The Cannon Fodder Turns His Sister Into A Soaring Phoenix C63

Chapter 63: Junior sister visits senior brother

The night has fallen. A crescent moon rose slowly from the west, and the stars scattered like pieces on a chessboard.

Guided by Xiao Yunluo, the two flew on their swords for about fifteen minutes and finally reached the entrance of the Inner Gate Medical Center.

At this moment, Doctor Zhou had already returned to his residence, leaving only a few duty medicine boys on the first floor managing the herbs and account books in the medicine storage.

Pei Lianxue didn’t have an ID card, but Xiao Yunluo could use her facial recognition card. Approaching the counter, Xiao Yunluo took a deep breath and asked softly, “Excuse me, young one, where does the young master of the Hundred Lotus Sect reside?”

“Hmm? It’s Miss Young. Wait a moment. Let me check the residence records.” The duty medicine boy quickly went behind the counter, brought a stool, and, standing on tiptoe, retrieved a ledger from the top shelf of a nearby bookcase, flipping through it for a while.

The little medicine boy grinned, “Master Ye is in the Dusty Pavilion on the fourth floor. Would you like me to take you up, Miss?”

“No need. Thank you for the offer.” Xiao Yunluo politely declined.

“In that case, please feel free, Miss. I’ll continue managing the herb inventory.” The little medicine boy bowed respectfully to Xiao Yunluo and returned to his tasks.

Xiao Yunluo had expected Pei Lianxue to be delighted upon hearing about the young master’s injury and perhaps mockingly say something like, “You’re having your taste of it now? Remember how you treated me before! Now it’s your turn!”

However, Pei Lianxue’s expression was quite the opposite. It was filled with concern. On the way up to the fourth floor, Xiao Yunluo couldn’t resist asking, “Lianxue, he’s injured. Aren’t you supposed to be happy? Considering how he treated you in the past…”

“Ah…”

“If you wish, I can have the little medicine boys here play some pranks on the young master of the Hundred Lotus Sect.”

Pei Lianxue looked puzzled, “Pranks? What kind of pranks?”

“Yes.” Xiao Yunluo nodded and leaned in, whispering, “Doctor Zhou here is quite petty. Elder Chen from Rain Cloud Hall used to play mahjong with him, keeping an eye on the cards he wanted. After a few days, Elder Chen’s tea started having two additional flavours… well… herbs that are good for health but can cause relentless vomiting and diarrhoea.”

“?”

Xiao Yunluo chuckled, continuing, “Don’t be fooled by the cute and innocent looks of these little medicine boys. They’ve learned all of Doctor Zhou’s petty tricks. Their methods of torment are worse than torture.”

“…?”

“Like intentionally causing extreme pain when changing bandages, adding intestinal herbs to the soup, replacing soothing herbs with stimulating ones… their methods are quite insidious.”

At this point, Pei Lianxue quickly interrupted, raising her voice, “No… don’t let them mess with my senior brother!!!”

“Ah! Shh…” Xiao Yunluo urgently raised her index finger to her lips, signalling her to lower her voice, “Don’t let them hear us, or we’ll both suffer.”

Pei Lianxue meekly shrank her neck, furrowing her brow and whispering, “Well, anyway… don’t mess with my senior brother!”

“But didn’t you say before…”

“…that is,” Pei Lianxue pursed her lips, glancing at Xiao Yunluo’s face, hesitated for a moment, and finally said, “I’ll explain it to you later when we go back.”

“…”

Xiao Yunluo nodded with only partial understanding.

So Lianxue had deceived her last time? Was her senior brother actually a decent person? But why lie to her…

The two ascended the stairs to the fourth floor along the edge, searching the corridor for a while until they finally found the signboard for “Chenxiang Pavilion.”

Pei Lianxue stood in front of the door, raised her hand, and gently knocked on the door.

Bang bang——

“…”

“Senior brother, Are you inside?”

“…”

Asking three times yielded no response from inside. Pei Lianxue hesitated for a moment and then gently pushed the door open.

The room was dimly lit now, illuminated only by the moonlight filtering in from the window. Next to the window, a figure wrapped in bandages glowed translucent in the moonlight, emitting a faint blue light.

Looking at the figure on the bed, Pei Lianxue didn’t recognise him at first. She quickly raised her index finger to signal “Shhhhhhhhhh” to Xiao Yunluo behind her and approached the bedside.

It was then that she realised Ye Anping was sleeping soundly. Perhaps her senior brother was truly severely injured. In the past, whenever someone or an animal approached him, her old brother would immediately wake up, whether he was sleeping or doing something else. This was the first time she saw him so defenceless.

“The injury is this severe…” Pei Lianxue murmured, extending her hand to touch Ye Anping’s face gently. She couldn’t help but bite her lip, “Senior brother…”

She stood by the bed, silently gazing at Ye Anping’s face. At this moment, they both seemed to turn into statues, motionless.

Xiao Yunluo saw Pei Lianxue’s actions and felt the depth of the relationship between her and the young master on the bed. She didn’t interrupt, just glanced at Ye Anping’s face again.

After staring for a while, she remembered—wasn’t this the former owner of the physiotherapy centre they visited before?

Was Lianxue’s senior brother usually involved in physiotherapy?

Xiao Yunluo furrowed her brows, deepening her confusion. Why didn’t Lianxue tell her when they visited the physiotherapy centre last time? She even dragged Lianxue away at that time…

At this moment…

“Miss Xi Yue… um…”

Ye Anping pouted, muttering the name as if talking in his sleep. Hearing this name, Pei Lianxue, who had been staring at his face, suddenly felt a pang of heartache. Biting her lip, she moved her hand away from her senior brother’s face.

“Senior brother, I’ll come to see you tomorrow…”

Pei Lianxue actually had the urge to kiss Ye Anping’s cheek, but with Xiao Yunluo present, she felt a bit awkward and decided not to.

“Let’s go back,” Pei Lianxue said.

“Um,” Xiao Yunluo nodded, and the two of them walked towards the door, stepping quietly. However, just as they were about to leave the room, Ye Anping on the bed suddenly called out, “Um… junior sister… you’ve grown up…”

Pei Lianxue couldn’t help but stop in her tracks, turning her head to glance behind her. The tension in her heart suddenly eased.

“Senior brother…” She smiled faintly at Ye Anping and softly replied, “Rest well…”

Afterwards, Pei Lianxue gently closed the door, finally exhaling a sigh of relief.

Xiao Yunluo couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, “Lianxue, why did you lie to me earlier? About your senior brother poisoning you and beating you until your face was bruised…”

“Ah… this…” Pei Lianxue looked a bit guilty, lowered her head, and answered, “That part is true.”

“True? But you don’t seem to hate your senior brother at all?”

“That’s also true.”

Xiao Yunluo’s head tilted in confusion.

After being bullied so much as a child, she didn’t harbour any resentment towards those who bullied her…

Was she just too kind-hearted?

No, that was not right!

Previously, Lianxue had shown no mercy to the Seven Killing Sect’s thugs who attacked them.

So…

Xiao Yunluo furrowed her brows. “Lianxue, do you have some peculiar preference?”

“?”

“I read in books that some people enjoy being kicked or beaten!” Xiao Yunluo frowned, feeling a bit embarrassed, “Although I shouldn’t pry into others’ preferences, this is not right!!! You can’t do this… it’s a sickness! It needs treatment!!”

Pei Lianxue was stunned, weakly responding, “I… I don’t like being beaten!”

“Then why don’t you hate your senior brother?”

“Well… that’s…” Pei Lianxue didn’t know how to explain. After a moment of silence, she said, “Let’s talk about it when we get back.”
