll believe your word alone?”

“…Fair point.”

Ye Anping shook his head, sighing, “It’s a tough situation.”

“Over the past millennium, Hu Mu has consulted many individuals, but most of those who provided answers only sought to exploit him to eliminate someone.”

Feng Yudie pondered, resting her chin on her hand for a moment before nodding and saying, “Driving the tiger to devour the wolf!”

“Hu Mu’s Daoist companion passed away many years ago, and any traces or evidence have long vanished. Now, if he seeks to uncover the culprit, he must rely solely on the ancient tome known as the ‘Record of Ten Thousand Years,’ known to heaven and earth.”

Feng Yudie turned to glance at Xiao Tian, noticing it was keeping its distance. Feeling puzzled, she asked, “Xiao Tian, why are you keeping your distance?”

“Oh… hehe.” Xiao Tian wanted to give the two some privacy. Flying over when called by Feng Yudie, it asked, “Nothing, nothing. What did you want me to do, Yudie?”

“Look into what happened to Hu Mu’s Daoist companion.”

“When Anping mentioned it earlier, I already investigated. His companion perished at the hands of the Heavenly Demon Sect’s leader. The fox demon’s name was Fox Yulan. She sacrificed herself to stop the sect leader while accompanying a cultivator named Bai Yurou to the Eastern Domain.”

“Bai Yurou! Who’s that?”

Ye Anping continued, “She was the previous holder of the Heavenly Dao Scroll, a disciple of the Taibai Sect, and a close friend of Hu Mu’s. Unfortunately, although Hu Yulan managed to halt the Heavenly Demon Sect’s leader, she didn’t survive the Eastern Domain and succumbed to its poison.”

“That’s unfortunate…”

Listening, Feng Yudie couldn’t help but show a hint of regret in her eyes. After pondering for a moment, she said, “How should we convey this to the Demon King?”

“Just tell him the truth. I suspect he’ll come looking for us with that mischievous fox in tow.”

“Mischievous fox!”

“The little fox demon who followed him before. Remember! Her name is Xue Tianqiao. She has a naturally keen sense of smell and can detect the scent of the heavenly Dao Scroll. Also, because of her resemblance to Hu Yulan, Hu Mu can’t stay mad at her.”

“Oh…”

Feng Yudie nodded in agreement and then imitated Ye Anping, lying down on the tiles of the roof.

She glanced once more at Ye Anping’s face, squinted, and smiled,

“Young Master Ye.”

“What?”

“You’re much better than Xiao Tian, hehe -”

Ye Anping glanced over, asking,

“Are you complimenting me or insulting me?”

“A compliment.” Feng Yudie relaxed, stretched, and said, “Every time I encounter something, Xiao Tian just cries and fusses in my ears, completely useless.”

Xiao Tian, hearing this, puffed up his cheeks, rushed forward, grabbed Feng Yudie’s head, kicked her a few times, then bit her head, saying,

“Feng Yudie! Who do you think is useless? Ouch~~!!”

Feng Yudie smiled helplessly, sat up, looked at Ye Anping beside her, and smiled.

At that moment, the sun peeked out from behind the eastern mountains, painting the horizon red. The morning light illuminated Feng Yudie’s smooth face, adding a touch of sweetness to her demeanor, and erasing some of her silliness.

With her charming smile and captivating presence, Ye Anping found himself somewhat entranced.

At that moment, Feng Yudie lowered her gaze, blushing slightly, and spoke delicately,

“Young Master Ye…”

After hesitating for a while, she pursed her lips and pondered before saying,

“Can I sleep with Junior Sister Pei tonight? I want to repay her kindness and give her a child… Junior Sister Pei saved me, and… Young Master Ye, can you lend us the sparrow?”

Ye Anping, who had been lost in thought, snapped back to attention at her words. He gently lifted his foot and kicked her in the back without expression.

“Ah!”

Feng Yudie’s bottom slid off the roof, and without realizing it, she crashed into the chicken coop below from the third floor of the inn, causing a flurry of chicken feathers.

Chuckling softly, Ye Anping sat up, glanced at Feng Yudie, and raised an eyebrow,

“Let’s not discuss this matter.”

Then he laid back down, relaxed, and welcomed the arrival of a new day.
